Going through the storyline is great, although that's where the expansion both shines and fails. After completing the entire storyline, I didn't find anything in SWTOR to keep me playing or paying. Grinding the same content over and over again to attain GC points is just dull, imo. And, quite frankly, I'm not sure what the purpose of GC points are, other than a lame excuse to acquire new gear. It's said that the journey is more entertaining than the conclusion, and in SWTOR's case, that's abundantly true.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
What the heck has happened to players? The level of negativity is just astounding. I'm seriously thinking of writing a book; there's no end to content.
Considering the wrap up of the current plot it's pretty much "The End". Anything else is just going to get into silliness territory. Somebody actually suggested a Yuhzhan Vong plot as a potential follow on *shudders*
I get that many people like KotET's story. IMO it was mediocre. I'd rate it 6.5 to 7.0. But for an MMO to hold my long term interest it's got to have engaging group content. Right now SW:TOR is in F- territory.
What happened to the players? They've been desperately waiting for MMO content. Instead they get a Korean style grind and sod all for groups. Uprisings simply don't have enough depth to hold folks' attention.
In truth I was commenting on his/her post about "another paid review". Not the people's reaction to the content.
It's always "ok" to dislike something, that should go without saying. But there seems to be this knee jerk bit reaction where people will just post drive by quips of negativity without any real thought.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
The funniest thing here is that people actually believe this was not a paid for article.
Everything official here can be viewed as such. Because they live off it. External ads(meaning those ads that advertise their merchandise here), paid ads(meaning when someone literally pays you to write an article or some such) etc etc is their living.
Yes I'm not a idiot I understand, and I think I was pretty clear, they were paid, wait I will repeat it one more time for you, THEY WERE PAID FOR THIS REVIEW.
SWTOR has never been a mMorpg, it's been a SmoRPG (solo massively online...) and yet its best-in-class solo content--the class story arcs--has EA-$hat-covered except for perhaps two summers?
Several of the class arcs are nothing short of divinely inspired (a different few based on the player), while the subsequent content has been a huge disappointment qualitatively and quantitatively.
As for the integrity of this particular review. Critic reviews have become unashamedly biased lately. Professional reviews and a lot of "competitive" awards, particularly for AAA publishers, are way higher than usual, while user reviews/ratings have plummeted. As some might recall, this is a pattern seen in collapsing markets/industries.
All I can say: SWTOR does have best-in-class story rpg elements, and that should be celebrated in a septic tank of "mmorpg" competitors. In the mean time, take note of current game publishers, execs, design leads, and game reviewers, and be ready to blacklist them once the video game market reemerges from the ashes (I hope (and yeah, in the Nietzsche way as well)).
