Why don't we have a Star Wars ARPG for PC/console in the style of Diablo or Grim Dawn? Another game i'd like to see would be an FPS Star Wars game that played like L4D/Payday where players took on the role of rebel soldiers completing objectives taking on waves of Stormtroopers or vice versa. We just saw Rogue One last night so now i'm on a Star Wars kick and unfortunately SWtOR and Battlefront just don't scratch that Star Wars itch for me.
I agree that SW ARPG would be nice, but there are other franchises where it'd be better-Warhammer Fantasy in particular.
Both good ideas, I'd also add Star Trek to that list too. The thing about Star Wars and Star Trek as ARPG's is that there could be planet side and space missions though where players could progress their characters and their ships. I guess Warhammer could do that if you went the space marine/ork route.

And as far as ST goes, maybe I'm a purist, but it should remain in the "experimental" / "philosophical" domain. Maybe books, visual novels and BW / Obsidian style games. Because I don't understand how an ARPG, let alone Hack and Slash has anything to do with ST.
That is essentially my thought on Star Wars as well. The deepness of the setting would just be better represented in a CRPG. Where story and role-play come first, action would be secondary.

Star Wars is one of the most wasted IP's in the history of IP's. There's a ridiculous amount of stuff that can and should be done with the setting that didn't materialize.
I was thinking this back when Diablo came out with a chain lightning mage. Also why no Star Wars MOBA?
I think a Star Wars MOBA would do really well too if done right, being able to be all your favorite iconic Star Wars characters in a genre like that could be a blast for a lot of people, i'm not really in to MOBA's though but I agree with you.
They did one. It was called Star Wars: Uprising. It closed in like 6 months, lol. Probably because it was only "meh" and it was exclusive to mobile. Oh! And it was produced by Kabam who are pretty good at the heavy monitization thing. Would it have survived on PC? Who knows? Either way, it was a pc game launched on mobile only, and was mostly forgettable.
On the positive side, there is a Star Wars sandbox open world RPG in the works by Jade Raymond and Amy Hennig. Sooooooo? Yay? Initiate hype train?

Yea I know I can see a star wars skinned Law and Order being done set before Phantom Mentace or During the Clone Wars era but they don't want to do that. They can go explore the lore of Mandalore yet they don't want to do that they want to recycle the same old style story which is clearly outdated and I think SW 4-6 could be retold so it can be up to date with modern storytelling. I wouldn't be suprised if george lucas was a little irritated that disney wanted to recycle old styles of storytelling instead of introducing a complex style of storytelling.
TV shows, movies, books have all evolved over the years but disney doesn't want star wars to evolve, they don't want something different they want something that is familiar to the fans but some SW fans like me get burned out of the same old but they decide its a safer bet to do something that is familiar.
The acronym MMORPG use to mean Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.
But the acronym MMMORPG now currently means Microscopic Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. Kappa.

Yeah, I tried Star Wars Uprising but didn't like it. I'm hoping the Visceral Star Wars game will be good.
There are only 2 SW game series that are even worth talking about, Dark Forces(Jedi Knight) and X-Wing. Dark Forces had the FPS type style and X-Wing had your dog-fights. Really wish they'd bring them back w/ updated graphics and stories that are "canon" again.
I'd like to see a proper open world Star Wars RPG first.
ARPG / CRPG would still be fun but I'd rather not play hack'n'slash or an isometric game. Basically, let Bethesda make a Star Wars game (but make sure bugs are fixed first!)
Same with Warhammer / 40k - any RPG for those universes would be great, but especially open world!

I am 1000% positive it work, make lots of money but i personally don't want to see another arpg for the rest of my life. They could build a SW arpg in mere months, the design of such genre right now is super cheap and just flat out shallow.
ARPG's could be really good if somebody realized that mutli killing SPAM does not NEED to be a main aspect of the genre. So yeah if some developer was SERIOUS about the genre and not just making another clone to sell it based on the SW ip,then yeah it could be a good fun genre.

I like to play an Assassin's Creed type game being a Jedi. Formula worked so well in Shadow of Mordor. Add the force to the combat and there'll be tons of possibilities.
