They said here will be public servers. Are these for 50-100 players or can thousands play together ?
They haven't stated any concrete numbers yet, but you can look to similar games such as Rust and Ark for an idea. I would guess that concurrent player numbers won't exceed 100.
They stated that the amount of players is going to be 70 for Official servers. During EA and Post-EA they may increase that number as they add more Biomes.
I wish companies would stop with the small servers and do large ones with thousands. Small servers are a pain, get reset, have bad communities, and are never monitored, and if they are have abusive admins.
Whats wrong with real MMORPG style games with thousands playing on a few servers, instead of thousads of small servers that are always empty?
Ark was fun, servers suck, community sucks. Rust was fun, servers suck, community sucks. shall I go on?

With only 70 people per server I question how big a world these survival games actually provide.
Seems like the equivalent of a large island would be sufficient.

How about your own server can't you have one with a few friends or does Ark and Rust and this game not allow that ? I have been curious having always not trusted my fellow humans to treat me well in a FFA community I always suspect the extreme will ruin things for me.

I cannot answer for Rust, but with Ark you have the ability to host your own private server.

Seeing as we will not have the full map at EA launch and the very nature of survival games, that just sounds like a nightmare.
I also doubt we will see "Official NA-PVP - Primitive Exile 732 0/70" etc but who knows at the moment.

That has nothing to do with server capacity and is more related to the type of servers you're connecting to, this is just the nature of having so much freedom and the ability to allow anyone to create their own server, there's plenty of great servers managed by amazing people but they're also surrounded by many bad servers that are severely mismanaged.
At least you have the freedom to search around and find a server you're comfortable with, you just have to put a tiny bit of effort into doing so.

Well, the easy fix is for you to have a server. Problem solved.
As far as "wishing more would follow suit". They have. There are a LOT of mmo's.
My guess is that part of the reason for smaller servers is that communities for large servers don't really work well.
I would rather play with a small community of good people than thousands upon thousands of asses.

There's a finite amount of land and content, if there was thousands of players in each server more than 3/4 of them wouldn't be able to do jack shit.
