Lol complete account closure if you post a rogue 1 spoiler. Yeah CIG aren't abusing that TOS, not at all.
Sounds like the idiot got what he deserved after being warned.
He got what he deserved? He asked for a refund and got it? Yeah they sure showed him! Lol
Yep he got his money back, they got rid of yet another toxic asshole. Everyone won this one.
You think this guy was a toxic asshole? Damn you must live a sheltered life
The only thing more moronic than banning someone from a game, not just the forums but a game for something this childish, is being moronic enough to get yourself banned from a game for such childish behavior.
They should have just banned the moderator from there for threatening to ban peoples game accounts just for talking about a movie that is what really upset me and why I have lost all faith in the development of this game.
How hard is it to make a different discord channel, or just remove someone from a discord, or temp mute for talking about something or breaking a rule if they didn't see it.
If something like a not very good at their job forum moderator is enough to shake your faith in this game then it wasn't very strong to begin with. That makes about as much sense as hating an entire business because the parking attendant was an asshole.
As to the dumbass who got himself banned. No pity at all. If he can't be bothered to act like an adult they have every right to give him his money back and tell him to fuck off. Businesses do this all the time.
Yes but you see they aren't just a forum moderator if I read it right, or a Discord Moderator, they had access to ban peoples accounts who backed with real money just for breaking a simple rule or talking about a movie with friends or something and I think that is pretty dumb...
Also he got banned or questioned just because he was talking about Star Wars???
I mean honestly I hear of people getting banned for being toxic saying hurtful stuff to others but for talking about a movie when (Other people have the right to mute you is flat out stupid especially to backers.)
Yes I think he had the right to request and get a full refund for the game, or for them to actually apologize and get rid of the mod who actually threaten to ban the account for no reason.
They should apologize for the misunderstanding and give him a free ship.

He was never banned from the discord. He questioned the stupidity of the rule and the mod saying it came from the top and then wanted a refund after the stupidity of it all.
They never treated him like an adult in the first place since this was the evocati discord, you know the elite testers who need to prove themselves to get an invite, and you would think everyone there wouldn't risk their accounts over a stupid rogue 1 movie spoiler. But leave it to CIG to stick their foot in their mouth again and drum up some negative press.

It doesn't matter who he was, or what group he's a part of. He doesn't make the rules, they do. Acting like a self righteous teenage rebel (which is exactly what he was doing) deserves no treatment but the door being slammed behind him.

Where in the terms of service of this does it say a person isn't allowed to talk about Star Wars?
Although there is likely a certain part about terminating an account as of all services, but even the (Rules OF Conduct was not broken.) The moderator was a total jerk just because they are a big Star Wars fan...
Also threatening the ban again from the game rather than just kicking out of a discord channel, or making another channel where people can go talk about Star Wars lol and one without talk for Star Wars was dumb, instead they choose to create a negative impact for the game.
Also technically the (Terms OF Service) of this site doesn't apply to discord because (Discord) is not owned by RSI) But rather where anyone can go moderate a private channel doesn't give them ownership of the group. But carrying over a dispute from discord, and making it a big deal is the issue.
Which is exactly what he did. Doesn't mean he can't say why he decided to leave to highlight the idiocy of the situation. (NB I think both parties acted in a ridiculous manner).
I see a few people saying how it was stupid that this rule broke his faith in the game, saying it as though it's a binary thing. Obviously that's not the case, there were a number of things that led up to this decision and this was the culmination of it all.
Well if he got his money back without having to talk to his attorney general I would say he is the big winner here.
But why doesnt anyone notice that no news about this game is ever fully positive? "Haters'' aside. everything they release as 'news' always comes with a caveat or baggage or is bad news outright.
They should apologize for the misunderstanding and give him a free ship.
This is the thing. From what it is there he DID apologize on his side. But the other guy decided to continue the little show of his; he picked a fight he couldn't win. what backfired on him with a full refund he didn't want.
Within abuse of power, direct confrontation will per norm backfire on you.
Why all this big deal? This desperate need to continuously attack this game and its company requires making such a storm out of anything... nitpicking much? xD

This is not about attacking the game. It must be quite tiring to see every non-postive action as an attack.
If another company was monitoring people's twiiter accounts or some other unofficial form of communication and issuing game bans based on arbitrary rules, people would post about it, when this has happened with other games people post about it. Just because we are tallking about CIG and Star Citizen doesn't mean it shouldn't get a pass because you don't think it's worth talking about. If you find this stuff upsetting or something then simply avoid the topic.

LOL; It's not you or me who decides if this gets a pass or not. It's they who make their terms and their rules, if you're there you just have to accept it and deal with it. If you attempt to pull off something like that against a moderator here, you darn right you'll end up on the forum's ban list. We're simply not entitled to that, especially peeps on this forum who are not even backers that are so triggered about it. Entitlement on its finest. xD
I'm not finding this upsetting, this is just stupid, I have been through something like this before on other game, all I did was contact the game support about one abuse of power of one of their staff, they replied me, dealt with my issue and apologized. All done formally, but this case, however, is just cheap ass drama.
The "doesn't mean it should get a pass" is just... I just had a Social Justice Warriors flashback. O.o

Pissing off the moderators or breaking the forum rules will get you a warning or a ban from the forums. What would get people posting is if you break a rule on this forum and you get banned from playing (insert favourite game). This is what people are talking about.
If you post a rogue 1 on their discord when they ask you not to then it would be normal to mute or ban you from the discord not ban you from the entire game. You are saying you are fine with them imposing any arbritary rules they want on channels that aren't even official and they can take any action against your game account.
You are saying you are fine with them imposing any arbritary rules they want on channels that aren't even official and they can take any action against your game account.
I personally do not agree that they by one offense as that should go as far as block one game account. A kick from the Evocati group? Sure. A community ban? Why not... But that one is too far.
But again, that is mine and your opinion because it's their community, their terms, their rules! We don't get to nitpick wich rules we find acceptable or not.
Here's what you do when you see something as one abuse of power:
Formally contact the game's support reporting what you consider one abuse of power from one of their employees part.
They will have to respond to you in a formal matter as well. Within that response, they will have to or justify the staff's action, or apologize / solve your issue.
The same way if you find one behavior from a mod here abuse of power, you can't publicly confront that mod about what he did, but you can contact one admin and explain the situation. You do not publicly confront one staff like that, It's that simple.
If the Roberts and CIG were really smart they would offer anyone who is not happy with the way things are progressing a refund on the ships they purchased and then repost those ships for sale for more money.

That was meant to be "shouldn't get a pass", not "should get a pass". Although you seem to be missing the point, what I'm referring to with this comment is where you make it clear that you feel we shouldn't even be talking about this, hence the 'you don't get to decide if we can or can't talk about it'.

Anyway back to the reply. It doesn't matter if they make the rules or not. If those rules are idiotic, unreasonable abuses of their power then they deserve to be called out. Will admitted as much in the correspondance. Otherwise you might want to take a minute and think carefully about everything you are condoning if you honestly believe that "what we say goes" is a fair and just modus operandi. That's opening stuff up for all sorts of abuse.
If you posted rogue one spoilers here (on mmorpg's official forum) explicitly against the wishes of a moderator, you would at worse lose access to a free account. What we are talking about is an unofficial chat channel where you would lose access to a paid account which could be for as much as a few thousand dollars. There is no comparison to be made at all. Unfortunately your views on these matters is so clouded that you you simply lash out at anything you percieve as negative, even when it's not about being negative. My belief is that you try to use the words like negativity and drama, triggered and entitlement as a means to try and shut people down.
Let's be honest, the only person acting triggered and entitled here is yourself. You're triggered by what you view as "drama" and you're acting entitled because you want people to stop talking about things you don't agree with.
rpmcmurphy said: ...hence the 'you don't get to decide if we can or can't talk about it'.
I don't get to decide what you can talk about or not lol. But I darn get to have my own opinion on how silly are some people on this discussion being, some obsessively trying to dramatize a situation as much as possible, "storm a tea-cup" so they say.
That is my opinion and you just have to deal with it, as you're free to have yours and think whatever you want of what I say. xD You're bothered about it? Not my problem, I'm just finding this funny actually.
And I say on previous post, the reasonable way to solve this type of things that can be abuse of power, is not with a public confrontation towards the staff being abusive.
a multi million Dollar company should not make rules on-the-go up like this, the Moderator with this silly "Rogue One Rule (ROR)" could have easily pissed of a whale with like $20k+ in the pot.
Is a silly Spoiler worth that much? This is money that's gone from development I really don't know how anyone can be OK with it in a situation where a Mute/Ignore/Temp Discord Ban would be sufficient.
If I see a Mod behaving like this in my company I would know in which corner I need to set the ban hammer.

Thing is these people are not Mods, the private discord of the evocati is not managed by the community moderators of SC, yet by direct employees of CIG, mostly the QA peeps, LiveOps, Player Support and such.
This actually happened completely outside the sphere of the community moderation, that simply can't do that. Even the permabans are not bans from the game. What makes this situation fall on the sphere of abuse of power.
And that is why I said he should have taken the path of report situation formally via support to make them have one formal and official stand on it.

Which makes that worse ... "Hi Boss I made up a spoiler rule and we've lost 20k in funding cause of that so far, you proud of me?"
Exactly, if he took the formal approach to it, they would most likely assume the flaw and apologize (what they later did), or stand by the staff and defend his behavior (what would be unlikely due the official nature of a company's response on support).
That's why I find this so silly because he could have gotten is way easily enough, but publicly confronted that staff instead and baited further:
Perhaps we can get the UN to pass a resolution condemning CIG for the "widespread and flagrant abuse of free speech, consumer rights, human rights, ect." stemming from this terrible incident of blatant fascism...
