Best MMO gaming keyboard??

darnapkindarnapkin Member UncommonPosts: 146
Looking into a great mmo keyboard? I just put my old school steelseries merc stealth on ebay so I'm looking for something new.

I'm looking at the Logitech G910 right now, but I'd like to have something close to it. I guess Razer might have something. I just like when companies compete and I like to give me dollar to the one that does the best.

capitalism for the win!

so what do you suggest?

I use Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2014 Elite Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. So far no issues with it and had it 2 years. Fairly cheap on Amazon and other places.

I have the razer black widow. Wouldnt really recomend it. Not for the price anyways.
Logitech has been making some decent stuff just of late. I'd be tempted to try them out.
A few years ago i went with the razer naga mouse, and just over a year later my middle mouse button started acting up, then a few months after that i had problems with the scroll wheel. For the price you pay for Razer products i expected much better build quality than what i got.

Steelseries Merc....flat out the best MMO keyboard you can buy. Would still be using mine if I hadn't switched to a laptop due to returning to school. I still have it though, waiting for a future desktop. It's incredible.

Yeah you just put the best one ever made on eBay.

I know, I love my merc stealth, I really do, but I got to sadly get use to a "normal" gaming keyboard,  my chances of getting another merc is almost none, so I might as well get use to it now. Feel free to look at my posting on ebay :) its in pretty good shape

Tried the Logitech G19 recently and was not happy. The keys respond halfway through your press, so I was never quite sure if I pressed the button or not.  Definitely not a great property for gaming.

Generally, people have always praised Cherry MX switches. They have been consistently reviewed as the premier approach to keyboards. Both Corsair and Logitech make decent reliable keyboards that use Cherry MX (though not all their products do). The G19 doesn't have Cherry MX for example. The switches are precise and should last forever, but are also very loud. Something to consider. I often play at night, so noise is part of my purchasing equation. Mechanical keyboards can be very "clicky".

Also tried a Razer keyboard. They have their own mechanical switches, competing with Cherry. The keyboard seemed very similar in terms of overall feel. I could not tell the difference between Razer and Corsair.

You will also need to decide on displays and macro keys. Personally, I've never found them useful. I rarely ever look at displays on a keyboard. Similarly, I bind most keys to letters around WASD, eliminating any need for dedicated macro keys. If that is your case as well, going for the main gaming products is the safest bet. The products with excessive macro keys and displays can be finicky.

I had a G19 for a while. It was ok, but definitely not worth the money. Very little use for the LCD screen, which was pretty much the only draw to the thing. I did use the macro keys on occasion. But it did last for a good long while (in fact, my son still uses it)

I have a G710 now, I love it. It's holding up well too.

That being said, I agree with DMKano - it's highly subjective, and if you like it, then it's a good one.

They both use mechanical switches but I guess logitech and razer have both have strong points. Logitech G910 claim to have 25% faster actuation response due to it's 1.5 mm contact point distance. However with Razer they claim that their keyboard was engineered for durability and with it's gold plated contact points you will never miss any key stroke. Putting aside lights, macro commands and fancy LCD screen on keyboard, this is the thing you should consider in choosing your keyboard.

I really like how Corsair designed their keyboards. You will be paying a premium for it. They only have a couple options so It's up to you to decide how many keys you need. The good thing about their design is the ease to clean it. The key caps come off easily and It's a nice flat surface. They also have a premium feel with aluminum and braided cables.
At first I thought I would want a cherry brown so I dont mistype, but the cherry reds work very well.

I actually prefer using an ultra-basic keyboard (the nuke proof, $11 Lite-On SK-1788 keyboard), paired with a Fang programmable gamepad (these used to sell for around $35). What I really value on the Fang are the big, easy to find movement keys, and of course, the ability to macro every single button in an advanced manner if desired.

Too bad the Fang isn't being made anymore. And Ideazon seems to now only make console type controllers. But perhaps there are other PC "big movement key" type controllers still available out there somewhere (I really do hate WASD)? I hope so. Because I'm going to have to replace my controller setup sooner or later, as well.

The Logitech G910 is a real gaming keyboard and I see many pros using it. But this is too expensive for me, I am looking for a budget gaming keyboard. then that's what I found.

I still have a Fang in it's original box.  One of the best dedicated MMO keybpads I ever used.  I now use the Logitech G13, which I received for Christmas a couple of years ago.  Don't think Logitech makes the G13 anymore, but there are alternatives.  Best way to go for MMO gamins in my experience.

For me, i prefer comfort and ease of use, so an ergonomic keyboard is an absolute requirement.
