yeah this was the first year in...well..forever seems like..where I did not have an MMO I played with SOME level of commitment. Nothing. Nada. I only even tried a few from that list and was immediately turned off by every one of them. NOW....that being said...the 'sandbox survival' genre has more or less filled the spot where a 'traditional' MMO would be. I can only hope 2017 is better. I know it will be actually..with Crowfall and Conan coming online....
Voted for BDO as it's really the only MMO on the list.
Nah man there are plenty of MMO's there. BDO is the only mmorpg.
We're not doing ourselves any favors by dropping the RPG from mmo...
No wonder we're getting what we're getting.
I didn't research them, so you could be correct if any of those other titles provide for a single persistent world which can support at least 500 players at a time in it.
It's a standard this site established back in 2004 or so for the term massively multiplayer and I still discern with it.
Applied not only to MMORPGs which were dominant at the time but also MMOFPS games such as Planetside 1.

Tough choices, I voted for The Division. The story part of it, aka leveling portion, is actually pretty good, a little cliche, but good. I'd say the biggest mistake they made with the Division is not expanding upon the story with each DLC.
Sad when BDO is the clear winner though. Really couldn't stand it.
I liked Black Desert and Blade & Soul a lot. I give the edge to BDO because while B&S had some really good content and I loved the class designs, there just wasn't enough and you ended up doing the same few daily quests over and over until you hated the game. BDO has a much more open design that keeps you from burning out.
Want to grind mobs for XP and money? Want to hunt bosses for top level gear? Do quests for CP? Explore for Energy XP? Fish? Craft? Tame horses? There's so much to do that you can keep playing even if you're tired of one part of the game.
BnS is a good game. It went mega-P2W though, and never bothered to deal with a bot scourge in Arenas (the shining point of the game). Voted BDO because it's also a good game and didn't go quite as hard P2W, and they did actually bother to handle the hacking issue the game had for a bit there. Nice times we got here.

+1 for "None of the Above", it really was quite a poor year for new MMOs... maybe they should have included some 'Most Improved' and / or 'Continue to be Great' MMOs, as previously released MMOs have had a pretty good year in terms of new content and general gameplay improvements. In either case 2017/18 should see some much better lists.
Hmm, that's a sad list, imo. I played BDO, AdventureQuest 3D, and Riders of Icarus. None are worthy of my vote. Can't say anything about the others, except that none of them struck my interest enough to give them a try.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
And yes, 2017 is hopefully better than 2016 was for MMOs.
It's a shame 51% of people strongly disagree with you.
Maybe you should refrain making such a bold statement when you are so out of touch with reality.
Except their statement isn't really that bold. Have you read much of the commentary to go with those votes?
A number of people have noted that they only picked BDO 'cause it's the least underwhelming title in a list of them. Could just as well say it's a vote for "least crappy" or "most tolerable" MMO of 2016.
I'm not sure "It Sucked The Least" is an accolade I'd be too proud of lol.
Yeah, this poll missed the mark. Without a "none of the above" option, many folks are having to vote for BDO or something else. I know that would have been my top choice easily.
Just don't vote if you don't like any of the games, folks. These polls are about celebrating the good, even in a crappy year. So if you can't see that, just don't vote.

They really should wipe these reults and redo it with a ....None of the Above option
Would change the results signifigantly , until then borked and worthless poll
They stopped including "none of the above" as an option as year after year it was taking the top slot in most every poll.
Yes its brilliant , lets remove peoples choice because we dont like the result ... What country we in ... ?
We're not removing choice. We're consciously deciding not to feed into the negativity that exists around these parts.
FWIW, I voted BDO.
You did remove a choice , you removed the choice for people, to voice there opinion that dont like any of the options , So that is viewed as negativity.... If others dont like what you like it viewed as negativity now ...

Indeed. If someone doesn't agree with any listed they can mention what MMO they thought the best was in this post.
But stating no mmo released in 2016 should win is ludicrous.

So you are ignoring the truth?
You are part of the problem if you contribute to mediocrity.
I rated BDO and 8.6 and I play it regularly to this day. So, I don't consider it mediocrity. It's only truth to you and those who can't see the forest for the trees. This genre isn't doing hot because it doesn't have the AAA money right now, but that doesn't mean there aren't great games to be played from past and recent years.
I'm sorry you think otherwise, but your opinion alone does not give you carte blanche to say what's right or wrong.

the thread is called ... The Players CHOICE Awards ..... My CHOICE would be none of these games are worthy of that recognition , To remove Choice .. Kinda fucks up the idea of Players CHOICE Awards .. doesnt it..
