Bit of a long post I know, basically its about what kind of setting is fallen earth and what kind of atmosphere etc we want/expect/gonna get.
Tried to find the discussion on here where people were talking about, clonings place in post apocolyptic, mutants etc, but couldnt find it so thought i'd make a new thread.
Are post-apocolyptic and cyberpunk futuristic two different things? Can they be spliced and mixed effectively and keep y'all happy?
it boggled my brain as to how you could realistically have player death and ressurection realistically in wastelands after the apocolypse.

The risk of dying in Fallen Earth is quite real, especially given its dangerous, post-apocalyptic setting. James Hettinger, the CEO of Icarus Studios explains, On death, players can be resuscitated by one of their squad members or passers by using medical devices. In the event there is no one around, the player will be presumed dead and a clone will appear at a nearby replication chamber. There will be a modest experience debt that the players will have to work off.

So there are clones. Replication Chambers infact.
My hope is that these will be in 'advanced sectors', where people have built up or whatever.
But then what boggles me, is how can you have clone technology but not vehicle technology?

"Characters will be able to unlock new technologies as they progress through the game and discover new things. Consequently, the technology for a buggy car may not even be available for six months after the games launch until players discover the skills needed to create a buggy."

Also concerning mutations.
"To customize your character, youll be able to modify your characters genetic makeup using vials of recombinant DNA. You can take DNA to a gene splicing facility (the architecture is similar to the spaceports found in Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided), along with other needed scientific tools, and mutate your genetic code for enhancement. Step in, a few lasers and lights, and youre done. Genetic modifications can range from cat eyes granting you improved night vision to stronger legs so you can jump higher."
I must've blocked out this article because it is somewhat disheartening :P
As a player of star wars galaxies, i've viewed the cloning facilitys and such as out of character because they ruin the feel of the place, the atmosphere to me.
With cloning there is no fear of death for your character personally.
Anyways, Im just wondering what is thinking we are going to see?
All the screenshots I have seen look like gritty, grotty, low-tech or no-tech outposts. I think I recall one that looked like the inside of a facility or something.
Is it possible for such high-tech things as cloning and gene-splicing to exist without ruining your feel, your vibe that you are rebuilding after an apocolypse...
I mean, i feel really bad making this post, like im doubting my father or something, im hopful it will work out, and maybe this is just a case of paranoia gone wrong because im clinging onto what little information we have and basing the entire game on it
You guys get what I mean dont you?
In my head I was picturing deserts, wastes, outposts, fallout, madmax etc. and we have seen screenies of places like that.
I thought that any genetic mutation would probably be from radiation or evolution or something and death, well, i had hoped it wouldnt be cloning but what alternatives are there?
Hopfully people will all carry resus kits so cloning isnt needed or something.
I feel like if there is clones, cloning, genetic splicing of DNA, it just feels like its futuristic sci-fi, not so post-apocolyptic, or its post-apocolyptic, but not that soon after, its in the future of the rebuilding and technology has been rediscovered, doesnt that just make it cyberpunk? But what's the difference?
my brain just melted so im gonna stop typing... again I Feel really sucky writing this, Im still more excited about fallen earth than i have been about any game, ever, period. Im sure if I emailed them they'd probably try and answer me, I've emailed them before with concerns and they were *Absolutely* *Quality* about my email, best response i've ever had.
For that alone I will buy the game and subscribe just to say thank you and show I appreciate their efforts.
But yeh... what do you guys think? What are you expecting it to be like etc?
Im gonna go read the website for the millionth time and see if i can get a feel for the atmos again. I know we only just had a newsletter but I feel like I need a serious fix of information, im checking these forums everyday and googling fallen earth, lol, just NEED A FIX!!!!!
still confident anyway, im usually able to block out stuff i dont like too much and prevent it affecting the game for me, maybe ill just move into the desert and be a hermti and deny the existence of all this technology in the city.
d00d : "Hello"
me: "Hello.. how are you"
d00d: "Not too good, just had to clone, bandits got me lol"
Me: "Clone!? What'sa clone!?!? GET OUTTA HERE YOU!!"
*Fires buckshot at the man from his porch and the man turns to stone and the buckshot repels off*
d00d: "Rofl, i was gen3tcly spliced d00d, u sux"
Me: "aw hell...."

found some screenies i never seen before, including one which is either the genetic splicer or the cloning. i think its the genetic splicer tho. looks very gritty, not massively high-tech or anything. Had you guys seen these before? Got em from mmhell.com
I've seen these before (except the last one in the graveyard). The thing I remember them saying is that there is a major outpost build around the Hoover Dam, which is what I'd guess that would be. Think if there was only 1 place where you could do all that high-tech stuff (cloning and recombing and the like).
If you died far away and had to clone there it would be a total pain in the A$$ to get back to where you were. That would be a huge reason to fear dying. Remember, its over 7000 square miles, you'd be in big trouble if you were on the far side of the map when it happened. Also, if newer players died, they'd be close by and wouldn't have to worry about cloning as much. The only problem you have with everyone cloning in one area is that it will cause huge lag.
And you're right, it does look gritty and not too high tech.
Waiting For: something good
Games Tried: SWTOR, Star Trek Online, EQ, EQ2, Earth and Beyond, Planetside, Lineage 2, Eve Online, WoW, City of Heroes, City of Villians, Auto Assault, Fallen Earth
Star Wars: Galaxies - Ibra Olasi (Valcyn Server) [Dead, screw you SOE]
that would be cool what you say but it says "Nearby replication chamber"
im thinking it'll be like Star Wars galaxies where big towns have them. So you can save yourself inconveniance by paying for replication, at a 'price', problem was in star wars it cost 1000 credits, and most people are millionaires! So I hope that cloning costs quite a bit of currency in this.
I just hope anyone roleplaying will ignore how many times they die and not introduce themselves as 'the 21st clone of bob, son of ron'
Now im even more desperate to get into Beta
