Thanks. Someone mentioned above how with each day we don't play the game it becomes that much better.
They do have their shit together, that is why the community manager for a huge incoming MMORPG spends her time AT A FORUM WHICH DOES NOT PAY NOR EMPLOY HER. She could avoid these forums as if they were the plague and I wouldn't think too much less of him (her? can we get this sorted out :-0 ).
Anyway, I can wait.

Ok guys not to be the heart breaker for everyone here, but an eye opener. I know web design and I know contests like these (only 180 people) are not hard to do and set up and it doesn't take more than 15-30 minutes out of your day. The only reason it would truely take this long is if KFR felt the game wasn't ready for public opinion and obviously some of us are going to give the public our opinion and KFR is taking the precautionary measures to make sure that we have a cozy position when we get in. He doesn't want to screw up his game's reputation and I understand that. We were after all, just a publicity stunt. "Come win beta accounts!" Oooo this game gets hyped up, now that we got all these guys who don't care about testing thinking they won something, we'll let them hang tight until we're about ready to do an open beta (a stage in the game development where the game is playable and fun and people will spread the word about it's legacy). KFR's a really smart guy (just read his interviews on stratics). He knows what he's doing, and he's not going to let that slip up or show because a bunch of us want in to "play".
Even if 90% of us are going to help test, there's still that 10% that can spread like wild fire and turn hundreds of people off and destroy the delicate fibers of hype.
They're keeping us content by replying here until the next version is ready, fun, and playable. Simple as that.
We're right where they want us. Not going aorund giving the game a bad rep because of how (rediculously long) it's taken them, and we're not in the game finding out it's still in alpha but too ignorant to realize what alpha means and going and giving them a bad name, either.
I respect their intelligence but at the same time despise them for not being suave enough about it so that i don't catch on
You have a point, but I doubt RB would do something like that. My impression is that they intended the end of the contest to go together with the begining of the full commercial test. Obviousily this has been delayed because of database errors, which KFR admitted.
Now why would they have database errors at this stage? New features probably. They have always had a very active forum role, reading and occasionally replying to forum suggestions. They even started a few discussions to let the community explore a concept.
Not sure if that is the case, but I certainly hope so.
Why would RB build up awareness if they knew their game wasn't ready? They have always been very cautious with building awareness. They're not out to build a hype. Why would they suddenly decide to change this policy, for no apparant reason?
Maybe all the stress from making the game finally made them snap and now they are all a bunch of raving loonies. I think we can expect them to randomly change the the player graphics in the game to monkeys and have the game name changed. I think thinking something along the lines of OBTG. Which stands for of course "OMG buy this game."
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

Your post assumes 2 things...
1. Some or all of the 180 testers are n00b enough to make judgments about the game while it is still in Beta.
2. Some or all of the 180 testers will completley ignore the NDA and tell others of their unwaranted opinions of the game's current progression.
I would like to make it clear I am neither 1 nor 2 and I hope at least 99% of everyone else is too.
Therefore the state of the game is basically irrelevant if RB feels we are mature and trustworthy enough to participate in this BETA TEST. Rather than n00B enough to act like typical free to play fools and spend 5 minutes in the test only to come back here and post.

Nice to know you're mature/intelligent enough to treat my concerns and opinions with respect.
It's pretty obvious that we are a risk to the publicity of RB (not only that, but a burden to the management team if even just one of us becomes an issue with the NDA). It takes time out of your precious development cycles, so I respected that when I was saying it.
KFR is a very brilliant man, I give him that and I understand that he knows all what I said before I even said it (about the burdenous children thing) and probably most definately had it in his mind when he's been waiting to give us our keys. I'd be pretty amazed if we got our info anytime before they start allow mass people in anyway.
It's unlogical to let a bunch of people you can't personally monitor and choose in. Some may seem mature and great people to let in but you could also be letting in a big group of children into the test.
I guess you're not brave enough to actually comment on my statement.
Its also unlogical to have a massive promotion on a site like MMO and cause all the grief that will no doubt ensue if they dont let us in. They would have been far better of doing nothing. I dont think they are that silly..... do you ?

My point wasn't that we won't be let in. My arguement was that this was all a publicity stunt and they didn't actually plan on letting us in any sooner really than the mass majority of people (maybe a week before open test they'll let us in or something).
That's fine, they don't want us to be playing an unplayable game... but personally I was looking foreward to helping test, I wanted to put a hand in on development... but once a game gets to a certain unmoldable stage input means less and less since it'd take too long to change things... I just want to actually get in a beta when it's still in it's early stages. I haven't gotten to be in one yet All the beta's I've been in have been open testing.
Well thats actually exactly how I feel... although I have been in quite a few closed Betas...
If its any consolation they are always an exercise in frustration... which of course is the entire point..
I agree with you that not everyone who won could be trusted not to abuse the priviledge... I guess I assumed they had thought this through before now... I guess as you point out.... they had lol...

I apologize for trying to lighten the mood with a little joke. I will no longer try to be funny and will instead answer all questions with strait answers that sound like they are copied and pasted from a, Dev Answer Output machine.
The point is, youre making assumptions about the integrity of the team. The assumption that KFR or anyone else on the development team purposefully ran this contest just for the sake of getting hype on this sight is quite insulting. Youre basically calling us liars as both KFR and I have been on here to let people know that hes doing what he can to solve the problem. Weve explained that an issue came up, an issue that obviously didnt allow him to get people in when he expected. Weve had a contest with Jolt were we did the same thing we did here. Had people answer questions, and a few were given beta spots, that one went off without a hitch.
Im sorry you dont believe us, and its your right to think what you will. Ill have you know that since this happened, KFR has not been to the RV boards more than once (posted those new screenies) which is very very unusual and only happens when hes extremely busy, which has only happened a few times since Ive been a member of the boards (since Feb 02).
You guys will get the information to join the team just as soon as humanly possible. And I assure you, ideas from the GOCaT team and the community are still be implemented. And as far as us not wanting to let people in who haven't signed an NDA, KFR has stated that many testers have been added that did not sign NDA's. The beginning of commercial testing (first week of may) brought in 2500 people that didn't sign the NDA. So that's not the case here. Sure we've had a few disobey and leak information, but that's not a problem as they are "uninvited" to the test shortly thereafter.
Alright this needs to stop everyone. Stop Insulting or Pestering Kanoth or KFR or any other dev of RV.
Stop looking at this forum at this posted topic. Posting insults doesnt make things come faster. YES I know we all are waiting for the accounts but stop for now Play something else keep your mind busy. I Suggest Gunz or UO. Right now the Gocatt team is busy so lets leave it at that.
