While you all argue over who first came up with the idea of capture, I'm still trying to figure out how in the frog was it able to fly away with all 50 ropes still attached.
Let's just say it's all magic...
They obviously forgot to edit out that bit. Things are a bit rough, but there's still 2 weeks before the start of Early Access. Unless they delay again.
EA is in 2 weeks? Where did you get that from? All I have seen since the first delay is that it will be some time in 2017.
I really don't like gimmicks,we kill Dragons,we don't fly them.I personally feel flying mounts are over the top, don't want them in my game.Every single player will have to have a dragon mount and every single player will be flying them,we already have a game like that or two and guess what,it failed badly.
What is with all this flying anyhow, where did this idea even come from,i don't recall anything of mythology it just seems like people for some reason feel they have to get up higher than everyone else,i noticed it badly in Aion and turned me right off. I still recall to this day that old game called Horizons, they used Dragons and of course as expected,99% of the players were dragons,so you didn't even have players anymore,it looked dumb.Let's just stick to battling them, giant foes Ice Dragons,Fire Dragons,Wind Dragons,Lightning Dragons yep combat not taxicabs.
Dragonriders of Pern, first published in 1967 might be one source for dragon riding lore.
But my guess is for many 1984s Neverending Story really imprinted on many. Who didn't want to be Atrau and ride on the back of a talking, dog headed dragon?

However, I sort of agree with you, it makes it "less special" to have everyone doing it. Still, I recall flying a wyvern in Vanguard and it was enjoyable.

Stories about dragons are wide and varied. In some stories they are all powerful gods. In other stories they are cute little pets you carry around in your pocket. Depends on the imagination of the writers and the lore they invent.

Really? World of Warcraft has flying mounts. Most everyone has them at higher levels. Guess what? That game has been going on longer than most MMO's. No fail there.
Interesting trailer, but I'd call that more of a Wyrven than a proper dragon like Smaug.
Does remind me of how I thought dragon riding might have been in a game set in the Pern universe.
Perhaps but in pern they didn't capture there Dragon's, the dragon choose it's rider. They wanted to be ridden so there wasn't any putting up a fight.
Good series of books by the way.

Meh, it's Snail so it was a good thing they hid the UI because it would have been a flood of bots and goldfarm website spam mixed in with a 'rental' cash shop that costs more just to survive than you spend in a week on food. But yeah, looks pretty.
I'd have to question first, how easy is it to tame a dragon? Will taming be skill based, similar to UO? How hard will it be, how long will it take to get to 'dragon-taming' level? Are there drawbacks? I would hope that they would want to avoid everyone absolutely NEEDING to be a tamer. In UO, you could only have 700 skill points. I believe it required around 95 taming to be able to tame dragons. However, there was also another skill called animal lore. If you weren't sufficiently skilled there, you wouldn't be able to control the dragon. That's immediately almost 1/3rd of your available skill points. So, there was some drawback. At that point, you couldn't be as powerful of a fighter as someone who devoted all of their points to combat. But, you had a dragon. So, there's that. I guess I need to see the whole system.

Then you haven't even dabbled in mythology in the slightest. SMH....
Yep. And new WoW expansions ban flying in the new zones until you've explored the zone, because flying mounts kill exploration (and open world PvP). So in short, even the devs acknowledge they effed up with adding the flying mounts, but it's too late to go back and delete them altogether.

I remember you mentioned in some other thread that you liked L2. I was wondering if you have ever flown a wyvern there?
Nope but I wished!

Ok...
1 Thanks for showing me the Icarus part of Mythology, yes i know of it,i definitely can't remeber all of greek myth but it's all good.
However,if you are going to put it in your game, give it REASONING and not just we can fly sort of ordeal. If you perhaps are a descendant of Daedelus or brother to Icarus that way it is introduced into the game with some LORE/meaning.
The other guy,son of Poseidon rode a Pegasus, not the same thing, but again if we want to introduce the VERY rare Pegasus that is all good but it is suppose to be very rare, like 1 maybe.
Anyhow back to the game, that take down with the sword looked bad,too far away,so the hit box must be enormous. Also the transition is way too fast, there should be a taming period before you can ride it,FFXI was a game that got that part right ,where you had to earn the trust of the Chocobo before he would let you ride him.
That is all i ask from these games, don't just give me gimmicks, put some plausible realism into the ideas and some more depth prolonged sequences before the gimmick kicks in.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Sword take down too far away, transition way too fast, where is the taming period?
Transition from sword to xbow was ridiculous, not even believable,no time to load the arrow/bolt just sword to instant xbow firing.
If they want to have flying then create some LORE and plausible realism, like how did they come to the conclusion that rather than kill them they wanted to ride one?Where is the Lore and story that leads up to that point?
Yes i remember now the Icarus/Daedelus,thanks for pointing that out as i love Greek Mythology but can't remember them all, heck i struggle to remember my own phone number.None the less i want reasoning and plausible realism in my games not just a gimmick because we think it will sell more copies.
In Aion players made a joke of the game by setting up stalls up in the clouds in high remote places,it looked silly. In this game EVERY single player will be riding dragons and again make a farce of the game. The same thing happened in EQ2 once flying mounts came about that is the only mount people were using. An old game..Horizons they allowed players to play as a Dragon, well 90% were dragons, made a farce of the game.
Even if we look at the LORE aspect of Pegasus,it was a VERY rare flying Unicorn because it was sent by the gods,Icarus was son of a GOD,normal citizens in a world are not all going to be flying or riding Dragons if we want any real Lore or story or mythology to the game.
That is a the reason i call them gimmicks,i VERY highly doubt they have created any reasoning or story to any of it,just gimmicks to make sales. As well we yet to know the full extent of this game,i get a sneaky feeling people are going to see a nasty cash shop and go WTF !!.Like that BETTER Dragon that flies faster, can combat has storage compartments etc etc.
Let's wait and see when they are brave enough to show us a game and not just the gimmicks liek flying and Dinosaurs and Dragons.
