As far as harvesting materiels, I think I prefer to be able to travel freely, just , enjoying the landscapes with no interruptions.
If I end up being unable to progress a crafter, due to not being able to harvest better materials away from contested areas, I have to put on my serious hat and accept that I cant bend my gamepreferences enough to fit myself into this games design.
Damnit!
You likely know it all, anyway here are quick descriptions of economy and PvE (my favorites being mining, building and the Depths; also, couple more words about crafting). No quests, no PvE dungeons.
Of course, trying to play RvR focused game in solo/PvE manner while "relaxing comfortably" might lead to some...funny situations!?
Thank you James!
And you are probably right. I am having the hardest time ever so often trying to figure out the systems in many new games, trying not to get scared of by the world PvP or RvR, though RvR can be done in so many different ways, does not necessarily mean it has to be FFA PvP. So all in all, I try not to back away right away when I read those words.
So I investigate a little, see if it will be as bad as it might appear at first, dont want to miss out on a great game that way due to just a kneejerk reaction.
In this case though, I think there is not really a way around it.
And maybe I have to redefine why I play MMORPGs in the first place, since I seem to find myself drawn to more of a backup player in games, rather than a central player playing the central parts of games.
I really love these MMO worlds, worlds to explore, things to harvest, tons of people and love if games provide a lot of creative freedom for their players to participate in. So I wish there would be a place for players such as myself, that prefer to play in occupied worlds, but takes on a more quiet role on the sideline.
But we'll see.
CU looks really great, I dont see why CU shouldnt be able to become a great inspiration for more developers out there. So I really genuinely and deeply hope that CU becomes a succes, it will benefit more gamers in the future, than just the specific target audience for the game itself.
So bless, set sail and may the winds be in good favor.
@TENTING You'll be 100% safe while, say, building by C.U.B.E. on your private server or building/crafting/trading...in one of three starting zones. Also, you should be safe most of the time (and you will be able to know what time it is, depending on if/how CSE implements hinted siege windows) anywhere in keeps/forts on the contested territory.
Also, if you want to move around, explore and stay unnoticed - get one of three Scout classes. These were also mentioned a number of times as a part of scouting/crafting combos (locating resources etc.). As long as you are not too close to enemy forts or big battles, you should be rather safe in your stealth (tho stealth in CU is somewhat silly thing, but that's another story).
Of course, and again (and as you already noted), it's possible that CU just isn't the game for you.
