Guess I'm going to have to shop for some speakers shortly

The power converter on my subwoofer is starting to hum loudly.  I've gotten about 10 - 12 years out of these Klipsch THX 4.1 speakers.  I replaced a couple of over heated transistors on the signal splitter board last summer but did a lousy solder job because I didn't clean the circuit board.

    Those Klipsch's are classics.

Any chance you could just get a new amp? Not necessarily a new integrated amp, but something external, and just wire that in to power the speakers instead. If the speakers and enclosures are still good, it may have some life left.

For instance, I got a Topping TP21 to drive a pair of bookshelves. It's nothing fancy, but it's small and does the trick pretty well for stereo. And if it's just the sub, just get a new sub amp - it doesn't have to be the Klipsch 4.1 sub amp, it can be any off-the-shelf sub amp, and just wire the input from your 5.1 source and the output to the speaker directly.

That being said, after having those in service for so long, I can also understand the itch for just wanting to get something new.
