Well I'm sort of a noob. I played SWG from launch for about a year before moving on and I'm wanting to come back. All the bnet kiddies from WOW and the lack of end game content has done it for me.
Questions:
1. All I currently have is the original game and I noticed I can buy the entire game now with both expansions for 29.99, is that what I should do?
2. If I do that will I still be able to play my char I had before?
3. I logged onto my original char last night and I couldnt use any of my weapons, summon pets, etc. Any ideas?
4. I play, played, on Ahazi and if anybody has a good helpful guild please let me know. I could use the help getting back started.
Thanks for the help.

1) Yes, that's what I would do if I was you.
2) Yes you will. When you get the expansion install it right into the same StarWars directory you are using and then launch the game and go to your account settings and register it as an expansion. It will both re-activate your account and register you for JTL and ROTW.
3) If you have any pets that have insane ammts of HAM they are probably bugged because the HAM determines their Combat Level and if it's over 80 you cant summon them (check their CL, I bet it's over 100). Your armor you can wear but you may need to "convert" it to another type. What professions are you besides Creature Handler? Some weapons are profession specific now but most can be used by anyone or anyone above a certain "combat level" (determined by your skills). What weapon(s) do you have?
4) Dunno I play on Lowca but yeah my guild is really helpful... doesn't do you much good on ahazi though

I was pistoleer up to trickshot, got stopping shot because it was so good back in the day They're just pistols though I'm trying to equip.
I didnt wear armor, back then it was useless because of what it did with health regen etc.
I just left Wal-Mart and bought jump to lightspeed and I'll DL the other expansion. It'll cost me a little extra but I dont have to drive out of town. How can I tell what my CL is? All this combat level and stuff is all new to me. I feel like I'm learning all over again.
Yea my pets are the big gorilla, ape things that everybody had. I'll check their HAM when I get home.
I dont like crafting and prefer a ranged attack. What classes are good now? I almost had master marksmen after dropping most first aid so I could get commando. I always liked pistols though. They just became so underpowered when commando weapons came out. Pistols seem more RP and fit the story better imo.
thanks for the help
pistoleers and smugglers are crowd control classes now. they have attacks that root, snare, and daze enemies. also attacks that slow down their actions. they can still deal damage, but usually not on par with most other combat classes.
the good thing about the CU is, a lot of the specials for one profession will work with weapons from other professions. Smuggler's Concussion shot will work with any ranged weapon, not just pistols. so you can pick up an elite combat profression with the weapons you want to use, then another with the kind of attacks you want to use. naturally ranged specials dont mix with melee weapons and vice versa though.
your combat level will be listed on your interface HUD. it's a numerical value and pretty easy to interpret.

Hmm if you're over CL54 you should have a fairly large number of weapons available to you since most weapons are useable by anyone CL54 or higher (except the profession specific ones).
All the ranged professions are pretty much equal except for the fact that pistols are range 35, carbines range 50 and rifles range 65 now. Which is kind of neat. Pistols get a bunch of diffrent specials that help keep crowds under control and they also do pretty decent damage. It's not a lot per hit but they hit quickly so the DPS is comparable to other professions.
Carbines do more dmg but don't have much crowd control... they have lots of AREA attacks.
Rifles do the most dmg and have the greatest range but have penalties at very close ranges (under 20m)
Commando weapons are neat but they are all AREA AFFECT so be careful with them. Combined with Pistoleer or Smuggler they are awesome for crowd control.
Bounty Hunter can use pistols carbines or rifles without even training their elite professions (but is obviously better if you train at least one of the ranged weapon elites)
Melee is still, as always, very viable and they make AWESOME PVE tanks but in PVP you'll suffer a bit. (Don't bring a knife to a gun-fight)
CH is very powerful though you may need to buy some new pets or grow new ones if yours are too high in CL. They're supposedly fixing the bugged ones but don't hold your breath if ya know what I mean. God knows what they'll do when they do get around to fixing them.
Combat Medics are a solid class both for crowd control and healing. Docs are great buffers and healers.
The FOTM is currently BH / Rifleman / CM but if you don't want to be a FOTM class a neat combination is
Master Commando
Master Smuggler
Pistoleer 0203
Medic 0220
(Crowd control king!)
There are dozens of ways you can trick your character out. This is only one of them. It's actually a template I've toyed with switching to but I really enjoy my Bounty Hunter I've been one since Beta
Anyway, good luck with the game, you'll really enjoy it. Once you have more info on your template I can hopefully give you a suggestion on weapons to use for now.
As right now you say you're MCH and Some Commando that's actually a fun combination too. Commando uses ASSAULT armor (and you no longer really need to worry about the regen times involved with armor) and MCH uses Battle Armor.
I'm guessing that you're MCommando / MCH / Pistols 0001?
If that's so you should be able to use either Assault or Battle armor and you'll probably need to pick up an FWG5 or something. Check your pistols in your inventory and see what their requirements say. If they're profession specific they'll say if you need Master whatever or just novice. If they require novice whatever or master whatever you probably need to get new ones.
Good luck.

True but still nice, especially for BH since BH gets one as well so I have 3 as MBH / MC
Very nice in large PVP fights.

Actually its rather handy at rebel bases to grind faction too
Only problem is I can't KEEP armor on me when I grind like that. Thats what first got me so irratated at the armor repair system in the game. I would burn up a brand new set of armor in about 2 days.

Damage per second DPS is a misleading stat. High sounds good and is good, but as a master in a combat profession you never really reach your true modified DPS because the cooldown timers of various special attacks stop you from doing the maximum amount of damage.
Thats why weapons with high damage , modified by those specials that multiply the base damage, are still the most dangerous. Which is why rifle is STILL the ruling damage dealer (I am a smuggler pistoleer and I have very nice pistols, but its not as good as a high end rifle). Couple that with the rifleman being able to vanish from the radar and you can imagine some VERY nice PvP ambush situations with some "bait" players sucking the other side into a killing ground.
Have fun

Okay let me try this another way:
I have a toon that's a master Rifleman and my alt is a master pistoleer. The pistoleer kills things faster.
