This seems to have been designed mostly for newer players to keep the WoW in their veins + milk them for as much as they can until they realize the game is a waste of time and move on to something else.
Also, the going rate of tokens last I checked was 60k and for a older player that can be earned fairly easily so this may also be a way to up the token price to push some of those people to pay the $14.99.
Why would they want to increase the token price and force people to pay $14.99, when they get $20 when they use a token instead?
The $20 paid by newer players gets them in-game gold so they can buy all the shiny things they want.
The $14.99 is paid by older players who don't need the in-game gold but will struggle to make the expected 120k for their month of game time.
Like another poster said above, this is like the D3 RMAH without the ability to buy specific items but instead you buy in-game currency in bulk to buy stuff from the WoW in-game AH.
The token system when it was first introduced they said was to combat the gold farmers and it worked but now has evolved into a way to just milk the playerbase for all they can.

My question is, why would they want to push older players to pay a straight sub fee with $ for $14.99 a month, when they get $20 everytime a player uses a token for that same month of gametime?
As typical of Blizzard they never thought it out or just too dumb to see the long term problem of this. However it is of course just a greed move no matter how they spin it.
This system favors ONLY those with extra income to throw away,it is not a system that is FAIR across the board to all players. So what eventually happens is some super rich money bags just forces the gold price way down eliminating others who are not willing to over spend for RMT transactions.
This is why myself and others have NEVER agreed to or even in favor of RMT activity, weather it is via outside interference or the developer.
Imagine right after Blizzard talks about being FAIR with keyboards and such, they come out with an idea that is anything but fair.So of course FAIR gets tossed out the window when it involves Blizzard making more money.
I have flamed every single developer for this kind of bullshit and Blizzard is not let of the hook, they should be black marked for bringing more RMT activity into our games.
Money/greed has always been the route of all evil, that old saying continues to be true.Don't even try to tell me about how it favors in game players using gold,it creates a gold farming market, encourages more botting, yeah good move Blizzard, what a think it out B$ hand.

The price of WoW tokens is set by Blizzard. No one can force anything. Once a person buys the token from the AH, it's bound to them and can't be re-sold.

Right now on my server tokens are sold out. Older players who have gold spread out across multiple characters or in my case across 2 accounts haven't paid a sub fee since the tokens were introduced because we have enough gold to basically have a lifetime sub. Now that tokens are sold out if you did not stockpile tokens and if no one buys a $20 token and puts them on the AH we will have no choice but to pay the $14.99 if we want to play, get it?
This move basically gives more incentive to those willing to buy tokens because it will give you more in-game gold($20 for around 100k gold) while also spitting on older players and people who purchased multiple tokens to get the same amount of credits you can now get with just one.

So now the story has changed to the tokens being sold out? While there may be some short periods of time when there are no tokens listed, it doesn't last long. Token sales are region wide, not server specific. This is what you originally said and what I was specifically replying to:

That statement makes no sense. If an older player pays a straight sub fee, they pay $14.99. If they spend gold on a token to sub for a month, that token didn't materialize out of thin air. Someone else paid $20 for it. So increasing the token price to "push some of those people to pay the $14.99" is a poor decision, since $20 will always be greater than $14.99.

Yes, because everything Activision does is clearly is for the benefit of the players and not their own bank accounts. This is especially true for their monetization schemes.

Wizardry has no clue about anything he writes about Blizzard. He is not trying to criticise anything. He doesn't care if it is right or wrong or good or bad etc. He is here because he must bash Blizzard. He is the choosen one. He can't stop. I keep seeing you with this attitude in about every other discussion about WoW or Blizzard. Calling everyone who speaks out against one of them a hater, clueless or what else. Rarely making a reasonable point, but mostly taking it to a personal level with an unsubstantial one-liner.
WoW didn't lose ~10mio players because everyone was happy about the product or company behind it.
Let me take this to a personal level for once: Grow up and accept that not everyone shares the same level of fanboyism for WoW/Blizzard like you. The sooner you'll understand the concept of different opinions on a community forum, the better you'll get along in the long run. That is, if you plan to be around for a long run.

There's always going to be people here that dont like it when someone has an issue with their game.
Personally i dont get it. If i like a game that much then i sure as hell dont have time to be policing these forums. Im online playing it.

While i dont disagree with you here, i cant help notice how you're always jumping to the defence of WoW. People can be critical of of a game. You dont have to be Blizzards defender you know They are big boys, they can take a few mean words.

Last time I checked was a few days ago and tokens were 60k and when I logged in yesterday they were sold out. Do you not understand that I haven't paid $14.99 to play WoW since the tokens came out nor have I ever bought a token in the cash shop to convert to gold. I USE them when I BUY them from the IN-GAME AH with IN-GAME gold. No tokens in the AH means I can no longer play until I pay the $14.99 monthly sub fee, how do you not understand this? Region-wide tokens being sold out means there may be more like me who are stuck in the same situation.
"So increasing the token price to "push some of those people to pay the $14.99" is a poor decision, since $20 will always be greater than $14.99."
It is a decision made out of greed because it entices newer players who don't have gold to spend $20 to get a large sum of it in-game while also draining the coffers of older players to the point where sometime in the future they'll have to start paying a sub again. Not immediately but after a short while they will be making $ from both sides.

No tokens in the AH is short-lived. Main reason was because people were waiting to see if the prices were going to increase because of the announcement before spending real $ on them. And even then you can still find tokens available on the AH if you check periodically. Gold is a renewable resource in game, so players will always be able to make more to purchase more tokens with. Ideally, Blizz wants to keep the price at a good balance that encourages people to spend real $ on them, but not so much that players on the other side aren't willing to spend gold on them.
As soon as the price of a token in gold gets so high that people switch from using a token for their sub to using $ to sub, then Blizz starts losing $5 on each person each month. And that was my point, Blizz won't increase the price of a token in gold for the purpose of "pushing some of those people to pay the $14.99" because it's a loss for them. They would rather have people sub with a token and make $20.

I understand that they would like everyone to sub with $20 but people must buy the $20 tokens and put them up on the AH so people can buy them. If no one is spending $20 on tokens and putting them up = no game time for a portion of the playerbase who will have no other option than paying $14.99.

Money/greed has always been the route of all evil, that old saying continues to be true.Don't even try to tell me about how it favors in game players using gold,it creates a gold farming market, encourages more botting, yeah good move Blizzard, what a think it out B$ hand.
So clueless. Blizzard is the devil, lol.
Yes, because everything Activision does is clearly is for the benefit of the players and not their own bank accounts. This is especially true for their monetization schemes.
Well no kidding. This is what businesses usually do.
And because it's "what business usually do" it must not be criticised?
Again, clueless.
Other games don't even have the luxury of losing 10 million players and attributing that to something that Blizzard did is clueless because it is not only the fault of Blizzard. Players move on to other games and WoW got tiresome even for those who liked the game. That is normal human behaviour. I doubt there was anything Blizzard could have done to keep the population it had at the height of its popularity but people keep harping about this loss forgetting that even lightning in a bottle gets old. Very few games have ever managed to hang on to a majority of their population and yet this is expected of Blizzard like they can do something other companies could not.
Since folk cannot pin much on Blizzard as far as phenomenal success goes they place a higher burden on Blizzard to maintain it. What kind of ridiculous standard is this? They have churn most games have churn but the game has lost its magic and no amount of mumbo jumbo is keeping people . Why can't people just recognize this as a normal progression of a 12 year old game. Other companies get a pass when they lose players.

"Also, the going rate of tokens last I checked was 60k and for a older player that can be earned fairly easily so this may also be a way to up the token price to push some of those people to pay the $14.99."
My question is, why would they want to push older players to pay a straight sub fee with $ for $14.99 a month, when they get $20 everytime a player uses a token for that same month of gametime?
This system favors ONLY those with extra income to throw away,it is not a system that is FAIR across the board to all players. So what eventually happens is some super rich money bags just forces the gold price way down eliminating others who are not willing to over spend for RMT transactions.
This is why myself and others have NEVER agreed to or even in favor of RMT activity, weather it is via outside interference or the developer.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Thank you for that, I feel better now. I m talking about Wizardry, who is always attacking Blizz, you stepped in and well I responded, so maybe you can grow up.

and with how its pretty much set up (being able to buy any blizzard product via bnet balance) supply will never meet demand.
Personally i dont get it. If i like a game that much then i sure as hell dont have time to be policing these forums. Im online playing it.
People can be critical of of a game. You dont have to be Blizzards defender you know
They are big boys, they can take a few mean words.
