I played WoW since beta and left it a few months back. I am going to try EQ2 being a long time EQ player. (It was a love-hate relationship with EQ, hehe)
Just wanted to make one comment to you EQ2 peeps, many many people have left WoW as well, it just seems WoW brings in more than it loses (or just as many) and always has a huge community. As for why this is......I really have no clue. Blizzard does have a massive loyal following to pull from.
Just dont be fooled into thinking WoW is somehow this far superior game. EQ2 needs to worry about itself and stop worrying what other games are doing.
would you all say it's worth trying EQ2 again? I have it but cancelled it to play WOW. I have been getting a bit bored with WOW and was considering going back to EQ2.

I'd say go for it also, tons of quest (many new one's from when you probably left), good game engine, lots of new content for low and mid game (some you have to pay for though), semi-regular updates, decently populated servers, above average graphics, TONS of classes to choose from and a more mature player base then what you used to in WoW. Some good stuff comming in the near future with an apparently solid class re-work in the pipeline and of course the first full sized expansion for the game comming in early to mid September.
There's tons of reason to play EQ2, you just have to decide on whether those are the right reasons for you.
Is there a lot of both solo and group play? I believe I deleted my characters and will have to create a new one. I was alos curious if there are still low level players around to be able to group with.
The last time I played it was somewhat difficult to find other people to group with at low levels.
There are two types of additional content for EQ2. Expansion packs and the Adventure Packs. The Adv.packs are a somewhat small instance which cost like $5 or so (not sure the price in USA). You can also sign up for the full subscription package, paying more of course, but in which the Adv.packs are included for no extra cost. Personally I'd say it's no big thing either way. I have the full subscription and have spent a total of 1 hour in the first Adv.pack and probably 2 hours in the second. These packs don't seem to have any affect on general world gameplay at all.
As for the question about low levels and groups, I recently started a new character in an attempt to get more inspiration to play. I did play a Templar (healer) though, so groups were very easy to find. In general though, on Antonia Bayle server, there were lots of people from levels 10-20 or so. I was able to fly through the first 10 levels (due to experience in playing) so am honestly not sure how many players are working through 1-10 levels.
Trials are always a good way. Is an EQ2 trial at the moment now innit?

That's not entirely true. The first adventure pack was a waste, I agree, tho I'd pay those 5$ for the house items from the new zones if I didn't get it with my all access.
That said, the second adventure pack (which costs 8$, just btw, but still worth it imo) is nothing like the first one. I've spent a good 3 weeks there so far, and altho I pretty much burned through all the content, I'm still having a blast repeating it every now and then. The Splitpaw Saga added not one, but 3 solo/group zones, 2 solo zones, 4 group zones and 2 raid zones, as well as a "city" hub zone which connects all of those. Other than the hub, all other zones are instanced and scale according to player (or group average) level, with the only minimum requirement being level 20 to gain entry. From level 20 on, each instance adjusts itself to the level of the player, plus, there are three difficulty settings for each instance which adjust the mob levels more (normal - base mob level is player level, difficulty - base mob level is player level + 2, and difficult - base mob level is player level + 5). The instances themself are what I expected EQ2 to be in the first place (well, most of them anyhow), it's not just go from point A to point B killing everything in the way, most instances have fun scripted events (there's a ring event, an arena, an instance where you are splitted from your group and have to find them, and in the raid zones there are also riddles and puzzles you need to solve in order to progress). Other than that, they also added more interactive objects to each zone, you can now move crates and planks to build bridges and ladders, and can use explosives to blow up certain walls - sure, it's a limited selection and a bit reduant, but it's the first time a game does that, and it's a start.
All in all, adventure packs are NOT required - you can do very well without ever setting foot in Splitpaw or the Tombs of Night, but imo, Splitpaw Saga is well worth the 8$ it costs, it offers more content than LoY offered for EQ (and we had to pay what, 30$ for that one?), and not only that, but the content is suited for everyone (minus the two raid zones) and not only that, but those zones are actually fun, and add that feeling of adventure, rather than the random slaughterfest.
But if you decide not to get SPS, well, I'm sure Desert of Flames will reuse and enchance all the new features from SPS, or atleast I hope so. I got really bored with EQ2 before SPS, but after playing that adventure pack I am now waiting anxiously for the expansion.
Oh, and Shae, I agree entirely high end content is not all about raiding, I was just pointing out compared to EQ, EQ2 has a lot more high end content. With that said, I think SPS and DoF are good examples of the change EQ2 has undergone, up untill not too long ago, all content additions were linear and much like EQ expansions - more zones, more mobs, more quests, same old all around. But with SPS and the scaling instances, the scripted events and interactive objects, and DoF with it's introduction of the arena champions (if you want to get a sneak peek at it, do /showarena ingame) it seems EQ2 is adding new forms of gameplay , and while the selection is still limited, it's a start in the right directions, and I expect to see most of what we were promised at release implemented in game. I agree it should have been there at release, but hell, I'm still happy with EQ2 the way it is right now, and while it could be better with all those features at release, atleast it keeps me from going out and spending all my money on books and beer

"45 paladin lfg" for about 2 hours then I logged, once in the morning, once in the evening and once at nigt, 4 days in a row now, no luck. Oggok, and it's apparently not just me who's haveing this problem, and SOE seems to realize this too, other wise they wouldn't be spending money on sending out these huge glossy posters. I defiantly think a server merg is in order, its jsut not possible to find people.
Just spamming LFG does not cut it for finding groups anymore. First off you need a guild. Then you can spam LFG. Then you need to do a /who for your zone and start sending tells. Then you need to do /who for anywhere and start sending tells. Use everything at your disposal and you will be able to find a group. But simply spamming "LFG" in ooc is not gonna cut it, even in WoW.

I think they should add a new label to MMOG boxes, right under "Internet connection required to play" they should add "Social interaction required to play", would cut down complaints a little.

LFG has NEVER worked in EQ II because no one pays attention to them. Use the grouping tool that they GAVE you to get a group instead of pissing everyone off by shouting around in zone spamming like an idiot. I intentionally do NOT invite people that sit there and do that like in EQ 1 because they aren't bright enough to use the tool like everyone else and get a group the easy way.

Um, i'd have to argue with the idea that the populations are dwindling. Recently there have been more instanced zoning, which means more players in each instance -- aka, when heading out of North Queynos and into Antonica, a few months ago it wouldn't have asked which instance to use. Recently, like last evening, I had three instances to choose from for Antonica. Which says to me that the population is increasing, not decreasing.

Ok, so how did I get to level 45 posting "lfg" in the OOC? I mean, use your brain. As for anarchyart, the "normal" way people find a guild is they find groups of people they like teaming with. IF THERE ARE NO PEOPLE TO TALK TO YOU CAN'T TALK TO PEOPLE YOU MORON. Ffs, so much for my theory about EQ2 attracting a more intelligent crowed. Im starting to think MMOs are idiot magnets in general.

I'm into a good little RP fun every now and then. But it's not "shouting my head off". It's making a macro that sticks "XX paladin lfg pst", and hitting it every now and then with my /lfg tool on. People who are used to more traditional mmorpgs are more likely to invite someone they see in ooc rather then open up the player search tool, just seeing the name in the chat and typing the invite command makes things extremely easy for team leaders, I mean /invite player name any where in the zone in EQ2 is a very nice function. You are absolutely delusional and insane, anyone who would blow how people look for teams in a videogame out of proportion this much needs to be on nerve pills or some sort of medication. Its just a fact that EQ2s community has taken a massive hit sense launch and needs some server mergers, what is the big deal?
Originally posted by Nihilanth well, if this says anything, its 4:00AM, normally not a good time for groups on an american server right? well on my lvl 12 (now after this group) cleric i found a group an hour and a half ago and only had LFG up for about 2 minutes.
Might need to move to a Euro server, i'm in the US but i'm a night owel. Don't want to leave all my gold behind on my toon >_>!!!

what level are you and do you often team in the "adventure pack" areas? I was trotting arround the server looking for people and found another 45 player (beserker) and he told me to go buy the adventure packs and it would be easier.

not suirprising
WOW has drawn peeps away from many of the games
ac2 same deal
most people dont want eq or eq2 or ac or ac2
there are not enough hardcore rpgers to warrant keeping eq and eq2 alive after vangaurd comes out
either that or vangaurd flops
you cant have all three going just not enough players to go around
since all three are so similar only one can stand
I wonder which one will stand and which 2 will fold
will eq and eq2 peeps abandon their characters to play a very similar game albeit with better controls and graphics
hard one to call
soe messed up with eq2 and since WOW they have been steadily declining but so has ac and ac2
just too many games that are too similar
with vangaurd being so similar in terms of people that it appeals to I can see a numbers crunch coming
no wonder games like DNL among others are being created to appeal to a very broad customer base
the narrow customer base approach seems doomed from the get go in this age of games popping up everywhere

I'm sorry but thats just ludicris. Even in a game like AnarchOnline with only arround 30,000 subcribers, you can spam LFG and find a group. There needs to be a server merger.
P.S.
How do I find a guild If I can't even find a team!?

WoW has 2 million subscribers and you can Spam LFG all night if you want and a LOT of times your just not gonna get a group. You have to use everything at your disposal, not just ooc.
How do you find a guild? Here's an idea although I can't take credit for it. TALK TO PEOPLE!
I think they should add a new label to MMOG boxes, right under "Internet connection required to play" they should add "Social interaction required to play", would cut down complaints a little.

Sorry for posting slightly OT but where did you find this 10 day free trial for old players?
I stopped playing a month after release because I was bored of the slow level progression at 30+ and would like to see if anything has changed.
Yep - I played at release - quit after my 4 month sub ran out (I used a month and a half of it) and I am just now comming back. I wanted to try things out again. My old guild is gone (Kunou's guild) so I'm all alone on Befallen.
PM me if you'd like to meet up!

Incorrect, there are 3 types of content. Free content as well as the others you listed. The free content has by far been more then any of the pay content to date.

[Edit: oops clicked wrong thread]

*chuckles* So let me get this straight. You got to level 45 by shouting your head off that your LFG when there is this really nice grouping tool right up ontop the screen. And then after doing this you ask me to use MY brain?

I just don't get it. I play on Oggok and I hardly ever have trouble finding groups. I don't know if it's shitty luck on your part or something else.
well, if this says anything, its 4:00AM, normally not a good time for groups on an american server right?
well on my lvl 12 (now after this group) cleric i found a group an hour and a half ago and only had LFG up for about 2 minutes.
