  • Independent – the ultimate handheld console released too soon
  • CNET – come for Zelda, then wait for more games
  • Engadget – revolutionary, but it still needs work
  • Gamespot – the Switch feels like the culmination of years of hardware growing pains from Nintendo and Nvidia
  • Tech Crunch – “[…] unless you really must have Zelda on the go (it’s available for the Wii U as well), the Switch is not by any means a day-one purchase, and you can feel perfectly secure holding off for a bit.
  • Post Arcade – the most versatile home console ever is in some ways strangely minimalist
  • The Verge – pure potential
  • Wall Street Journal – elegant (but unready) balance of portable and home gaming
  • Wired – foul play
  • Nintendo Life – Nintendo’s most important console yet
  • Polygon – promising
  • Techradar – 4/5
  • The Telegraph – 4/5

I heard around that the update to apply the control apps and support apps is not out yet, so reviews about its functionality are partial at best.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I disagree. It's perfectly fair to judge a game/system on what it is at the release date, not what it is later.

Release date is 3 march, they need to wait for day one patch.

As usual with a 1st generation product there will be unforeseen problems.  Best wait for the bugs to be worked out.

I'm just waiting until there's more than 5 games. Even those 5 games, one is horrible looking (1 2 switch), and one is a re release (mario kart 8). Once I see what the new mario plays like, I'll probably be more interested. I have a Wii U so I can get my zelda fix without paying for a switch.

I think launching without a web browser and Netflix functionality was a bad idea. I mean, sure we all have a dozen devices that do all that, but if I'm already on my switch, and I'm needing to web browse or wanting to watch Netflix, it's a little inconvenient to have to switch to a different device. Nothing major perhaps, but still an annoyance.

Also, the launch line-up (or lack there-of) completely sucks.

I understand Netflix, but web browser? Do people use the web browser functionality on their consoles often? I usually just use my phone. I don't know if I've ever touched it on my consoles.

No changing the "RPG landscape" then?   lmao

It's already confirmed there will be a large day 1 firmware update for the Switch.

Hopefully that will address the connection issue with the left joy-con. Otherwise, Nintendo is in for a ride and not a pretty one.

The Legend of Zelda: The Franchise that always gets a pass on criticism since they made that one awesome one (link to the past).

But hey, who am I to judge, 18 games deep into the series and it still moves consoles. Still a killer app all these years later.

Sorry, I've been bitter about Nintendo since they dropped the ball in the Gamecube era and never picked it back up.

To each their own.  I prefer the original game.  IMO it had the best puzzles and hidden gems.

People are already getting review copies. That WAS the release date, maybe not the public release date, but it was still released and still fair to judge the system on what Nintendo gave them.

I went to a show tonight and there was a Switch commercial showing off new Zelda. On the big screen I was surprised, the game looked like it was hungry for resources. Game looked choppy, I wasn't impressed. My sons each pre ordered so I hope it's all good come release.

They've been playing Nintendo's since they were toddlers. My oldest learned to read at 4 because of Harvest Moon ;)

Day 1 patch.. People are still buying into the magical day 1 patch that fixes all the bugs and issues.  LOL people are so damm gullible.  I will wait and see on this.  Cause if covering up the end of eather of the joy cons with your hand is enough to cause it to lose connection for abit. Ageain I am waiting and seeing on this. After the whole Wii U I have very little faith in Nintendo. So far the launch lineup is laughable at best with just 1 game pulling draw for the entire console.  Doesn't speak to well for the console itself.

As a device I have to say that the Switch is.... Ummm. Garbage. Even on the Switch Zelda has big frame rate loss ( even worse on the Wii U ). How stupid is Nintendo these days?

That's why Zelda is used to promote it by itself the switch is well....

Much better than i was expecting tbh. Also Zelda is going down well as a good game so far. It is a shame there is barely anything else to play

I played around with a prerelease version.  I was not impressed.  Of course, I am not really into handheld gaming that much either.

The controllers will take some time getting used to.  Personally I found them hard to use.  If you have big hands you are in trouble.

If you are into Nintendo games, like Mario and Zelda probably a good buy for you.  For the rest of us probably not.  Already told the kids to forget getting one, done buying anything Nintendo after wasting money on the WII-U.

I also don't see many developers willing to port their games to the Switch either so it will be just like the WII-U, very limited amount of games available.
