im a fan of sci-fi mmos and pvp however there seems to be a huge void at the moment and not one game filling it, i used to play neocron, EnB, lineage II , WoW , EVE and GW i liked them all but im really looking somthing thats going to quench my pvp bloodfirst while still offering strong rp / pve content. i would consider going back to WoW if it was so cartoony and people diddnt shout greifer at me over yell and the nazi gms storming around., what im hoping is somone can sugest a game that plays like neocron but is as stable as other games on the market....
any comments welcome, thanks
(unless ofcourse your just going to whine about my grammer in an attempt to make yourself look reallly KOOOOOOL ROFFLE EPENIS +++!!!!1111)

Definitely going to want to try SWG. It has some ok PVE but the PVP is very good. People say there are too many Jedis and blah blah, but if you just practice a lot and work to be a good nonjedi then you shouldn't have too much of a problem. If you do play make sure you play on Ahazi since that server seems to have the best PVP.
I'm a big Sci Fi romantic myself, and at the moment I'm getting my needs fulfilled from SWG.
Well if EVE didnt do it for you then I guess your only real choice would be SWG, which I don't really want to suggest. Go read the General Forums at Starwarsgalaxies.com to get an idea of the state of the game. It seems like you want a very freeform PvP system, something as hardcorish as EVE? Well SWG is no where near that, mainly because with the TEF system tossed out, it's completely consensual. Unless of course you're a BH hunting jedi, but good luck finding a jedi who won't use vehicle or house tricks and laugh at you while you hopelessly try to stop them. If you end up getting The Total Experience pack then make sure you dont get scammed into selling your bark for a measly price.
Sorry if I'm raining on your parade cobra but I really don't like people going into SWG expecting something great then complaining why no one warned them.

PVP in SWG isn't 'hardcore' and yes it's voluntary but it's very much alive. I've played both EVE and SWG and the PVP in both is pretty good. I could never get into EVE for various reasons but SWG offers me a really good freeform PVE game with tons of roleplay opportunities and the PVP is good enough to sate my bloodlust when it rises.
And, unfortunately, other than EVE and SWG there aren't any other options right now.

Try Face of Mankind. It's free now and in open beta, get it while you can. It's very similar to Neocron if you just look at the screen shots, with the atmsphere and FPS style. The game concepts are very different from Neocron though but it has what you are looking for, heavy PvP. Definetly check it out.
i may give eve another try, im not really a big star wars fan, whats project entropia like, is it active and stable?

PE is free to download and if you don't mind investing the effort it wont cost you much to play but most people usually end up paying $15 a month. PVP is restricted to certain areas. You wont be able to grief noobs. They have a whole continent dedicated to pvp and i think theres some exansion coming that will deal with spaceship pvp. It's not a bad game and you can make money off it too. It's not the best game out but if you want sci - fi and pvp you might as well check it out since it wont cost you anything to look at.
Make a difference!
I played PE a few months and spent a hell of alot more money than I would have on a regular MMO, I just played too much and wasn't lucky enough with the loot. Anyone play recently? Do they still have that annoying talking sound :P.

the sci fi genre for mmo's is in a bit of a slump, MxO was a total bomb (not the good kind) and I was left wanting more on SWG (at release, couldn't stick it out to the space expansion, which SHOULD have been at release)
I loved AO, but not a fan of its pvp system. planetside died with core combat, i'm not casual enough a player to play Eve. Imperator was cancelled (though I don't think pvp was planned at all for it at release) Guess what we have left to hope on is Auto Assault.
It's really a shame because I love the sci fi genre, but there isn't anything grabbing at me out there at the moment.

Hmmm Core Combat didn't kill PlanetSide. It's still got over 55,000 players. I will say this though... core slowed the growth of the game.... You can tell if you look at when core combat came out and then look at the growth rate at that time I would agree that Core Combat was a bad expansion because it appears to have utterly stopped the growth of the game which, pre-core, was skyroketing and post-core is kind of stable with a slow upward trend.

You have two choices left:
Anarchy Online - anarchyonline.com
Star Wars Galaxies - station.com
Both are NICE games. SWG is UO+AO = SWG.
AO is still FREEEEE to download and FREEEE to play for 1 full year! (technically until Jan 2006, since the program started Jan of this year.)

Anarchy Online is definitely something to try. I believe the core game is free to play now, too. If you want any of the expansion content you'll have to kick in a monthly fee, but the core game is really pretty entertaining if it suits your style.
The PvP is basically sort of a zone-of-control system; there are a limited number of areas in which you can build skill/stat boosting towers (they enhance your character), and those zones have PvP windows that allow others to attack them. There are two factions, and whichever side has the most zones of control to its credit gets additional side bonuses. If you're a fan of full pvp, though, it may be somewhat disappointing. As I mentioned, the fields only have limited windows during which they're vulnerable, so it's not all-out warfare. If memory serves (it's been a few years since I played), there are some areas where PvP can occur at anytime, and there are also arenas in the big cities. The game is largely built around grouping, but it's entirely possible to solo some of the professions all the way to the end without much difficulty (though AO is definitely more complicated and difficult than World of Warcraft, so don't use that as a basis for comparison). The mission system can (and does) get very stale, but the world is pretty large and full of other ways to advance.
All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
If its PVP that you want, then I HIGHLY suggest you check out Darkspace - it is a tactical space combat game - you take command of various ships depending on the roles needed - from engineers & transports, scouts & frigates and all the way up through destroyers and cruisers to the massive dreadnaughts & space stations.
The entire game revolves around PvP between the three factions, we're always capturing, fighting over, and losing star systems. Its not a game that you can solo easily, its ment to be team oriented. They just released the 1.483 patch which introduced a massive overhaul of the entire system, we've got a brand new map to fight over, and it has to be the best online community I have ever been a part of (and thats saying a lot).
Come on over & tell 'em Coeus sent ya'
