I was wondering which profession you all want to try first thing the game releases. I personally am going to be an information broker and news agent. I will report on big fights between organisations and transport highly sensitive data i buy from shady pirates to highest paying corporations. I will scan the vast living breathing universe for anomalies and sell the jump point coordinates.
You can be anything, from a simple space janitor to a multi billion trading Magnate.
What are you looking forward to do?

I like the FPS play so when it comes to also crew stuff, boarding would be quite fun.
If it comes to ships, I like the "support" type, that is things like refueling (ships like Starfarer) and repairing (ships like the Crucible).
Side of that, Passenger Transport, if they balance the game in a way long-distances have a decent cost, this profession will kick off.
Of cause it will be a challenge but CIG is making so many ground breaking new developments one more would not be a big deal.

Have fun
You missed some bits on professions, the Repairing, Refueling (ships based on specific support tasks), the electronic warfare where the info runner and hacking stands, the main Exploration profession that does lie within scanning but it has 2 sides the whole thing "player discovered a new jumpoint" (persistent discovery from exploration) and the exploration of PG driven content like derelicts spawned in space/planets.
You can have a role of tuning, engineering and repairing tasks within a ship.
Repair and Refuel would be under Resource Czar i guess.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I think we might see more gameplay surrounding escape pods and players stranded in space.
There is no MMO where you can be a janitor or lowly peasant.
There is no other choice but the space janitor.

Edit: Maybe I should go pester Grafton to see if there's any plans for it.
It will depend on how it plays out to see if doing that is worth it or not.
A player insurance company could insure more expensive high end ship modules.

I was just thinking Life is Feudal, the MMO isn't around yet but it shall be the peasant life experience.
In EVE people scammed trillions of ISK ... and CCP did not interfere. Its a dog eat dog world out there and as long as its done within the game rules, IMHO the game provider will not interfere.
But as soon as it was done via meta gaming (--> gambling casinos) they cracked down hard.
Have fun
But will RI permit this sort of freedom? Some people seem to believe the answer will be no.
