Free to play equates to grindie, time consuming jip joint. A jib joint for those that don't know is a reference to the old time arcades in which they let you in for free but really tried to sell you things, mostly junk, at the exit.
In it's simplest form (and traditional form), F2P is nothing more than free access to the servers. Anything else added is just another service, which could also include free or paid services.
Well I still feel the way they introduced this was a completely dirty move trying to get people to spend some more money on the original game.
However.. I am looking forward to playing this one as light hearted co-op with my gf and a friend. Even more so since I just bought the Alan Wake bundle before their license ran out so I am really in the mood for some more spooky New England scenes.

I played RIFT for three years. 'No tricks, no traps' *used* to be their slogan. This definition of 'free' is hauntingly familiar and I can tell you what it lead to : artificial progress barriers, walked-back promises, business development decisions of rare stupidity, obscenely in-your-face monetization, ungodly RNG, and such eye-bleeding grind that you were willing to pay just to avoid having to play the game. And eventually I realized I didn't even recognize the game I used to love anymore. 'Free' establishes the value of a game at zero dollars.
SWL is the first beta I've been invited to where I gave up and uninstalled part way through. I've given this game more retries than it deserves and the latest is the final nail in the coffin for me.
If your game is really really good it doesn't have to be free. Period. So where does that leave this.
But, since "really really good" is really subjective term, the game will be better (in term of marketing) when it become more accessible, hence free model. Accessibility will help TSW to find more audience, and vice versa.

Too bad they never had the money to make the game as it should have been. FunCom saw it, but couldn't get there. Too small and terrible PvP.
I remember when the original was in development I thought "This is going to be a great game" and it felt so far short it wasn't even funny...>What they said they were going to do and what they put out were two different worlds.
I for one wouldn't trust Funcom. Lately, their strategies have been very ... opportunistic and never really to the benefit of their players. They also seem to be quite keen when it comes to stopping working on their titles and somehow "rebooting" them.

Extra bank & inventory space from cash shop has been a thing in TSW since ages.
Same name as EVEs, though CCP is in the process of replacing it with the new PLEX.
