Steam Direct is a replacement of Steam Greenlight.
Many people think Steam Direct was designed in hopes of reducing scammy games in Steam Greenlight. This is actually not correct and was a myth that was even perpetuated in the gaming media.
Its actually a pre-cursor to making it EASIER for developers to effectively 'self publish' with the long term idea being that community members will curate and be able to generate income from curation.
The fee is $100
