L2 vs WoW

MudshovelMudshovel Member Posts: 79

Greetings

I've been playing WoW since its EURO release and was very pleased with it. Except the fact that IMO seems to be too much of a simple game. The game "guides" you too much..

L2 seems interresting, more intended for hardcore players just like me..
Except that on various reviews, it seemed to take a lot of time leveling and recovering from wounds/mana recharging, everything looks slow. Do you need to buy all items? Money based?

Is it worth investing that amount of time? Is there a lot of content for all levels? Is it easy to find a good guild? For EURO players, what is the best server?

Thank you for reading this!

See ya on the battlefields..

Since you are an European player, Teon would be the best server because it is European server. Also, it is a lot easier now to lvl cause of Necroplis and Catacombs plus there is a Newbie Guide that helps you but it is still pretty hardcore. There are things for all lvls, like castle seiges, Festival of Darkness, Seven Signs, PvPing, etc. It is pretty easy to find a guild(atleast in Erica server), especially in Gludin where there are many people that are low lvl there.

    Is Teon an active server?
How much time would it take to reach mid-level while playing few hours a day (3-5)?

Yes Teon is very active. I am not sure, it depends on where you will go. If you play 3-5 hours a day, lvl 15 won't take very long(then go to Gludin), and you can get in a guild, and usually, higher lvl people will help you out.

There are a LOT of levels in Lineage II!

It's certainly a grind. What I like about it however is (1) it is wide-open PvP, so you always have to staay awake and be aware of your surroundings, (2) it is a really gorgeous game from the artistic point of view (3) there is a tremendous sense of freedom in the game to do what you want when you want and (4) free content updates every several months.

It DOES take time to level, once you get past 15-20. The game has added newbie help (free buffs, free weapon powerups etc.) so that now getting to 20 or so is much less arduous than it once was, but it's still pretty time consuming.

Yes it's hardcore in that when you are killed you can drop equipment and items. MP regenerate slowly so there is some downtime there as well. It's not an easy game by any means, or a game that revolves around storyline or questing ... it's a killing game ... killing monsters and killing people.

If you are looking for a game with more freedom, this is definately the one for you! This game has so much freedom it is almost crazy!

Yeah it is hardcore, but you said you were hardcore so it seems to work out! Lvling isn't as bad as ppl say esspecially now. Once you get to lvl 30ish the game gets more exciting because there is more people.

Want to have fun fast, this is my 2 cents. The first 16-20 lvls may seem boring, but with the buffs noobie buffs now, should be easy! Remember, the first character to hit lvl 5 is the one that will recieve buffs, and new player bonuses. This is the ONLY character that will recieve the bonus, so make shure you know what you wanna play before your first character hits lvl 5.

Then the next thing, is make friends...actually make friends as soon as you can! High lvls, low lvls, whatever...as long as you like them, and they like you! Then you can join a clan, or make your own! I made my own with a friend, very hard to do, at low lvl, so I would probally recommend just joining a clan!

Just so you know, you don't have to be high lvl or hardcore to have fun! I am anything but hardcore, and I have played for 5 months and am only at lvl 31, but it is very fun nonetheless!

    Hope you have fun!

    First thanks to all ::::08::

I've read the entire official L2 website for all the info I could grab on, looks pretty interresting.
I accept the fact that it might be hard to lvl up, but the economy system scares me. I do not want to sit in the same area for X hours just to get myself some rusty equipment..

I think I'll give it a shot, build my character up to lvl 20, after the first class transfer and see what the real game is all about..

that is smart... get him to lvl 20...

However... this game isn't like WoW at all... doesn't even resemble it.

    WoW's quests are very fun...

L2... well.. I personally hate them.
However... that is not what the game is about. I would reccomend you going to a more populated server so that you have a better chance of meeting people. This game is about clans and clan warefare (unless you are like me and like the whole solo, one man against the world sort of thing).

and you won't get rusty equipment. There is not equipment wear and tear. However... this game is about equipment. And because of this people make dwarf alts to make money (I did... it's the only way I was able to afford anthing timely).

However... if you are patient then you don't need the dwarf alt. There are money quests and as long as you stay light on the soul or spirit shots (cylinders that increas your striking power... but they cost money) then you should do "ok".

Money is A LOT easier to get now because of the Catacombs and Necropolis, and the seal stones! Though, some prices are crazy.

i have been playing on euro servers (sunstrider) in wow, made a 60 priest and stuff...

I played on Devianne in lineage 2 and made a lvl 56 Shillien Elder (darkelf buffer/healer).

But when it comes down to it, these two games are SO diffrent you wouldn't belive it...

so all i have to say is, if you intend to play for maybe 4months, go for WoW, if you wanna play more, grind more, cry more and have ALOT of fun trying to take over castles, doing politics ect L2 is better, L2 is scarry though cause you have to be SO dedicated to be able to get into it, even if you don't intend to you will after lvl 30...

Dude WoW is the top mmorpg right now and L2 hasnet even staked up to top 3.

    WHAT DO I PUT HERE

  • MouseHaxsMouseHaxs Member Posts: 33

WoW made it up there and I belive will soon drop it was something new to look at something that took them quite a while to release and yet after such a long date they still released with some major issues with the game but if your looking for something with longer play value i would go with L2 because wow is boring once you hit upper levels

HECK ITS ON THE HOME PAGE!!)

WoW is for children, or casual gamers. L2 is for hardcore players who love a challenge. It could take a casual player a week or more to reach level 20. The quests up to level 20 are pretty cool, and get you pretty good money and equipment, and the exchange system for upgrading your armor / weapons, as well as the newbie buffs... I was fully equipped in the best non-grade gear by the time I hit 20, and had enough extra money to start switching to D-Grade gear.

This is definelty a game that those that haven't been happy with the current state of the games to try out. It's really cheap to buy, and it's worth more than any other mmorpg in the market. If you like pvp, if you like challenge, if you like your accomplishments to mean something. Then this game will satisfay everything. The grapchis are amazing, the enemies are amazing, the AI is intelligent... I'm an old school EQ/UO player... and I'm in love with L2.

Remember that WoW has a huge, active fan base because of it's Diablo / Warcraft / Bnet fan base. L2 has recieve a lot of bad press because of the farmers (which admittedly are rampant) but if you don't pay them no mind, and play your own game, get in a good clan, and enjoy what it has to offer then your own experience will vary from the large mass.

Also, the game is hard. This game has a death penalty, and it sucks. But I like difficult games with stiff penalties, adding to the excitement of the game.

Actually, he was speaking about players playing the game worldwide. Not the silly "Hype" meter here on MMORPG.com. L2 is the largest.

WOW doesnt even come close to comparing to L2. WOW is like a childs game comparitively... training wheels and bumper rails galore in WOW. L2 is hardcore for the big boys of MMORPGs.image

BTW, if you have played EvE and CoH... you would know how far off the "HYPE" meter is. Those games hace to be the biggest "over-hyped" no topend games of all time. Just plain BLAH!

    Have you ever played WoW?

Eperienced it? It owns Lineage 2 by far....

Ive played WoW for six months and also I played Lineage 2 for a very long time, through korean beta into korean retail then when US open beta launched I played it and continued on in retail, Lineage 2 led to no where, new content is added like every half year? Theres nothing to do other than grind for meaningless level and the PvP does not take skill at all, period.

Whilst WoW have better PvP, both for group and solo but the risk factor sucks thought that you can't lose anything upon death but it's way better than L2.

The mobs, quests, PvE encounters are far superior to those in L2 as well and as well is the itemization.

In L2 you end up looking like everyone else having no really options in equip nor is L2's skill system anything close to WoW's talent system for a further customization towards your playstyle.

WoW owns Lineage 2 and anyone who says anything else is really stupid.

But for personal reference you might enjoy L2 more than WoW but that's just taste.

And for the child game part, what group of children can put together a perfect, 5 or 10 man group for PvP and clean the house with any opponent or run 40 people through MC in 5~ hours (even though it gets rather repetetive) or clear BWL? The high-end in WoW isnt at all a childs game.

You are seriously brainwashed. Got love PR and Advertising Blizzard does to kids these days. image

WoW is a cartoony lack-luster no top-end game. It takes about 1 month to get to level 60... Lineage2 takes 6 months (atleast) to get to 75 and then you have subclassing and then Hero.

Lineage2... your Clan can OWN Castles and Clan Halls. What can you own in WoW? NOTHING. You have NOTHING to fight for other than to say you fought.

Again, WoW is limited and a childs game.

In L2, there is a chance that your armors/itmes will drop. if you spend many months just to buy a armor. if it drops and someone pick it up and run away. you will cry....

  • BigQEdBigQEd Member Posts: 44

    1) You cannot drop your weapon unless you have a "PK" count of 5+.

    2) Chance of dropping your main armor is much less if you have a "PK" count under 5.

    3) Your enemy can also drop their items.

    4) Weapons are the most expensive thing in the game... other items are fairly easy to replace at your current level no matter the level.

    5) I love the challenge...

You have always a chance of dropping your weapon, the pk 5+ increase your dropchance on all stuff. And if I'm not mistaken in normal pvp your chances to drop are reduced. But weapons can always drop for sure, seen a few drop it on death.

And WoW isn't a bad game, I enjoyed it a lot more in the beginning then I'm enjoying Lineage 2. In september I make my choice between the two. At this moment WoW is a bit ahead.

Sorry but they made changes. You absolutely cannot drop your weapon unless your PK count is 5+.

And WoW is a childs game... Cartoony Cartoony Cartoony. It also lacks top end content and is to easy to achieve top level.

  • BhazirBhazir Member Posts: 321

WoW has more roleplaying going on, and that is what I'm looking for a game. Not endless grinding, not sure what you put as easy. But grinding in L2 isn't that difficult, it is just boring from time to time mostly. I haven't found any mmorpg that is difficult.
