At Microsoft’s E3 briefing, the company revealed a load of new information about the Xbox Scorpio. Not least its name, which is now Xbox One X. But there was more. This mini monster is the smallest Xbox ever made, while managing to pack in more power than any other games console.
Xbox One X launch date: 7 November 2017.
Xbox One X price: £449/$499
More new info: The Xbox One X will be fully backwards-compatible with Xbox One games. Xbox One games will run better, look better (thanks to anisotropic filtering) and load faster.
On the technical side, there was some new information about the specs, in addition to what was revealed a couple of months back. The processor is cooled using a liquid vapour chamber, a technique that’s becoming more common on more compact devices. There’s a brand-new power-management system for the most efficient delivery of electricity seen on an Xbox console.

I mean, sure, the specs look alright, but surely the majority of developers are still going to be making their games for the whole Xbox One range, not just targeting this new version? So, is this new version purely to support VR?
At the end of the day the difference between an Xbox 1 running Windows 10 stuff and a PC running Windows 10 stuff is ...... depending on what you want to do .....
I can just about understand them wanting to release a console with VR support, but in my opinion it would be better to wait a few years and then release an actual new xbox and beat the competition by being first with the next generation of VR.
But the 4k support...they already released an xbox version with 4k support: the xbox one s.
Feels very much like just another excuse to wring more money out of the playerbase. The core experience of playing games isn't going to change at all.
MS should have done as SONY did and make a console that's slightly more powerful, nor harming it's downward compatibility. XB1X has either 2 ways to go from here:
1. die a lonely death because of previous mentioned reasons
2. be the 'uber-XB1 console' with a lot of games that run only on the XB1X and kill the XB1 in the mean time.
Both options are bad for MS. Option #1 kinda kills XB1X sales, while #2 kills probably both because people feel betrayed by MS and don't wanna chance the XB1X for it's successor and similar problems...
