What current MMO gives you the most for your sub fee?

jpnolejpnole Member UncommonPosts: 1,698
Sort of a broad question I know. I have recently gotten back into some MMO playing with GW2 and Secret World Legends after having stayed out of MMOs since 2015. I bought a month of Patron status on SWL and decided I'd be willing to sub an MMO again with the game that provides the most for a sub fee. What are your suggestions?

There are very few games today that have a mandatory sub - which makes your question doubly hard.

First peoples idea of worth and value vary from individual to individual. Second there have been some serious additions to the ranks of games that can be played without a sub with the launch - or re-launch - of games like The Division, Destiny, Elder Scrolls Online.

So I think - once you find a game you like - you need to try it without a sub first. If it provides enough entertainment maybe you don't need to sub. If its "to restricted" then consider trying it with sub. (Assuming you like the game enough of course).

As to what game - well trawl through the forums: Archeage, Black Desert Online, Blade & Soul (micro-transaction orientated). Destiny and The Division. The Elder Scrolls Online and The Secret World (re launches with paid DLC rather than updates).

EVE still gives you access to all content including updates  for the price of a sub.

I think Final Fantasy 14 provides a decent amount of content for the $15 monthly sub fee.

WoW never disappoints me.  At the rate I consume content, I never see everything before the next expansion is out.  I am a content sloth.

There's no DLC in SWL, it's a cash shop f2p game. All updates will be free.

Secret World Classic is still run along side Secret World Legends and the devs have confirmed they will continue to work on The Secret World Classic as well. So if they are talking about the original Secret World, yes; it has DLC.

As for my preferred paid MMO, I play Final Fantasy XIV. The updates are frequent and they add new story quite often. Stormblood just launched and they already added a new story quest on top of the Stormblood expansion not even a few weeks into launch. Content comes quickly for Final Fantasy XIV. But that's just my personal preference.

Project Gorgon,it is free.No it is not Triple A but then again none of these games are.
If i was forced to pay for one, then yeah FFXIV would be the game but then i would likely play FFXI over that but seeing how i spent years playing,i am sort of bored now.

Sure wish one game could get all aspect done well from classes,to combat to system depth, unique types of crafting instead of instant results.I would also like to see one game treat every level with respect  where as most games give you level 1-5 in about 2 minutes, they make a mock of their own game.

So for value and if looking for something a tad different ,Gorgon is good for now.

Still running, but who knows for how long... and nope, if you ment the Scott answer to Suzie a few days ago, there was no such thing in it.
"The community that are continuing to play the classic version of the game is definitely still important to us and that’s also why we’re going to keep the game up for as long as there is interest for it."  No words about any work on TSW, just that not closing it until there are a few players still inside who could raise some negative attention after a closure
(but they make the access harder with the client breaks, and no new players can get in, so it won't be long I guess... but around a dozen players are still used to hang in there any time I check)

Back to topic, I'd love to say LotRO, especially for a new player sub gives a massive amount. But the longer you play, and the more content you own, the sub's "worth" goes down a lot... and you also can play for totally free even, if you don't mind the grind.
So, as much as I don't like it and don't play it, objectively I guess Unclean's right with wow.

You don't consider WoW and FFXIV AAA titles?  We must have different definitions of what that means, then.

I would have to go with Eve Online, not that there aren't other P2P MMO's that are also good VFM, and while i rate it higher than FFXIV:ARR, its just because Eve gives you everything with that sub fee, there are no expansions you have to buy to stay current. I don't think there is any other game that gives you as much as Eve does without charging extra, but then, Eve is real ;)

Thanks for the replies. I did some quick research before checking back here and I had already decided to put FFXIV and ESO on the list. In fact FFXIV came up a lot in terms of AAA value for a sub. While I am enjoying SWL right now, I may have to give one of these a go. I must say I was disappointed SWL doesn't give Patrons some Aurum the way ESO and LOTRO give subs in game currency. On the other hand, I got a drop from a SWL cache that is worth $10-$15 in Aurum going by auction prices and exchange rates so maybe it works out?

If lifetime subs count, I have one with TSW and one with STO. I have no regular subs but have been thinking about getting one for ESO. Been playing it a lot lately and everytime I play it I have great adventures.

I just got patron status a few days ago in SWL.  I was just going to play the game for free but  I have really been reaping the benefits of the sub.  Like you, I also got a very nice drop which makes the sub justifiable for me as well.   I am really enjoying SWL right now but other MMO games I also play are GW2, SWTOR, FF XIV,  and Diablo 3 (although not really a MMO).  Of all those games, won't include SWL since its still early, the best bang for the buck is FF XIV in terms of a sub, with SWTOR being a better value than people realize if you like the game.   I tried ESO on many occasions and stayed around but the game is missing something and doesn't immerse me at all.  Its missing something big for me.  Right now SWL is lots of fun and I am having a blast.

That's easy, for me: Vendetta Online; no box price, no paid xpacs, just a monthly sub that ranges from $6.67 - $10 depending on what denominations you buy in.  Free trial, too.

Darkfall is only 10$ and once in the game it only takes a few hours of grinding to come up with enough to buy another sub in game... so yeah ridiculously good deal for the amount of time everyone puts into it.

Wurm is as well. I think as a property owner I was paying $6 a month and had a medium sized plot.
