Hope it does well. Still never got around to playing it after all these years. Not too keen on the price options so it's unlikely that will change. But it's a good game though. I'd play it if I wasn't playing anything else.

You can just start playing it for free. Then when/if you decide you want to progress further buy the next area, so on and so forth. So really starting out is not expensive at all. I guess it depends on what type of player you are. If you're bit of a completionist it would take a good amount of time before you needed to worry about getting the Mordor xpac.
Is it pricy? Yeah! But SSG have decided to keep LOTRO (and DDO) running in spite of reletively low player numbers. If those players want quality updates they better get used to paying for it. Content costs to develop.
Look at it like a Kickstarter thing. You are paying overprice to get the game you want. I find it funny how people are happy to pay a lot for a dream, but actaul tangible playable content to a game you enjoy? "Should be free or close to." Bah...
I hope SSG goes balls to the wall with the Ravenloft expansion for DDO, and yeah, i'll pay nearly whatever they want for it. For all its flaws I still enjoy DDO a lot more than most newer and "better" MMO's out there. And yeah, i'll pay a premium for that to live on.
Seeing comments like this I can say that those who earlier wrote "$15 for necro DLC is worth it" now should also write "$39.99/$79.99/$129.99 is worth it".

Anyone?
Oh you and your agenda.
I'll probably get this at some point after reviews of Mordor come out. I've got stacks of currency saved up for just such a thing. Unfortunately, I don't play LOTRO regularly and will only pony up the real world dollars for games I'm involved in actively, like Diablo 3.

I think thats the problem with this kind of thing, its one thing to fork out cash for whichever game is your main, but for something thats just a casual drop in and out of kind of thing, its a lot of money to pay out, which i can imagine will have a great many other 'casual' players wondering if its worth it or not.
Top level will be 115 now. Well they don't have to worry about me buying any expansion for quite a while, I don't have any character close to the current 105 level. I still play this game though, it has far more content than any other MMO on the market. Yes, you can buy a bump in level, but all the fun is in experiencing the content.
I've played off and on since the game came out and won't pay those prices for occasional play. Perhaps an Xmas or New years day sale on down the line, I'm in no hurry.

My only question is: why are you surprised by this? Normal prices I see with any other game. Why so much heat when Lotro wants to sell its product for this much but its ok for others to charge similar amount? LOTRO isnt dead like many think it is. Pretty active community. I think you get a lot for 130 bucks. Probably be very close to that amount if you bought things separately with their store.

wait so if you want to role as a high elf you have to pay $80+ for the expansion?... lol sorry but with that money i can get a full game with more content, higher quality and still have spare money left.
I don't play this game but man... If lotro fans are OK with this just because its lotr IP i feel sorry for their wallet.
Of course this applies to anyone who wants to do this type of one sided business.

Keep in mind that it's now a game published by DBG. In the pas SOE allowed you to use your SOE points to buy EQ expansions and that was canceled to fork out more money from their players. It would not surprise me if DBG/SSG will do the same with this expansion...

I know this is a popular assumption, that DBG has replaced WB in the LOTRO universe. But until I see the actual agreement between DBG and SSG showing that DBG owns a piece of LOTRO/DDO and is entitled to make certain decisions, I'm not biting. We all know how ineffectual publishers are with developers (Trion/AA, for example), where the publisher makes requests of the dev, and maybe it gets done and maybe it doesn't. Yet, here we are assuming just the opposite with SSG/DBG.
We're six months out from SSG's creation and neither LOTRO nor DDO appear on the Daybreak site under "Games" and there are no news articles, press or twitter related to either game. This doesn't look to me like these games are in the Daybreak stable.
So whatever it is that Daybreak is doing for LOTRO, it's doing it very, very quietly.
Time to man up and realize that the decisions being made are all on SSG.
I started playing LoTRO during the friends and family alpha. Had received my invite from good ole Tiggs. If you remember the name she was with SOE and was a customer support person for Star Wars Galaxies. When she was let go for whatever the reason was, I can't remember she got a job at Turbine. I gladly took a chance after paying for 3 subs of SWG monthly the $199 for a Lifetime sub. So I no longer had to give them money and still to this day get 500 points a month. I have just shy of 15000.
I bought the Collector's edition of SoA and Mines of Moria. I even preordered the Mirkwood xpac. The next xpacs I picked up with Points.
With that said $129.99 is quite steep and I don't think they can really justify that pricing. I would have expected $99.99 but even then you get some sort of physical stuff. So with that I bring down my price to a respectful $79.99 for the top edition. for the lowest I probably would have went $19.99 (you get more bees with honey that with vinegar) and the middle $39.99 to $49.99 somewhere in that range. I think people would of still moaned, those would be the millennial generation that feel that they shouldn't have to pay anything.

Since you _can_ buy EQ2 expansions with daybreak cash, I guess there is no worry.
You can't buy it a new expansion right away though, you have to wait about 6 months. But it _is_ possible to get it with daybreak cash.
I find it amusing people are complaining about the costs of fluff. The expansion is 39.99 ... just like WoW and many other games. The other tiers are friggin' fluff tiers. Don't wanna pay? DO NOT BUY those tiers! Is it really that hard to comprehend? Not trying to be mean, but jeez ...
One element that goes into deciding on the "launch price" will be how much will the "sale price" be. They will have created a financial model with a plan to sell so many copies at the various full prices and then so many at 25/40/50/75% off. And then some for points as well of course.
Anyone know what DBGs "publishing" involvement is yet?
Face palm... I came in at launch, many moons ago. I must say that its been a fun game, but with its ups and downs. Now that Turbine is history, I was hoping things would get better. SSG has stated that the estate agreement/renewal is a "non issue", I just hope they are right.

How old are you, again?
Also this is about necro DLC and every kind of cash grab in the industry.
That being said, people praising necro price and bashing Mordor pricing are funny looking folks.

Yup. I'll say it. Worth it. In both cases.

I have a life, its just different from yours.....
So, with clear conscience I will say, that you're an accessory of destroying this industry.
"Thank you" for this, because it's also affecting my gaming hobby.

So I have no real problem waiting till this winter to get the xpac for points. It is not like I don't spend on collector's editions and I am already getting a lot of them for the consoles I have. Here is the latest Grand daddy -- http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-one/games/middle-earth-shadow-of-war-mithril-edition-only-at-gamestop/143082
