Well I decided to start slow and cheap, so I bought Fallout New Vegas.
I've got about 25 games on my steam watch list mostly of the games you guys gave me waiting on good deals.
Also downloaded that free game on GOG, Jotun?
I'd be interested to know your "25" list, out of curiosity
Sure, let me reorder it, right now it's just in the order I added them.
I actually added to it by hitting the recommended for you button and going through the list...about 35 or 40 times. (Was quite a project)
I compared it to the consolidated list I got from here, crossing out the matches.
I learned not all games are on Steam (like EA or Blizzard titles) so they have to be added in manually.
In case you didn't know about Origin, their yearly membership is not a bad a deal at all if you want to play all those DA or ME games for free as they are included. If I remember correctly it's $15 / year.
Yep, Origin is a pretty nice deal, especially for your situation where you probably have not played any of the free games they give you.
You could also try Star Wars: Battlefront for free to see if you have any interest in shooter-type games. It's not the same as Overwatch, but you could pretty easily find out if you're allergic to FPS games.
I agree. Origins honestly gets a bad rap. It is just as good as steam and in some ways I prefer it tbh. The membership is also great if you haven't played the games offered with the sub. You can try out most and even some newer games with 10 hour limits and etc.
Because they were as bad as Uplay. They rap have a basis. Is not random hate. But they were the first to introduce solid refund policies. So they worked on it, they applied some sort of quality insurance unlike Steam in which is the same old store full with all kinds of weird (and sometimes useless) stuff.
That's the key word here "were". Origins started off bumpy for sure. Now it rivals Steam and only gets hate because it's EA.
I don't know what it is about Origins, but my games download super fast. Steam is fast as well, but Origins tends to DL faster. Maybe because steam has a larger base that DLs more games. The interface could use a bit of work. But I prefer the way the game library UI on Origins over steam. I also like the free games that Origins gives out now and then. I got Dead Space 2, Jade Empire and a couple others with the "On the house" specials they give out every once in a while.
I think people should it give another chance if they haven't used it since launch. Its improved a lot since that time.
Long ago and far away I created an Origin account, but haven't logged in for many years.
I think I set it up because I bought DAO when it first came out. I never got very far in that game, was too into MMOs at the time.
Always wondered what I did with that game forgetting it might have been one of my earliest only digital game purchases.
Will have to login to Origins and see if it's out there.

I use different countries for steam downloads .The speed is better than what I get in Italy I use Australia may be because Australians have to pay so much for their gigs that when you connect from overseas to their servers you get very good speeds because the locals are afraid to use it too much

For me, bandwidth is about 10 megabytes a second (100 megabits I believe). If you are sharing that with other people who use things like Netflix and youtube then you have to worry about how much bandwidth you are using. Steam has download limiter that can restrict download speed. I usually set it to 5 megabytes per second as that is fast enough. I am also able to backup the game to an external hard disk drive. When loading the game from there it is much faster. Origin doesn't have such a thing built in. You have to use a third party program to restrict it. The other issue is that I don't really like any EA games other than Mass Effect and the best Mass Effect games are 1 and 2 IMO. They are both on Steam.
i have said it before I'll say it again they make games, movies tv shows everything average just good enough so you would buy but not great cause they don't care you are called useless eaters, containers ecs. by the scum that runs this world, bread and circuses for the masses to keep them just happy enough so they don't riot and destroy the scum that rules over you.

I'll have to try this out. How do you tell steam to use different countries for download?
I have 100mb fibre to the home and I'm wired in, but I top out at around 12mb download from steam. My housemates can download from steam simultaneously, so combined we can get 36mb so it's not a bandwidth issue our end, just seems to be a limit from steam itself. Speed tests suggest out actual connection tops out around 78mb/s

Check to see if your connection is megabits or megabytes. There is a large difference between the two. I also believe that speed test uses megabits. One is MBps and the other is Mbps I believe.
Well....was going to do it last night but started playing Fallout New Vegas and ..
Had the wife waking me up in the recliner and telling me to go to bed around 12:30 am.
I'm so weak these days, used to raid until 1:30 am with no problem back in the day...well except that one time I wiped the raid on Onyxia when I dead sticked into her while folks were getting ready. -1000 DKP.

So, finally the moment almost no one was waiting for, my top 25 Steam list. I've only prioritized the top 5, the rest are TBC.
Likely I'll buy most of them as they come on sale on Steam or at GOG where I've actually purchased the 1st two so far.
Just picked up Divinity: Original Sin today for $15.99. Already going down the road to hell of building a library of unplayed games as I also have Jotun: Valhalla Edition on the list as well.
Of course, this list is subject to change without notice. Also, just as a FYI, I'm having a great time playing Fallout: NV, stayed up last night until 5:00 am, wife woke up to go to work and said its been a very long time since she saw me up all night gaming.
She isn't wrong.
Thanks again to everyone for their great suggestions in helping me get back into single player gaming, will provide updates from time to time on which ones I enjoy the most.
1) Fallout: New Vegas 2) Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition 3) XCOM: Enemy Unknown 4) Swords and Sorcery - Underworld - Definitive Edition 5) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 6) Civilization VI 7) Stardew Valley 8) Endless Space 2 9) Fallout 4 10) Divinity: Original Sin 2 11) Total War: Warhammer 12) Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut 13) Pillars of Eternity 14) XCOM 2 15) Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition 16) Darkest Dungeon 17) Distant Worlds: Universe 18) Legend of Grimrock 2 19) Massive Chalice 20) Prison Architect 21) Kerbal Space Program 22) Grim Dawn 23) Endless Space 24) The Witcher: Enhanced Edition 25) Total War: Warhammer II

I seem to find faults with most games today. I'm finding most of the RPGs are a bit longer than I would like. There is a lot of content, but most of it isn't of a very high quality and it gets repetitive due to that. I often wish that companies would focus on quality over quantity.
Games I have enjoyed are The Witcher 1, 2, 3 (The first game is a lot of fun but has somewhat bad combat. The second game is quite good overall aside from the very start IMO. The third game is good, but a little long due to the open world. It still has good side quests despite this. I still prefer the 1st and 2nd games to the 3rd games even though it has better combat)
Mass Effect 1, 2 (I still enjoy playing these games. ME1 holds up really well considering it's age and there is a mod to add controller support. ME2 may be the best Mass Effect game IMO and can also be modded to add controller support. They are always fun to play through.
Baldur's Gate EE 1, 2 (Has a lot of reading, but they are still good games)
Knights of the Old Republic 1/2 (The first game is a little difficult if you like controllers as it doesn't have controller support, but you can use a program like a controller companion to play it. They are still surprisingly fun to play IMO)
Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning (has a lot of dialogue which can sometimes get annoying, but great atmosphere)
Skyrim (The side quests are better than the main quest)
Far Cry 3 (This is the only Far Cry game I have really liked as the story is fairly entertaining IMO)
Grand Theft Auto 5 (The dialogue is a bit lewd and driving around can take a while, but there are a large variety of things to do (golf, driving, flying, darts, biking, running, etc.))
LA Noire (Has a pretty good atmosphere if you like detective games set in the 50s (possibly earlier))
Shadowrun Returns (A little slow paced and a lot of reading, but it still can be fun. The story in the first game is fairly good IMO. I had more difficulty getting into the second game and haven't played the third).
Resident Evil 7 (I think it's a good game. It is a bit creepy though and can promote paranoia similar to the original)
Saints Row 4 (I thought this was a fun game, but I am a fairly big fan of the original Matrix movie and this was clearly modeled after that, but in a more humorous way) Left for Dead 2 (A pretty good game, but can be addictive in multiplayer mode. It also has a lot of non-stop killing)
Uncharted 1, 2, 3, 4 (You can also play all the Uncharted games on PS Now via your PC. It is streaming, but the games are really good IMO)
Bioshock 1, 2, 3 (I haven't beaten 1 and 2 so far, but all of these games have great atmosphere)
Sniper Elite 4 (A bit violent and non-stop killing, but fairly well done)
Splinter Cell Conviction (A lot of people who are fans of the Splinter Cell games didn't like this one, but I enjoyed it much more than the others in the series. I thought it had an entertaining story, atmosphere, and stealth combat)
Dark Souls 1, 2, 3 (They are fun and challenging games with good atmosphere, but I don't like the grinding much. I guess I'm getting too old for the grind)
I enjoyed a few older games over the years like Warcraft 1, 2, 3 and Diablo 1, 2, but I'm not sure how they would hold up without some type of remastering. I haven't played them in a long time.
