I have never played Guild Wars but I heard that it isn't strictly an MMO. That it does not have a huge, expansive, living world where everyone is playing and participating as in WoW. I heard you go from a town to an instance but there is no real world to explore in between.
The seamless, expansive world environment of WoW is the main reason I like it so much. Playing WoW is truly like entering an alternate, living universe that you are free to roam and explore at will. And the place is HUGE

The world is somewhat limited atm, but it takes time to unlock every town and city within the game GW.
Quests will often take you to new towns/cities, which require from 30 mins to maybe an hour or so of exploring. Once you reach a location though, you can instantly teleport there via in-game map.
If you play the game a lot, you should unlock most if not all of the locations in 2-3 weeks of time, and reach lvl 20 in the process.
