if you walk into a room filled with assholes and call them assholes that is being part of the problem, not the solution, when it comes to the question of a toxic community. PEROID end of story.

If you walk into a room full of assholes and call them assholes, and then fill out the application and buy stuff from their cash-shop you become a trusted member of the asshole community.

one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us, one of us.

"Now listen close assholes, we need a shit ton of money and we've got a hole heap of stretch goal ready to go for the next Telethon!"

    Whale Assholes say:

And the devs keep hustling the assholes.

    I agree, It's a cult of assholes.

Are you kidding?  What we're doing is just free advertising for those guys... if everyone that left that game just forgot about the game and kept on moving, that game would have died a couple years ago.  But alas, we're all waiting for the finishing move, the money shot as it were.

I hold no illusion that any of my critiques or criticisms make any difference in the game for better or worse, in fact my comments and satire probably just embolden the whales to keep spending.

I'll be here watching the cult until launch day, I'm not about to leave now - there's an entire third act on the way!

The cult like behaivor and the scamming is real.

This is happening in real time right now.  Here's one of the Portalarium Executives telling everyone to give more money during telethons... this is the message he sends after "cleaning up" the seedinvest thread of posts that had legitimate questions and concerns about the financial position of the company.

It's also kinda sketchy that one of the board members for Portalarium is also a board member for SeedInvest.  And SeedInvest did the $25M valuation for Portalarium.  Angel Investors aren't  rushing to get in on the action here either... If you do your due diligence and review all of the companies publicly available financial documents you're going to find red flags and wtf? feelings.  Which is also why they've only just limped over the 500k mark after 2 months of very active campaigning and there are still $1.5M in shares remaining to sell in the next 3 days.

People with real questions and real concerns are censored.  Whales that spend money on rares for RMT are encouraged to keep spending.  Their business model is sound... and 100% reprehensible.

note:  Travaian is their new publisher, but two months ago when they launched the SeedInvest campaign they did so because THEY WANTED TO BE THEIR OWN PUBLISHER!

it doesnt matter if its real or not.
Religion is a cult so that assertion is really unimpressive.

The question is, does is calling people a cult become part of the toxic behavior or is it part of the higher ground behavior?

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, flies like a duck, looks like a duck, eats like a duck, and has the same DNA as a duck, then people shouldn't be criticized for calling it a duck.

The term cult is being used as a descriptor when warning potential buyers away from this sham of a project, and given the behavior of the community at large, it's perfectly valid. I'd also like to point out that the word itself isn't inherently positive or negative; it's the people associated with the term who determine that. Nothing toxic about it at all.

I played Shroud of the Avatar with Richard Garriott: the cult of Lord British is alive and well

Shroud of the Avatar official website links this article... and in the article it says:

"We played online, from the E3 show floor, and when Garriott said hi in-game to a Kickstarter backer, I got a glimpse at the cult of Lord British that still exists to this day."

As the great SotA developer Chris Spears would say.... SUCK IT!

that has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with what I am saying.

your still fixated on the question of is it is cult or not and for the 4th time I am saying IT DOES NOT MATTER if its a cult or not.

i think your obbsession with trying to proove that its a cult is to convince yourself, becuase it should be clear by now that in regards to my point it doesnt matter and I dont give a fuck if its actually a cult or not.

I have no idea what you're talking about.  I genuinely believed we were talking about whether or not SotA was a cult... because they are you wanted to know how that would work out in two weeks.

Seriously, if we're not talking about the Cult of Richard then I really have no idea what's going on here in this thread right now.

no we are NOT talking about whether or not they are a cult or not.

I am suggesting to you that if your motivation is to have a good community calling them a cult is not going to help you toward your goal REGARDLESS of if they are a cult or not.

I have zero interest in this game, and I know nothing whatsoever about the community itself, yet I can still make the observation that calling someone a cult REGARDLESS if they are or not is not productive to making a community good. It is in fact (for that goal) actually causing the problem rather than solving it

Ooooohhhhh.  I see. You're just going all SJW on the fact that it was suggested the SotA community was a cult.  Dude, it is.  And they even embrace it.  PC Gamer wrote an article calling them a cult in 2014 and they (Portalariu) linked the article on their official website.  They're totally a cult and they love it.

You're welcome to see this as derogatory, but it's not.  People that play SotA being lumped into a cult status is a benign and technical observation.  They make their own cult a poor example through their actions and people end up thinking of them as a cult of assholes.  Still, it's a technical point in the conversation and not something that is intended to be derogatory.

Now, if you did know something of the community we'd might be able to talk about their extremist views on things such as RMT and gaming as it applies to anything Richard.  And extremism is another technical review of their observed collective behaviors.  They are genuinely fanatics in the most accurate definition of the word.

again, your trying to convince yourself that its a cult because for the 5th time I am telling you it does not matter either way to my point. Nor does any sense of justice. its a very basic fundamental issue of cause and effect. nothign more

you dont solve a problem of toxicity by walking into the enviroment and calling everyone cultists and posting a bunch of photos you think are funny REGARDLESS of if you are 100% correct or not. the effect will be counter to your desired objective and as such you will become the problem and not the solution

Their cult behaviors and extremist ways are well known to anyone that follows the game, for or against.  it's their own rhetoric that casts light on how awful and gullible they can be... talking about it can't make it any more of what it already is.

I found another reply in that thread interesting. The whales apparently are able to tell this team how to do their job and get rid of any negative comments lol. Its quite funny actually, the whales run this game anyways, always have. It's just funny seeing Berek basically " yes sir'ing this whale lol. no I think its totally cool to say that, it has nothing to do with poltically correct.

    its cause and effect.

As people have pointed out and you likely would agree I am an Amoral asshole, so its not a question of morality. its a question of 'best approach to achieve desired results'

what is the desire? a good community.
what is the process of doing that?
calling everyone in it cult members would not be the best approach REGARDLESS of if its true or not and REGARDLESS of morality.

you guys are far too hung up on morality and trying to proove that its true even though its not related to the point as if your really trying to be a special snowflake.

its not about morality and it doenst matter if its true. for the 6th time!
