Good Sci-Fi MMORPGS?

I know that this is probably a very trite question on these boards, but does anyone know of a good sci-fi MMO? Or atleast whether SWG, Jumpgate, or EVE is any good nowadays?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

That is depressing... I don't want to sit around and play all of these fantasy MMOs that exactly the same.

lol yup. i should of added this to my first post, but EvE seems to be getting a lot of attention, I THINK they're still having some type of trial that you should try before getting it. Hanvt tried jumpgate so i cant really give my opinion on that. SWG, like every other game, is getting boring, it feels like the main thing your suposed to do is grind in that game. but if your a starwars fan, check that one out.

Well... Jumpgate is becoming a very well polished game. It seems to be hitting over 100 at peak times most days. I was talking to a newbie or a returning player who used to play beta 6 and he said that this game is becoming a bit more polished.

Dispite the outdated graphics and the old players complaining about the GM management, it has a very tight knit community. Along with a bunch of 3rd party tools for the game which can be located over here(forum registration required I'm afraid for security issues). And if theres any question about the game you can simply post a message over at the link I provided.

God I hate it when people who don't even play a title comment on it.

Yes, SWG has gotten much better. The population is exploding right now as well due to the recent improvements to the game as well as interest generated by EPIII. Haven't seen this many people playing SWG since release... and no lag this time around.

The game is much better, more stable, less bugs, better balance, etc.

There are some good discussions about SWG on the Star Wars Galaxies forums here if you want more details.

EVE is also very good but it's a totally different feel from SWG.

Jumpgate isn't bad but the graphics are dated and you get to shoot fish in space... which kinda turned me off of it after about a month of fighting neon pink fish with no poly count whatsoever. PVP is ok in it but there are very few players online at any given time.

MxO was an all out failure :/ I'm waiting for it to get on the SOE All Access Pass before I even consider trying it out. I hear it's actually worse now than it was in Beta (not sure I buy that but hey... that's what the folks on the MxO forums are saying).

Hope this helps more than the drivvel the haters have fed ya.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

    Still in: A couple Betas

SWG isnt a bad game. I didnt like the controls and the UI. I tried the trial a year ago and the planet i was on seemed pretty bland. I've been thinking about giving it another go since there has been 2 more expansions but i dont really want to buy a game that i'm unsure of. I'll probably end up getting the total experience package since its out now but i'm still debating it in my head.

Don't bother with MxO. MxO is kinda like that old nintendo game Double Trouble. The graphics suck that bad. If you dont think graphics make a game thats fine too.. The mechanics of the game were the worst i ever saw.

Jumpgate was one of my first, and one of my favourite games.  European server will be closing shortly, and the US server was dead the last time I checked ( few months ago)  It is or it was a very PvP orientated game,  but it had one of the closest knit communities I've ever experienced. Here's some alternatives.

    Neocron2

This is a 'cyberpunk' type game,  just in re-release they have a trial, and its really not a bad game if you can find a server thats populated enough... graphics are dated, and the developers leave a lot to be expected.  in its day, this was a very fun game PvP and PvE but now the community is abandoning it, and without a strong community, its no longer the game it was.

    Star wars galaxies -

I came back to this after the combat upgrade (read - complete re-design) and it is surprisingly fun.  It is skill based, and it does feature alot of PvP.  Server populations are generally very high, and the community is relatively strong.  My only pet hate on swg is the amount of jedi that seem to populate the world now.

    Eve-online -

This is more of a sim than a game.  Has a unique skill system where your skills train in realtime while you are sleeping.  It has one of the most advanced economical systems I have ever seen, and the research/manufacturing is really quite sweet.  This game is huge, and it has PvP.  peaks at about 11,000 players (active at one time ) so you'll always find someone to play with. But as I said, its more a sim than a game.

    Tabula Rasa

this may be one for you to wait on, looks very action based, may very well be fun.  But I feel that Ncsoft really have thrust the dagger in Mr Garriotts back, so I for one won't be playing it.

    Project Entropia

free to play, the premise is that ingame currency equates to real life currency, e.g 10 Project entropia dollars = 1 US$ Its an interesting concept, and an interesting game,  Its almost cyberpunk in genr
