I have to say, even considering that it's early access, I wasn't captivated.

Dark and light I played quite a bit and I have my own server for Conan Exiles but this game didn't grab me.

And that's a shame as the subject matter, the theme, is excellent.

I didn't like the addition of quests and it is my hope that one could ignore them and still progress.

Also, the avatars felt "cheap". Again, early access but given how they are implemented they just seem "cheap". Both Conan Exiles and Dark and Light's avatars felt a bit better, more went into them.

These almost felt a bit like Shroud of the Avatar's "Avatars".

I think what inspired me to play more, to explore more in Conan and Dark and Light was that I was plopped right down and had to find my own way. I can easily say that Conan Exiles has a very nice intro that gives you just enough back story so you understand your place in the world but not so much that it bogs the player down in creating their own narrative.

With Valnir Rock (again just first impressions) I was already finding a fellow seaman dying on the shore. He gives me a stone that he desires to be taken to a shrine and already I'm looking for the glowy bit on my map and I'm part of someone else's narrative once again.

I did decide to break free from that for a bit but didn't really find anything that pulled me in. Finally, I went to the shrine (I still hadn't created any clothing as of yet) and was in my skivvies when one of the other players was was essentially talking in chat "just to talk" walks up to me and says "hello naked guy".

Had it just been that it would have been fine but watching his talking for the sake of talking in chat just broke that final straw and I logged out.

I'm going to wait wee bit and update and see if I can give it another, and perhaps more fair, go of it.
