Minecraft - How to find a server?

Hey folks, I'm finallllllly going to try Minecraft.  I want to try playing on an active, social, PvE server to start.  How do I find one that is legit?  If you Google "Minecraft servers," there are tons of sites that all claim to be the #1 MC server list.  Thanks!

Thanks!  I just don't want to pick a P2W or virus server, if that's even a thing.

Ive not had any trouble from the hmm 8 or so servers i set up for my kid..

          Now i gotta get him to stop griefing people and getting banned from them

How do you grief people??  I would prefer to play on a non-PvP server to start.

   He kills them , so if a Scorchien kills you its my 6 year old son

 There are servers with out it tho
