Basically Planetside and WWII Online are two increadibly different games. I have not played planetside but I have read about it and seen reviews.  Planetside is a run and gun shooter game much like Battlefield 1942, WWII Online has basically nothing in common with a run a gun shooter game. WWII Online is more like a simulation game, similar to Combat Flight Simulator in a way but spread across all different parts of WWII. In general Planetside and 1942 are shooters with lots of non stop action but not much tactics. WWII Online is all tactics, Lone wolfs get nothing done. You won't see any one bunny hopping or getting magically repaired because another player has a wrench in their hand, its more of simulation game not really a shooter, I really don't even consider it an FPS.

Bottom Line:If you like the WWII Realism in BF1942 then the game is not for you.

What he said, if you like fast paced action then WWIIonline isnt really for you, if you like fast paced action i'd go for planetside. in WW2Online, preparing for a battle/mission can take upto 30 to 45 mins.

    Banzai!

To me planetside was alot like Battlefield, more teamwork but pretty much the same and you have to pay for it.

hey, this is random but, whats the difference between WW2O and Day of Defeat/BF1942? I know it's a dumb question but how is the game that different? image

ww2online has 350.000 square miles wihtout zones, you have an am you fight for to win the campaign. you can attack towns or villages, capture bunkers, depots, flags and harbours, airports..

the game goes more into realistic features like huge damage modell, so u dont have only a certain point system for tanks instead they have weak spots u need to aim like in real life.

what is really cool in this game that u have combined arms, so u see air fights over your head, tanks and vehicles moving close to you and infantry is running around ahead.

battlefield 2 is only a fast short game with mini maps but no really goal to achieve, in ww2online u have a goal to win the whole campaign or get towns.

okay...so heres another question...does it have long lasting appeal, and is it possible for one to to cpture everything on the map? also what about lag and the community?is it high system requirements? the community looks really good......so is it worth the 14.99 per month??? thats really expensive.....can u get like 6 months for 12.99?

i think this game is perfect for me cus i love creating tactics, and thats what i hated about bf 1942 was that people would just go loner and there was no strategy at all unless u were doing clan matches which i loved.....Now what i wanna feel is that if me and my teamates capture a base, will it feel like an acheivement? Or 20 minutes later it gets overrun and captured?

alone you have no chance to cap a town thats not possible only if on the other side would be no people playing image ww2online is  team based game and only together with all players u can win.

if you capture villages or towns it is of course an achievement, sometimes if you are lucky u have a village maybe in 1 hour but sometimes towns take several hours if not 1-2 days to ge them, so in most of the cases dont worry u loose your captured town or village in the next 20 minutes.

a whole campaign takes around average 1-2 months, it is really different each campaign sometimes campaign is quick and we had one or 2 campaigns they took 3 months lol but such long campaigns is more or less rare.

i think it has a long lasting apeal cause u have really to learn every equipment, unit, vehicle,...to master it and still lots of great skilled players around, learning curve is very steep at the beginning so dont think u will be a here when u start the game, you will die the first days or weeks a lot really a lot.

this game is different than action games like bf42, you need more patient here. you need watch your area cause your enemies dont have any names or colours over their heads, sometimes u die and u dont know why, maybe u was running through open area and didnt use cover...many things u need to learn. the game is in comparison to bf42 more a long distance fighting game, you have view over several thousand meter and it needs patient to control area and watch enemy activities.

sometimes u have lag like in every game, the current game versione wheras needs really good performance pc much ram and cpu. due to the new release end of the year crs still throwing patch after patch and they are fixing performance problems.

the game is not perfect but it is really fun if you like battles with more realistic damage modells and combined forces. you can download the full version and try it offline just to test all units, the game has not fantastic graphics but they do their job.

Long lasting appeal? Well I don't know. I have only played continouosly since August 2002 when the open Mac-beta was launched.

Can you capturing everything?: Only when you spawn as an infantry (there is seven different classes of them) can you capture a flag. A Chokepoint (village, town or major city) has a number of Flag buildings (Depots, Armybases, Docks, Airfield and Civilian facilities like Factories and RR-stations). Only Infantry can capture them, but they need Tanks and Aircover to get their. The smallest CP's has only 1 AB, 2 Depots (which is linked to adjectent CP's) and a "City Flag" (which has no vital meaning less then you need to capture it). The biggest cities like Antwerp has 4 AB, 1 AF, 4 Docks, 4 Factories, 4 RR-Stations and 8 Depots. It can take days to settle a fight over Antwerp as well as other great cities.

Also, Antwerpen and other CP's has bridges. All bridges in WWIIOL can be blown as well as they can be repaired again. Pretty keen don't you say.

Is it worth $14.99? Well I have contributed $1000 to the developers (which also gave me a lifetime subscription) so I would definitely say $15/month is worth it.::::24:: Anyway, if you pay enough in advance can you get your subscription down to less then $8.50/month (12 months?). Since I started to play WWIIOL have I noticed that most other games just bores me. I don't know what it is, but I guess they seems to unrealistic and pointless for me.

If a capturing of a CP will feel like an achivement? Hell YES! But be prepared that the defenders wont give it away for nothing. It often takes several hours to take a town. And if it is well defended can it take much longer. It all depends on how well prepered you and your men are, if you has the numbers to cut off the defenders re-supply lines. To be victorious must you attriate the defenders spawn list (a lost vehicle takes 4.5 hours to be replaced in the spawnlist). The defenders most effecient way to prevent this is to drive up new equipment from CP's at the rear.

To capture a CP must you first set an Attack objective on the CP (which will alert the defenders that something is about to happen there). You can't capture anything until after 20 minutes. Then when you have captured your first depot and you have been able to hold at least one depot continouosly in 20 minutes (you can lose the first one as long as you have captured a second depot before you lost the first one) will you be able to capture the Armybase (as well as any present Airfield and Dock). However, if you capture an AB and the defenders takes it back before you have taken all flags will they get a FULL spawn list (which would be a major disaster). So the AB should always be taken as the final capture.

Does it sound complicated. Don't worry. The guys will help you come around ingame. Just let them know you are new to the game, and they will give you all assistance you need.::::39::

Btw, at the moment is there some 480 CP's, stretching from Colonge and Düsseldorf in East to Hastings and Dieppe in West in 1:2 of the real world covering more then 28.000 squarekilometer.

There is no integrated voice comms, but if you chose to join a squad, both sides have dedicated teamspeak servers. See you on the battlefield and remember to click play axis::::40::
