I'm enjoying it, but I think its a bit overrated. The first DOS was extremely innovative, and while this one might take some steps forward, it also introduced some changes that don't seem that good to me.
The biggest issue is the combat; it kind of feels like a step back in some key ways. For example, the new armor/magic armor system basically forces you to take a party of either all physical damage dealers or all magic damage dealers backed by support skills (magic or physical).
Don't want to sound like a negative nancy though Its a blast and definitely one of the best crpgs ever made, but it hasn't grabbed me to the extent Dragon's Dogma, Dragon Age Origins, or Witcher 3 did.
A well built (and used) DPS character will shred the entire armor (physical or magical depending of build) of an enemy in its first turn except for a few bosses. You don't need to go all physicals or all magical.
? I am not sure what difference that makes. Even if you are strong enough to do that, assuming one character strips the magic armor, the next character will have to do magic damage to reduce the mob's health, or use magic-based cc to control the mob. Therefore it is better to stack the same-type of damage so that you can reliably kill and keep the mobs under control.
Also, while I have only played 30 hours so far, I am certainly not able to remove all the armor in one turn of many mobs (and most fights I am outnumbered). So yes maybe at some point I will be so OP that the game mechanics don't mean anything, but even in your example it is still far better to have another damage dealer or cc of the same type to follow up with.
Not sure what classes you have picked but mix and match them and combat will be fun. I have 2 melee and 2 magic. 1 melee uses 2h warfare+necro (heal+summon), another uses daggers scoundrel+huntsman+necro (heals+summon), 1 magic dual wands pyro+geo (magic+buffer), another magic staff aero+hydro (heals+stuns+shields). I only had trouble in fight against alexander, that stupid worm came out of nowhere, so far. Also leech talent is very good.
Coming to the mobs if you notice can see melee type mobs have low magic shields and magic type mobs have low physical shields. Beat down the magic types fast and combat will go smoothly.
I didn't say it wasn't fun, I said some of the combat mechanics seemed a step back from the first game because it funnels you into using damage of one type. I also think the fields are over the top in this instalment, DOS1 seemed more strategic.
Most of my gaming friends have left the games they are currently playing to play this game. I get at least one communication a day to come play it. I continue to hear such good things about this game. I will definitely be giving it a go some time in the near future. I really like what everyone has said as it seems to be a game right up my alley.
