The upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will have loot boxes, including gameplay enhancing perks. These come in a variety of rarities, ranging from Tier 1 to Tier 4. The lower tiers include things like new skills, 10% cooldown reduction, and 5% damage boost across the board. Tier 4 gives you perks like invulnerability when using ultimate skills, 50% increased weapon recharge, 30% damage boost or 50% increased HP.
Your character levels are not based on time spent playing, but on the total number of cards you own. This, in theory, allows you to spend an unlimited amount of money on loot boxes on Day 1, getting a huge advantage over those who do not spend anything.
How do people feel about this? To me, this is the worst gaming news in a long while. I am a passionate Star Wars fan and was excited about Battlefront 2 (which seems to be a great game, by others' accounts), but this implementation of loot boxes is the worst one I can think of.

No matter if you like AJ or TB or whatever youtuber, at least they are spreading information to hopefully one day make a difference in gaming and these BS pay to win microtransactions. I'm sure EA lost quite a few sales from their videos, and while most people probably still buy it...one day these companies will go too far and even the whales of gaming will have had enough.

Sry about my comment, I was trying to goad someone else and shouldn't have.
I don't know what I find worse micro transactions in a single player game or micro transactions that are beyond cosmetic ones in a pvp centric game. Probably the latter.

the payment that is the f2p model that is not really f2p, and more like p2w.

edit: well I guess SW BF 2 has servers to maintain.
And they will make money because Star Wars + Whales = $$
Whales operate by their own logic, so don't try to figure it out. Just don't buy the game if you don't like it. This is not the game you're looking for.
I don't care if it changes, the fact is they have already TRIED to open the door on an unbelievable cash shop system, that aims to rip off customers and ruin the game at the same time.
The intelligent people said 10 years ago that we can't let cash shops into our games, devs will push them into deeper water over time until people stop caring.
I won't stop caring, they can shove this game up their ass.
The Brit mentions that perhaps it is time to change the laws. That time was long ago,the regulatory commissions need to fire themselves because they don't have half a brain cell in their heads.
The BIG PICTURE,notice the Brit mentions hearthstone and Overwatch, yeah blizzard that developer that o many seem to cherish and brag about. They are quickly if not already the most shotty run business in gaming.I kind of enjoyed hearing the Brit mention Battlefront 1 was awful yet sold 12 million copies,it really proves how brain dead consumers are.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
This one actually has very good gameplay. It will sold even more and on top of that they make huge pile of money.
But the proliferation of lootboxes into all spheres of gaming proves that players are spending vast amounts of money on those things. No company would add such a feature to all their products if ROI on that feature was negligible.
Lootboxes are a proven money-spinner.
Gamers like to have advantages over other players, and it's become abundantly clear that they are prepared to pay RL money to get those advantages...
I will not support this. If that means playing old games and indie games the rest of my life so be it.
Big F U to loot boxes and cash shop cancer.

Try a MUD today at http://www.mudconnect.com/To be honest some of these games should be free with all these micro transactions or considerably cheaper initially.
I wouldn't avoid a game just because someone else gets to buy stuff with money - that seems like cutting my nose off to spite my face.
I get satisfaction from earning stuff and I will work towards that. If someone kills me because they bought better stuff than I have, who cares, I will work to match them and get enjoyment from doing so. I won't necessarily know if they bought or earned it and then I've re-spawned and am carrying on.
Too many people seem to get upset about what others are doing. If you like the gameplay then just play the game and stop getting your knickers in a twist.
I know the cry-babies will give the game a zero on metacritic JUST because of the cash shop element. How about you just don't buy it, don't play it and don't review it then.
Why Star Wars Battlefront 2's Microtransactions Are A Huge Problem
Pay to win?
Battlefront II's progression system seems almost entirely dependent on loot boxes, which give players a random selection of power-ups, weapons, emotes, and more. However, getting everything you need to get more powerful--even a scope for one weapon--takes an inordinate number of hours if you don't buy extra crates, seemingly forcing players to spend money to win.https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-star-wars-battlefront-2s-microtransactions-are/1100-6453996/?utm_source=weekly_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20160510&bt_ee=efXqcSBerLHgxC6DWB25Bm9ntVGNUEUp2New7U5x/0C8Di7b1LONfrHVWHXZ+3mF&bt_ts=1507887693964

Remember when DDO was the first western MMO/CORPG that went F2P? It made loads of cash in the beginning, now when everyone does it the actual income have gone down a lot.
But as long as few games do it they will earn loads of cash. Since it seems good more then a few people will skip buying anymore games for a month or 2 and put that cash into crates. And everyone else will do the same even if they will earn far less by then.
As for me the whole thing sounds like highway robbery so I will stay away but that wont make much difference unless the majority of the players do the same (they wont). I will use those 60 bucks for a nice Whiskey bottle instead, the good kind of pay2win.
