I agree. I wasnt trying to justify all the rudeness in GENERAL, what i was trying to say is - in public and non-controlled place like GENERAL chat people speak their minds and opinions. Sometimes those opinions vary, sometimes they are logical sometimes not, sometimes they are respectfull sometimes not. IT is to be expected that some people will (ab)use GENERAL chat for profanity, racism, sexism etc.
Its like speaking in public - anyone can say anything, but if they are offencie, they can get arrested. Same with WoW, if you report that person, they get a warning/temp ban and if its reoccuring offence - a perm ban. These things happen in a very public places. Yes its untolerable, but it happens. Thats why I was suggesting to leave general chat and join it only on occasions. Dont let it run all the time, you dont need to anyway. If you found your group, leave that chat. It will only distract me if i have to monitor all those comments about bBritneys boobs or who is sluttier Spears or Aguillera.
Maybe I've just had a bit of luck, but every player that I've reported had action taken against them within 15-20 mins. I use the profanity filter and mostly ignore any off-hand comments, but some times there are those that just spam obscenities in Gen. Chat.
I have my chat windows seperated and mainly watch guild chat anyways.

I found this to be true quite a few times when I reported infants misbehaving, usually with inappropriate names. I'd report, get the generic lie of a response and see the same name again a couple days later.
What I'd do was re-report them and say "This is the second/third/fourth/fifth/etc time I've filed this ticket. Please take the necessary action."
Eventually they'd get it done, but with a community as bad as WoW's it's like chipping away at an iceberg.

Yup, you'll find thousands of youngens playing, but try not to judge by their age.... I've met some very mature 12+ yr old players, as opposed to some very immature 25+ yr old players. Just as with any MMO you get to meet all kinds of people, from the person who will only flip burgers all his life, too doctors and scientists with PHDs.
The one good thing about letting morons be immature in general chat is you know who the morons are. They are essentially advertising they are not worth doing trading or partying with. If enough people get the message they eventually wither because everyone eventually gets sick of thier shit and walks away.
When I played back in February we had a couple of really bad ones on Stormscale (U.S. PvP) that would not only harrass people in chat but also troll the forums starting fights. Eventually one got perma-banned from the forums and the other one left because he could not go around ganking lowbies and screw up his HK ranking thanks to the DK system.
Some of this is also Blizz's fault to for not having enough mods that take action. I hear this same complaint time and time again. It makes me think that maybe Blizz's subscription numbers are so high because they allow in all the losers that get kicked out of other games.
As far as I'm concerned, they can have them. I cancelled my account months ago and moved on to Guild Wars. It's the best MMO community I've played with. It has the right amount of maturity, but people don't walk around with a stick up thier ass taking it much to seriously and pushing things too far in the other direction *cough*MxO*cough*.
If the community in WoW is that bad, /ingoring isn't working out and you can't find a good guild, maybe it's time to give another MMO a try.
