Linear gameplay, boring combat, arcade-like features, dungeon finder... the list goes on and on. I really wanted to love this game but no.

I was in the beta and really wanted to like the game but the more I played it the more I felt like I was playing WoW.  I eventually decided if I was going to play WoW, I would just move over and play WoW.

The game is nice but it really is just WoW in a Sci-Fi setting.

For me it's the color pallet, clutter, combat and story that I don't like.

Like many said I didn't hate it, but it sure as heck frustated me.

I loved the action combat and telegraphs.  Makes other actions games like TERA feel clunky in comparison.

Like my old GM said: You can be punishing or you can be unrewarding.  You can't be both.  Wildstar was both in spades.

Gearing was RNGception and filling out the last bit of skill upgrades (AMPS/Ability points) involved grinding dalies for 8+ months.  Carbine was far too slow releasing alternative ways to farm them.  They pivoted on gearing three times.  The one I played the most under (pre-RMT) involved either spending a ridiculous amount of plat (in-game currency) on RNG or spending RL money for their cash shop exclusive Service Tokens which let you pick exactly what you needed.

Another thing that drove me nuts was they'd keep introducing new catch up mechanics without keeping the older content relevant.  Arcterra made dungeons not worth running.  etc.  Then Contracts got updated making Arcterra a waste of time, etc.

Once they announced the Primal Grind, I was done.  I may still go back for the RP, but I doubt I'll ever run another instance.  Heck my DS gear (120) is now trash tier, lol.

Ive recently got into Wildstar and I'm actusally loving it. Then I start reading about it in different Forums and see all the Hate it has. Just wondering why? Its fun, Humorous, Lighthearted, and kinda Skillfull....I think its a great MMO....It just Boggles me
If your enjoying it then just stay away from other forums. Your the the one having fun with the game as others are that play it. Just talk with them. Don't let others with hate for the game matter to you.

I couldn't agree more. Ultimately it comes down to the individual and if they enjoy it. I say use opinion's of others to gather information, but you wont know until you try.

Is the game's background theme music that old song by Eric Carmen, "all by myself...."  ;)

Not along, but not a lot of others. Kyleran you know me I'm a PVE er at heart. Speaking of which where do you see Eve heading.
Glad to here there are a few folks there for you to hang with.

Where is EVE heading, hard to predict. I think CCP really needs a win on some game besides EVE, too many years of unsuccessful titles has to be taking its toll financially.

Pretty much they'll stay the course, though the recent interface change clearly helps PVE players be more aware of what is available.

Doubt we're seeing any big swing from the core philosophy,  I've not played in almost a year,  still haven't found a good reason to return.

They wanted to make a vanilla WoW 2004 era game with action combat but that was no longer the MMO market in 2014.

What killed it was the raid attunement/keying making endgame a chore and ppl quitting after cap.

    - Reputation grind
    - Dungeon grind that could not be done with pugs
    - World Boss grind
    - Elder Gem grind (weekly currency)
    - Some collection stuff

To get enough people through all of this to field a consistent 20 or 40 man raid was nearly impossible. The raids themselves were also very punishing with small mistakes leading to full wipes. Only a few guilds even did 40 mans regularly.

PvP was also a mess due to the way pvp gear was obtained, OP items, and an abysmal arena plagued with win trading.

The 'hard' (grind) MMO is dead. What themeparks do now is the RNG crafting casino where you:

log in -> daily -> pull the lever in the crafting slot machine -> buy more chances in the cash shop -> log out.

Linear quest hub themepark at its worst.  Running down a set path in a corridor world...zero freedom.

I never got to max level.  I played the game several times and had no desire to level or see the next zone or go adventuring which is what I do in most MMO's.  Classes were OK.  Skills were OK.  Combat wasn't real bad.

I think wildstar did some stuff I liked and stuff I don't like. The hit and miss to me was the class didn't hit me to well. I'm am planing playing a bit soon again.

There are interesting and uninteresting types of hard.  Having to adjust your tactics to win a battle, but having the opportunity to make that adjustment, is an interesting sort of hard.  That doesn't cause games to fail.

Fighting with a terrible control scheme that makes it difficult to get your character to move how you want is not an interesting type of hard.  Nor is needing to get help from players in a deserted game world where the players you need aren't there.  Those are the two primary types of "hard" that Wildstar offered.

I was kinda into it recently...but...

I went back to WoW after blizzcon showing. Yeah blizzard pulls me in easily.

Wildstar graphics/art is beautiful (to me it is)...the humor is amazing. But...I dunno...I feel like WoW has a lot more to explore (the world of WoW is huge with all the expansions adding so much land) and Wildstar world felt really small. The largest zone I went into in Wildstar I could cross in less than 10 min...maybe movement speed is really fast but if so it makes world feel tiny.

I also don't really like wildstar endgame, and none of the classes really drew me in. And that is what really made me stop playing...WoW the classes are amazing, in theme and how they feel. I just didn't like any of the classes in Wildstar. The only one I sorta liked was Esper and Engineer, but not that much.

I also did settler, and building stuff up isn't very fun when it resets so fast. Explorer was a lot more fun but I like settler more (if things didn't reset in a blink of an eye). None of the other professions I cared about.

The best part of wildstar though for me is the announcer...he was hilarious lol. the whole game has great humor. but it wasn't enough to keep me in the game.

I don't guess that it's hatred, just indifference.  The developers found that the hardcore raiding niche they were aiming for just didn't exist.

I told them this...in beta.  One of their developers publically laughed at me.

I told them that the 40 man hardcore raiding mentality is dead.  The people that experienced it during vanilla WoW were in their mid 30s-early 40s with families, careers, and little time to devote to 40 man hard core raiding groups.  These are the people that actually knew what it was like to get 40 people and personalities online at the same time to complete an objective.  These are the people that no longer want to because they know what it takes.

The people that were clamoring for it are those that have the time to do these 40man raids...15-25 year olds, and most likely never experienced one themselves.  But they came to the forums claiming they had.

Wildstar was a great game.  I say was because who really plays it anymore?  Love the graphics, classes, humor, housing, questing, zones, lore, dungeons.  Loved it.  They just screwed the endgame because they were idiots.

And because stephen frost was a sellout who jumped ship.

boring, I have tried 5 or 6 times and I am falling asleep before I hit level 10

as an opposite, I have played ESO and started over 8-10 times, and I get to 20-25 and get bored at that point every time

Honestly I think many people wanted something completely unlike World of Warcraft, and many other people were disappointed that it wasn't what they'd convinced themselves they wanted.
Then there are the hard core gankers that won't stop whining when a game doesn't allow them to kill anyone they want anywhere in the game.

I guess in short most of it boils down to Expectations. What it was, what it wasn't, and what it would never be. Most of the haters convinced themselves they didn't like it because of some preconceptions that weren't fulfilled. Happens a lot.
As to being a WoW killer, there is no such thing, at least not until one actually shows up, but it won't happen on anyone's plans, it'll just happen.

Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...

I don't hate much at all.

But I do think Wildstar is one of the least appealing MMOs I've ever played - except for certain obscure indies and what not.

There was simply nothing about it that I found fresh, new or interesting. The combat "telegraph" system was sort of ok, I guess - but such a minor improvement in the grand scheme of things.

I didn't care for the art style, the setting, the environment, the story, the mechanics, the design paradigm - and so on.

    Just one big misfire, really.

Very well then, I'd like for you to justify why exactly the same controls should mean either strafe or turn depending on how long it has been since the player last attacked.  And why the player should not have the option to change that behavior.  Plenty of games give the player the option to both strafe and turn by having different controls for both of them so that you can actually do the one you want rather than having the game randomly pick one for you.

It is not hated. Just forgotten. Anybody with a functional brain could see it would fail to drag and hold a playerbase.

    Hype.

It was built up as the ultimate theme park MMO (the final 'WoW killer' with Devs that 'were listening'), and while technically all the bits were there, the way it was put together was uninspiring to say the least... it was just boring, a 'been-there-done-that' theme park with mundane quests and a hyperactive combat system that hit a terrible middle ground between action (without the feedback) and whack-a-mole (without the choice, flexibility, or strategy afforded by more than 8 buttons)... or at least that was the first 20 levels worth, I heard it 'got better later', but wasn't about to sink another 30 hours in to find out.

Edit: And speaking of combat, at least in the early game, it was far too easy and utterly failed to show the fun / 'advantages' of the system... I still remember simply standing in telegraphs* because they hit for less than the mobs auto-attack (and had a cast time to boot, making telegraph using mobs far easier to beat than those that simply auto-attacked; face->palm).

    * And it's not that telegraphs can't work: FFXIV uses them to good effect, making an otherwise standard whack-a-mole combat system a bit more interesting.
