Now that everything's neatly installed and patched, and the weekend is coming up, I'm hoping to get some advice. Part of what I need are some short term objectives that will help me get off to a good start, without gimping myself right off the bat.
I've been through the tutorial zone, which was fast and easy. Maybe a bit too easy, but then you get to a village in your realm where you can get more low-level quests. I've been following a series of these quests, and getting a steady trickle of starting equipment, mostly pieces of armour. Is this a good way to get started? Should I remain here awhile, running as many quests as I can?
I have a lot of MMORPG experience (FFXI, AO, EQ2, SWG, etc.), and so I know that every game has its own set of best practices, things that people learn to embrace, and things that they are careful to avoid. Any such tips for DAoC that would help a fledgling player would be gratefully appreciated.

Most players have not bothered playing the low-end game (below level 20) in a very long time. So it will be hard to get advice.
But there are two common things you will need - equipment and money. I am not sure of what realm you are playing, but I think they are all fairly common.
1. Run the starting quests so you can get armor/weapons and learn your way around.
2. Starting around level 7 your trainer will give you the start on an 'Epic' quest that last until level 50. It is broken down into parts. I believe when you do those you get some items. I haven't bothered doing those in 2+ years, but I think that was the case.
3. Non-Catacombs quests give items/money but the XP is generally lousy.
4. Catacombs quests give a huge amount of XP, but after the lower level quests almost never give items. The money is always horrible, like level 49 quest you might get 1 gp.
5. If you are looking for items, then kill in dungeons or SI areas. You will find the best random generated droped loot that way.
6. When you get high enough do private adventure wings to get aurulite or kill in DF to get seals. That way you can get decent equipment.
So basically at low levels try to get armor, once you get armor work on the money/leveling. I can't say there is any wrong way to do things, but it is common for people to spend too much money at low levels and this can leave your unable to buy your con back or take a horse. So do not waste your money. So when it comes to buying equipment make sure it is at least orange to you. If not you will outgrow them too soon and it will be a waste of money.
Thank you, Julian!
