this video is a perfect example of the behind the scenes look at the development of Star Citizen/Squadron 42 that i appreciate.
i am not sure if this is related but there is a thread on Reddit about a possibly great leak from Evocati if true! THIS

If CIG has managed to fit 60 people into a server and keep it lag-free, then they're going to tell us themselves about their good progress on that front.
We should ignore the rumors and wait for CIG's announcement.
so now hitting 30 fps with 60 players on a server is amazing and alarmingly good?
colour me unimpressed.
If that is 60 players able to interact in a single spot then I believe that's a significant mprovement .
Thought I read earlier this year they were struggling when 12 to 25 players got together.
Well they did say they would try work on some performance issues before 3.0 live release. I find it hard to believe that they were able to so easily overcome some of the performance issues they were having through just a few tweaks.
As I said before this is the point of Evocati they have tried new code, it provided good performance at first but with one huge amount of crashes, they are actively working on this.
But that bugsmashers does indeed point the culling that one of the big points of performance that if you see the video, players would be sending updates to each other independent of where they were on the game world, culling that based on a distance range means one huge cut in updates what benefits the server and the clients.
They don't need 60 players per instance for me (that is also unconfirmed attm), I'm good with 24 if the servers maintain +30FPS. Hopefully, the ETF phase goes well enough to achieve that.
I think approx. 64 per instance is achievable with current technology and we have seen it in other games already - working quite well.

Sure you can have 1000 players in the same location in EVE Online. At 1:10 time dilation and around 1 fps. Zoomed out to max. With most ship types set to non-display as you usually focus only on certain ship types anyway. Which is an improvement over the old black log-in screens of the past, were you woke up in a clone vat as the screen cleared - killed while logging in.
Or try a few hundred people in the same place at the same time in the same instance in other games and watch the GMs teleport players away galore to keep the server from crashing and burning.
Friend checked the build with is out on work but the other ETF members ik do confirm this, this high pop test is indeed happening, same in other places.
Point being: this is a test and should be taken as such; a stress test while at it, so it's to wait for anything official to see if they are going to commit to higher player counts.
My girlfriend's brother's uncle's great grandfather is an evocati and he said this is just an unproven rumour. He's not experienced it himself and has not heard any other evocatis talking about it in chat.

I looked into it and as this comes from multiple places especially when you know some peeps in the group then it's more solid info.
But this is a test and it seems it ends tomorrow (Friday). It doesn't mean anything like "60 player servers confirmed!", 60 was the stress test conducted under some guidelines.

That's what everybody's favourite doctor said, ie it was just a "get as many clients logged in at one time" test, that playability was not what they were looking for at all. He claims they were told not to spawn certain ships because of server load etc and that even with just 60 people lag was so bad that QT was taking a full minute to function after pressing the keybind.

The Doctor has the usual spin with the usual agenda behind it as we all know, the discussions I was having do not report the picture he does, no surprise there really.
Especially on the reported frames and playability considering the main condition was not spawning the big ships (that wasn't disabled), I think it would bode well even if this ends without a player pop increase, assuming that from watching this bugsmashers they have started to implement network culling.

Evocati Tests with 60 Players are now confirmed. Confirmation that the final player count will be 60 has not been given, they still have work to be done, Sean Tracy just decided to state it's looking good.
Sean also gave details in terms of servers the performance being already 2x better than the current 2.6.3 with 60 players per Instance.
It seems they are pretty confident of being able to increase the player count.
Even as a confirmed skeptic, if they can actually do this, it would be a huge leap forward. Of course, it could also be a cherry picked setup designed to put their best wing forward. We'll see when some iteration hits the regular test server. If it's still the case there, then a major accomplishment.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Nothing above a constellation was supposed to be spawned, no travel, etc. Doesn't sound like that great a leap to me even if it does work.
To have a notion of it, the performance of the 3.0 build with 60 players is higher than the performance of the current released 2.6 with 24. This also goes for the 3.0 builds before the o one, being this testing new code.

As (un)true as the rumour mentioned in the OP.
Have fun

What no travel? The opposite was asked, to be traveled and played with normally.
As for the ships discouraged from spawned were only pretty much 3, the Constellations, the Starfarer and the Caterpillar, everything else was fine.
I thought the Newegg video only compared the performance of current version vs. 2.6.3 with 60 players in instance on both versions.
