Returning for the PvE part

Lord.BachusLord.Bachus Member RarePosts: 9,686
i played the game at release and found there is much to be loved
espscially for an explorer like me, because there was enough to exploe
and i even liked the quest system that seemed o give alts a different experience

but i am not a big pvp player anymore these days..
so how viable is returning for pve in a pvp world
will i be able to catch up?
will i be ganked at every corner?

are there any classes particully good of escaping and surviving gankers?
i noticed they added a considerable bunch of new classes
altough there still seems not to be such thing as a heale/support class?
whats the best class at crowd controll?
also a huge amount of new content.
how big is the world now compared to at the eu release of the game?

will i be able to start a whole new character with all quests reset, and my trade network also reset?
well, maybe just the quests, my tade network could help me catching up...

i hope some will tak the time to answer all my questions..

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Well I played it as a pure PvE game and never got killed but then I was not in the mandatory PvP level so my experience may be of little use to you.

will you be able to catch up ?
if you don't pvp there is nothing to really catch up to, go at your own pace and you'll be fine.

will you be ganked at every corner ?
this is a common misconception with open world pvp games and probably why people don't give these games a chance most of the time. you will not be ganked at all, people just want to grind and progress. you have the occasional idiot that will kill you and steal your grind spot. switch channel or go somewhere else or come back and kill him/ask your guild for help. there are few highly sought after grind spot and nowadays there are so many viable grinding spots that you seldom find any pvp at all outside of nodewars/sieges (which makes me sad but that's beside the point).

classes that can escape ganks : all of them, press V it turns you invisible/invulnerable for a short time allowing you to escape easily (long cooldown though).
without V, i'd say dark knight, striker, maewha/musa. they all have incredible mobility.

    healer/support :
the only classes with real healing are witch and wizards which are both the top tier pvp classes.
they are both incredibly potent in pve, wizard being more pvp oriented and melee-ish (wiz have more skills that are point blank aoe/cone compared to witch) whereas witch, while still good in pvp are often used as pve alts for bosses due to being long ranged and having a block (while wiz gets a grab).
valkyries are excellent pvp supports (and still capable of spanking you) and probably the closest thing to a crowd control class there is, which brings me to the next point :

crowd control is not exactly a 'thing' in bdo, not in the traditionnal sense of the term. it is useless in pve and only used in pvp. meaning that every class has CC and they are mostly used in a chain combo to kill someone rather than controling a whole area (exception being valks in pvp with their insane aoe CC). you kill monsters (outside of world bosses which are immune to CC) in one or two skills anyways.

how big is the world compared to release BDO ? if you like exploring, you are in for a treat. the game world is enormous now.

will you be able to start a character from scratch ? yes. story quest is reset on every new character. plus now you get a lot of free stuff along the way that saves you a lot of money as a fresh start/returning player.
you keep your trade network though, but that's not a bad thing. it's free money :D

    hope that helps.
