Another need a new game thread

Ok, lets make it simple.. I need a new MMO. I basically just quit WoW at lvl 59. WoW is a great game but it gets to repeditive for me becuase you have to do the same instance over and over and over to get new gear. I also during WoW played Guild Wars but it's just tooo boring for me. I'm still going to play it but only once my friend lvls my guy to 20 and then all I will do it occasionally pvp. Then a went a bit korean and tried RO on a private server, R.O.S.E, and Gunz Online. Those were OK but like all other games of the sort they get boring fast.
So now that the thought came to me I searched around and found this site and stuff. I was going to try RYL because my friend could get me a free copy and an account where I don't have to pay every month but after reading here it seems I shouldn't even bother with it. I then tried the trial for Sage of Ryzom which to me was so boring because all the quests were, "Make me a sword." No real quests and while playing I didn't find 1 other real player. So I tried the EVE trial and thought it was cool and fun but I had a major problem. The text is all messed up and unreadable(If you know how to fix that thank!). I still like that a bit but it's not the kind of game where you pull out your sword and stab sombody.
So if anybody can give me a sujestion on a game or other trials to trial. Thanks.::::28::
In a game I would want:
-Prefferable has a rogue/assassin class
-Fun quests
-Always somthing new to do which means no repeditivity
-Fast lvling and the reason for that is so I'm not killing the same thing for hours on hours(Unless its slow lvling where its reallly fun I can live)
-Has lots of players and alot of times to group of and quest/KILL!
-Not somthing that gets me frustrated::::21::(unless it is for a good reward)
-Good music is also nice ::::32::
So I'll be waiting for an answer now.
Edit: Paying isn't an isue.

Take a look at DAoC. It's got different kinds of rogue/assassin classes, which look really cool in the video clips. There are quests you can do, but I'm not sure if they're "fun" or not. I haven't played long enough to give a generalized statement on that.

You get a free level every 7 days, or so I've read, as long as you earned a level on your own in that week. So the grind is not as harsh as other games.

Also, now that they added three new servers to the game, there are a lotta new enthiastic players. The game was once abandoned, but but the Gareth, Lamorak, and Ector servers are pretty active these days.

Finally, I hear that the PvP is unmatched... the best of all mmorpgs.

So, at least download the 14 day trial.

If anybody knows, If I like the game do I have to go out and buy the game and all of the expansions, or do I get to keep this and just get the expansions not encluded?
Edit: Is the thing about the 3 realms like the Horde and Alliance in WoW? Also if anyone else has any other ideas thats great too.

EQ2 is a good option. It's a lot like WoW but with far more depth of content, levelling is not as fast as WoW but not so slow that it's painful. You will not run out of things to do and new content literally pours into the game so odds of running out of stuff to do is slim :) LOL.... as to Quests... if you actually manage to run out of quests to do I'll be rather shocked.

    Sounds are top notch.

DAOC isn't bad either but it's a little older and unless things have changed the level grind from 40 to 50 was pretty bad and not a whole lot of fun. I have heard they've added bunches of content since I left so it is probably a lot less painful in the upper levels now.

If you're into the Sci Fi scene SWG and EVE might be options as well... Though EVE was definitely frustrating on many occasions :)

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

As I said I tried eve. Mybe I should try EQII but my friend completely dropped it for WOW.. but I might try that out. And I have another friend that played SWG and said the new combat system really sucks but I don't know how bad it is. I still really want to try SWG though becuase of Fett's Vetto.

Its a lil different, as far as I understand it. I don't think you can run into players on the enemy side unless you're in a territory to do some castle capturing. For that reason, I hear its a lot like a new game when you do actually play on the enemy side after being on one side for a year or so. BTW, you can only choose one realm at a time per account. This is to ensure that there won't be any spying.

As far as the free trial and expansions go... if you end up liking the game, all you have to do is buy the catacombs expansion if you plan on playing on the three servers that I mentioned. If you wanna play on the other servers, then you'll have to get Trials of Atlantis expansion as well, if I'm not mistaken. See, the new servers are great because they are WITHOUT the trials of atlantis expansion (which is the expansion that made a significant number of people quit playing DAoC).

Yes DAoC is older, but just means that you may have to worry about graphics. Take a look at the videos and screenshots, and you'll see that the graphics are very very decent.

And with DAoC being older, it'll probably mean that it's got lots of content and a large map, considering that many developers continually add locations and content to their game over time.

Personally, I'm in the same boat as you, I'm looking for a new game since I lost interest in WoW. And after hours and hours of researching, I think DAoC is going to be my next mmorpg until something better comes out.

I would say DAoC, with catacombs. Without catacombs the PvE game is a chore. Grind grind grind. When i started over on the new servers. Heres how i leveled

1-11 Task dungeons(random dungeons for a specific task, kill blah blah, its a easy way to get started and get a feel for your class, it also has alot less downtime then soloing out in the wilderness IMHO, also finding a group of 3 people will up everything to orange, so you can get some great exp)

11-12 Tomte prison, a instance which drops aurulite(stones you trade for gear). And decent money. Did it a couple times trying to get to the final boss.. and then getting wiped everytime at him =P(he's one hard sucker!)

12-18 Jarlsberg hidehout, another instance, had lots of fun exploring this place, killing things and getting to the final boss for the loot, once again aurulite.

18-20 22-26ish Thieves Den, great exp, great aurulite, great items.

    20-22 thidranki(battlegrounds)

26-28 Den of bones, instance, tons of aurulite

28-33 Lios Eternal Rest, instance, aurulite, money, loot.

    33-35 Task dungeons

Now thats how i did it, i skipped tons of quests, never truly "grinded" since clearing out a dungeon was just fun and the first time you do it feels like a adventure(you can almost/always get a level per run with another person)

May not be the fastest way but i had a blast. More fun then i ever had on my reaver and necromancer as i got them to 40ish/50 respectively.(well necro is argueable since i really did enjoy it)

There are tons of quests I could of done, which I saw as i traveled(since they have a ring around their feet)

Ionno its a enjoyable game, and these new servers are the perfect place to start, considering you can almost get a group for any level at any time.

I'll be the first to admit that daoc isn't the best game ever. But comparing it to the other current mmos it does stand out for itself. It's main problem is that pre-cata its not very fun PvE, and with cata you have to buy it to enjoy it(so you'd hate the trial). As well as the first 10 levels being extremely boring.... kinda depends if you like your class or not i guess, i loved my berserker from level 1.

The hardest part about daoc, is finding a class you like, and sticking it out for the first 10 levels.... they are a killer(literally, a killer of subscriptions).

Also it helps to be able to pick up a new game, and adapt to it easily. If your the type of person that needs someone to hold your hand while you get started, and can't just drop yourself in.. you may have some trouble, but then again i believe daoc has a downloadable tutorial.......... not 100% when patching click "optional downloads" i believe its there.

My advice if you do daoc. Just stick with it. And get catacombs, since 80% of groups are doing something catacombs related(at least the ones ive been invited to)... And come to the gareth server, realm midgard... if your a new player i can give you some money, maybe some gear, and definately some help.

DAoC is a really hard/wierd switch after coming from wow. I went from 49 in wow(got dreadfully boring) and started back here(after already having a 50/40) and took me awhile to readjust. Especially going from WoWs insane grouping penalty, to DAoCs almost = exp that comes twice as fast.

I don't need my hand held the whole way, I just need the push at the start. Before playing almost every game I read guide after guide and those always help alot. So if you can give me a link to a popular DAoC community site.
I'll join your server becuase I'm sure I'll need a bit of help, after I get my ass out of the house to buy the expansion.
Would the Midgard rogue class(nightstalker or somthing?) be an OK newb class or is there somthing else I should use?
And also thanks for the lvling guide ::::28::

  • BladinBladin Member UncommonPosts: 1,089

Well the midgard stealth class is called a shadowblade.

I have never personally played a assassin type class, but from what I've heard is that they aren't very good PvE, and in PvP you get mixed results, now that you can't just camp your bot somewhere you may have some trouble. Since your gonna run into groups of people who have buffs(I've seen alot more actively played shamans/etc buff classes) and you won't have any, so your gonna have to pick off solos or find a group and travel with them, or get a stealther group.
