ive got a lvl 24 Tauren Hunter and i dont really like to use range that much. Anyone have any advice on a Melee hunter? im not doing so bad right now but trying to fight elites my lvl i get my ass handed to me many times. This is my game plan at the moment is this: Set trap and pull them to me about half the way there i send my pets to tank. it keeps tank pretty well while im using raptor strike.

reroll a warrior. Hunters ARE NOT melee'ers. use your gun and spec marksmanship. melee hunters are a joke. you only melee to wing clip and run out and shoot. its like playing a warrior with cloth armor becuase it has better stats. why would you gimp yourself like that? learn how to use ranged or reroll. those are your two options.

and if you stick with the hunter dont EVER EVER DARE to even think about rolling on a melee weapon. You will be black listed and shuned. Children will throw rocks at you!

It is not a bad idea. Even ifg you will not be at the tp of the DPS ladder, you will still have a valid way of levelling. First of all, start with 5 points in "ToHit" melee weapons. Then, Every single talent point you have into Beast Mastery. This early, your pet will keep you free to do what you want. In the end, an even slplit between Beast/ Survival... yeah, not super, but it works.

I go Marksman/Survival and has added lots of points into my melee.. Its not bad. Range is better, but.. Its not bad. Good luck!

LOL that's a bit harsh Tribe. Hunters need melee weapons too, but I would pick and choose which ones I rolled on carefull to be sure. Hunters get a bad enough rap as it is, if a warrior needs the weapon more than you I would let him have it.

Be sure to inspect the melee members of your group before you go in the instance so you know what to roll on. And don't take any crap, you deserve melee weapons too. If it's a big upgrade for you and a small one for a warrior, you roll on it. image

Melee hunters do have pretty decent dps, but nothing compares to when they are shooting: you can do great damage, hit multiple enemies and control the movement of your targets all at the same time.

Actually, I have a friend who plays a hunter, and uses melee here and there. He can deal some major damage melee, too. Now, of course he does a lot more using range, but even if you get caught up in melee with him he can tear through you. He's a polearm user, with some 2H axes when we find a nice one. I reccomend going with a polearm or 2H axe if you want to do melee, and make sure to set your talents up for it. But, most importantly, remember that sooner or later you're gonna have to go ranged.
