I may be mistaken, but they appear to be mimicking Buddhism.  To my knowledge, the men couldn't have sex and the women remained separate from the men.  They certainly didn't keep slaves.

At any rate, I don't really care that much.  I'm just saying I prefer to take the side of the group that doesn't pretend to be anything else but sleazy.  This is a bunch of prisoners after all.  It's obviously not meant to be taken seriously.  I'm just justifying my alignment in my mind heh.

    I'm still loving Gothic 3

This morning I had to fight a few Rock Golem's in a small cave.  Being total straight sword and shield I know this would have no effect, same with my bow, their rock for Christ sake.  But I had blunt arrows in my inventory, sure enough that did the trick.  I got all three to chase me and ran until they separated then took them out one at a time.

This huge map has three areas:
    - Myrtana, this is a old English setting
    - Varant, desert
    - Nordmar, snow cap

I'm still in Myrtana in my 20s, I maxed out my sward and shield abilities, but still lacking in my archery.  I would love to work on thievery to pick pocket and open harder chest, alchemy to make extremely good potions, better yet permanent ones.  My hunting skills are lacking too, they say you can make a lot of money harvesting animals..... So much to do, and I refuse to use cheat codes.

I still haven't picked a side yet between Rebels or the Orcs.  However my points are leading up to the Rebels, but you have to be careful how you talk to both sides because for now I have to deal with both...... They say keep it neutral as long as you can before choosing.

I want so much.  I want abilities, I want to go to the next area Varant to see what the desert looks like, I want to pick a side !
Nothing to be ashamed. You're just a gamer actually likes the game. Typicallly people who cheat only like parts of the game, like its story or the upper levels or something else. Chronic cheaters are people who shouldn't be playing games at all. If they're looking for story they should just grab a book.

I played Two Worlds (original) not too long ago. It was very stable in Ubuntu 14.04.  There were lots of things to do and see. It's not the best game I've ever played, but in terms of graphics it was breathtaking. It has a few things I usually like in RPGs: 1) random items 2) open world 3) combat > story 4) skill-based development 5) crafting. Something unique it has is combining two identical items to improve, as well wearing equipment with the same armor set # for bonuses. Almost anything can be improved with crystals. In fact, it has what looks like a interesting crafting system. YOu can handmake traps. It's lacking in some respects, like virtually no woman or children, awkward and limited skillset, challenge is too low, world is sort of small, disjointed writing, can't play female, simplistic dialogue and other. It's like a child of TES and Diablo. It's RPG-lite.

A big part of the gamepay for me in TW was setting traps for groups of enemies and then picking them off and resetting traps if needed. It was like hit and run. I have to say I had a lot of fun. I love the exploration.

Slaves were kept in Buddhist countries though eventually it was outlawed. There is mention of slavery in Buddhist texts. So it was known and practiced by some.

edit: I should add I"m like you and generally don't want to be on the sleazy side. I think I"m going to try to liberate as much as possible in this game.

    Haha.

I don't think there is a side that isn't a criminal element.  There are those who pretend to be good like many of the sect people.  One could argue the mages are religious and knowledgeable, but they are also zealots.  I chose the old camp and to be a guard because I didn't really want to be a priest type.  I also felt the old camp and the guards were particularly open about their debauchery.  I'm not sure what to think of the new camp.  They are all Rogues and Barbarians outside of the water mages.  Some of them are good and some are bad.

Yes.  At around level 10 ish you should be choosing a side.  It's likely you will have visited all the camps and met people in them.  I actually had no choice but to join the old camp as some of the decisions I made while traveling around early in the game made it impossible for me to join the sect camp or the new camp.  These decisions are easy to overlook.  I was fairly tempted to join the new camp honestly.  The swamp where the sect camp is a fairly nice area as well.  The old camp probably is probably the dullest looking, but it does have a castle.

If you don't that's one thing that would be better than Skyrim. The dam CIvil War Arc is the worst and completing it makes Skyrim feel broken. So I almost never do the civil war expept for that effing stupid peace conference that gives Riften to Maven, who I want to slap when I became Thane because she gets all full of herself. Like......."I put you there bitch. I can take you down too."

Hate that about Skyrim......forced choices......Oh but it's all open world.

I haven't finished the game yet.  I'm around level 14ish.  After joining old camp I was sent to investigate the sect camp and what they were doing by the second in command of the old camp.  So far I haven't seen anything major.  I can still travel to the other camps and interact with the people.  I believe the main difference is you get your quests from that specific camp and you get different choices for what you can become.  New camp player start as Rogues I believe and can become Mercenaries or Water Mages.  Old camp people start as Shadows and can become either Guards or Fire Mages.  Sect camp people can only become Templars I believe.  They can never become Gurus for some reason.

That's not a choice in the game....it's an opt out of the content.
    I see that totally different.
Like the DB arc. If you don't join, you get one little halfassed quest to kill the DB in Skyrim and call it a day.

You want to do the companions? You must become a Werewolf. Why do I need the blood of the wolf when I already have the dragon?

It's things like this......Oh you don't have to complete the companions....You don't have to complete the civil war, you don't have to complete the MQ.........Does that really make sense?

(Yes I love Skyrim, but these are my biggest bitches with the game)

So I almost never do the civil war expept for that effing stupid peace conference that gives Riften to Maven, who I want to slap when I became Thane because she gets all full of herself. Like......."I put you there bitch. I can take you down too."

Hate that about Skyrim......forced choices......Oh but it's all open world.
Yeah but you don't' have to join the civil war at all. You also don't have to do the main quest other than getting captured and let go (talking about Skyrim).

I'm not defending Skyrim as I didn't find all of the quests engaging.  I did like all the guild quests I'll admit.  They were probably my favorites in the game.  I think you could cure yourself of lycanthropy, but I may be mistaken.

    Yes.

It may make more sense to you maybe if the quest lines actually played out in real time with no player involvement. Like the civil war for example. If you choose not to partake, after a certain time frame in game someone does win and towns change accordingly.

I do believe the upcoming open ended sandbox RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance does that.

Some of them are good and some are bad.

huh I don't really look at it that way at all.

I'm ok that they want you to have the blood of the wolf as that is what that group is about.

For instance, it never bothered me at all and I just decided not to join them and went my way.

I'm ok with groups or sects having a "you must be this high to ride this ride".

That's good, but my problem in Skyrim is the opposite. You win the Civil War and the game carries on like you didn't.

OH yeah, I agree that sucks. Also the "I've just saved the world but no one seems to care and still gives me shit".

I'm not even talking about npc's not liking the character but if you've gone to Sovengarde and fought and won a battle with Alduin you better believe you shouldn't be giving me crap!

At least not everyone. I can see some characters wanting to test thesmelves (looking at you Ebon Warrior) and some drunk characters thinking you're not all that but the world should reflect more of what you have accomplished.

I've always thought the Elder Scrolls games should have a little bit of Fable in them when it came to that.

The obvious answer is, Skyrim is better than Gothic 3. But it also came out many years afterwards, while production and marketing budgets skyrocketed closer to Skyrims launch.

I think the real question is if both had released at the same time, which one would be considered better?

After listening to the extracted audio dialog from Serana's sound files. Do you know there are 2 words that were never recorded and not part of her lines anywhere....ever?

    1. Dovahkiin
    2. Dragonborn

She NEVER says it. and NEVER will.

It's the foundation of your game and many NPCs simply never even acknowledge it.

Like most games these days Skryim often focuses on quantity over quality.  They probably didn't have time to program in all the new reactions.  It could probably use a more focused approach.  There were quite a few side quests and the guild quests were longer than the main quests from what I recall.  The game would have benefitted from having less content with a bit more linear approach.

    I saw it as.....
They wanted each story to be experienced when the player wanted, Which they did, but at the cost of a huge disconnect between arcs.

They could have made it so you had to at least unlock the reveal at The Western Watchtower before doing anything else. It's not that far into the game where it would break anything else but at least they could have preserved the overall theme of who and what your character is and represents to Skyrim.

Anyway, I guess this thread is about Skyrim, but it's also about G3, which I really don't have anything to add there, so I guess I am done now. LOL

Gothic 3 isn't broken at all like some "old reviewers" would let you believe.  But you need to download the Steam patch.

Three game levels, low medium and hard.

I'm playing on low and it's still hard.  I've read a post on steam where they talk about low being hard, medium is like Dark Souls and hard is insane, everyone agreed.

I took some time to experiment with combat.
I turned up the difficulty and found an Orc I couldn't beat.  By re-loading the fight over and over, I applied the given attacks, Quick attack, Standard attack, Power strike, Quick attack from parry, Kill if on the ground and Jump attack......THEN I WAS ABLE TO BEAT HIM !

This game can be played like Dark Souls if you want too...... However, it can be unfair if fighting more than one.  However even to that, monsters and Orc's only attack one at a time and the recommended putting a LOT of points in Hit points would work to solve multiple fights !!!!

This game is a masterpiece !!!!!!!!

I finally made it to the Desert (part 2 of 3) It's like Gothic 3 has the game and two expansion packs built into one.  This area has dungeons.  I had to lower the difficulty back down.  I need a lot of potions because I haven't spent enough points in Hit points, lots of arrows to crawl and kite my way deeper in.  I'm in hell, with being poisoned and Mages blasting me in the face and two shooting me.... I wouldn't have it any other way :)

So far I have one complaint.  I wish I went Crossbow instead of Archery.  It seems I need a TON of Learning points to master archery where I wouldn't if crossbow (I think). I have soooo many things I want to spend Learning points on (their all cheap), but I need master archery first.  Almost their !

This may be the best RPG I ever played.
    Extremely immersive :)

So , because of the interest here , i decided to jump in G3 again , i had played it before quite a bit .

With all the patches , and G3 altho a good game it still feels lacking ..

Which led me to jump back into Two Worlds 2

And TW2 is a better game in every conceivable way :

                                Graphics,Animations,Story,Combat,Crafting,Gear,Class Builds,World,Voiceovers,and immersion ...IMO

And Divinity 2 also is better than G3 in everyway ..

Now i am not wrting this to piss in anyones cornflakes , more to give folks options that may interest them after they play G3
