Why do people hate isometric?

For me it's more about the rest of the game. If what I want were available in isometric and not in full 3D I'd play the isometric game.
But 3D, 3rd person, is much more attractive and immersive.

    Once upon a time....

    So constrictive.
As I read through this thread, this is what I was looking for. I don't "hate" isometric view games, I just feel very "constricted" when I play them, especially "fixed isometric" (if such a thing exists), where one can't even move the camera at all, thus hiding much of the area.

I play them and even enjoy some of them. I'm trying to stay within the definition @Quizzical helpfully provided and I think Shadowrun is isometric, as the models do not change (I think) as one scrolls in or out. I really enjoy that series, but the view keeps it from being a "higher up" favorite.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I love isometric games myself, always have, and always will.
