The First Fifteen Minutes Gameplay - Sea of Thieves Videos - MMORPG.com

Sea of Thieves' closed beta opened today, with the NDA dropped and us here at MMORPG.com diving in. It's definitely a beta, as bugs and lack of direction or content seemed to be prevalent, but there was also an air of pure fun in the exploration and social gameplay. Whether or not it feels like a complete experience at launch remains to be seen.

How do you honestly hope to play/participate in this game if you're not in a "clan" or other social group?  I game when I have time.  Rarely does it fit into a nice schedule of a specific time on any day of the week.

To be fair, they say the bulk of content isn’t in Alpha or Beta. We will see if that’s true.

Yeah, like Torval said, the game looks great, the art style and all that. But that video nor the information I've seen about this game interest me enough to purchase it atm.

I had a blast during Alpha. But just tried playing 3 times and no one has a mic so hard to communicate even with the ingame chat commands. I wish you could select only group with others that have mic.

Weeell this might not be the game for you, and that’s ok.

yes you can play solo or less than 4 in a group.... they have smaller boats than can be ran solo or with 2 to 3 players
folks not using their mics does make it hard to communicate though
this isn't a fast paced game ala CoD or what not... it is a blast piloting or running ship aground while looking for treasure or other players to hijack

I tried with a group but had no idea what I was doing so I decided to try solo. That's when things started to make sense.

I don't know if you did this or not but you get quest from the NPCs at the dock when you start off. Its a guy with a half mask on his face. He works for the Gold Horder faction. The quest you get from the faction npcs are called Voyages. Once you get that you then go to your ship and look on that table at 1:48 in the video.

That is where you will have to accept the quest. If you have a crew you have to vote on which quest to do at that table. Once the quest is decided you will then get a small map showing you what island you need to sail to and will also show you where on the island you should find the quest item. You then use the large map on the ship to locate the island and go there.

the streamers I watched play seemed to have a lot of fun but you really want to be in groups of 4. And yeah, it will likely get old fast without progression system and more frequent battles

Good graphics, not too detailed, I like that. Gameplay seems a little limited though

I haven't played, my impressions are from videos.

First problem i see is what many others said - lack of meaningful progression.
The second one is that i think after the initial excitement of the combat wears, then the players will discover that the optimal "profitable" way to play is to do your own stuff and not engage in risky and time consuming battles.

as it sits right now ... its not worth anywhere near $60 ... so without huge ad campaign and getting lots and lots of streamers involved on all platforms to get the hype up they will tank...

i simply do not see the future for this game on PC ... especially with skull and bones coming soon.

Why are you paying $60 bucks when it comes with Microsofts all access (whatever it's called) for $10 monthly.  Sub for a month to see if you like it before buying.  Apparently, for people like me, this game is going to suck and is a complete waste of the devs time as I will either have to PUG it or play some little ship no one cares about.  Sid Meyer's Pirates did this better years ago.  Should have just made that multi-player. 

For instance, I can run a ship of the line but I take a hit to my combat/sailing/etc of say -30%.  If people group up, each person adds +10% up to x amount.

That way even solo's can participate (if limited).

I think Sea Of Thieves launches March 20. Just get Game Pass for $9.99 that day and you get access to all of Microsoft Studios games including Sea Of Thieves for a month. Then just go to the Windows Store and download it for PC or Xbox. If you have an Xbox of course you can also download it there too.



I recommend playing your first game solo to learn the basics.
