So I used to visit this forum every single day, racking up a large post count etc.. and one of the common complaints I heard, was there were no old games like UO that MEANT something when you died, or that had a rich crafting system, everything was a hand-hold themepark.
Well recently (about two weeks ago) I ran across: Life is feudal.. and it is fantastic.
In depth crafting system
mold-able world
physics based PVP
hunting
gathering
mining
base building
Just wondering why this game isn't more popular? here in the US/NA there are only about 4-5,000 people on at a given time.

Sounds like you've played it. How was the skill system messy? (real question)

I have 50 hours logged on Your Own but I quit and uninstalled it when I realized that it would be more fun to do housework than continue playing the game. Literally 90% of the gameplay is watching loading bars and waiting to be able to initiate another loading bar. There's even a loading bar to equip items!
I haven't tried the MMO because I hear it's basically the same, except for the PvPers who will kill you and steal all the progress you've made.
All this isn't to say that the game didn't have good aspects - I found the quality system for crafting, the in-depth terraforming system, and the animal tracking system quite fun. In fact, I'd love to see a Life is Feudal clone with all the same systems, but where you play as a nobleman and get to command NPC peasants to do all the grindy stuff while you enjoy the fun parts of the game (architecture, hunting, combat, etc).
I don't enjoy crafting, so games strongly revolving around it aren't of much interest.
I mean crafting is fine if other people have to do it, but not if I'm strongly encouraged to do so.
I played EVE for 7 years earning all of income from shooting things, passive datacore generation (which required me to shoot lots of stuff to gain necessary faction), market trading (shooting others with ISK instead of lasers) etc.
When I finally turned to gathering, (year 7) I chose mining which again involved shooting things (rocks instead of ships)
See the pattern? Every now and then some idiot, er I mean corp mate would suggest everyone should focus on crafting something to "help the corp."
At this point I would just toss someone a billion or two to leave me alone, and failing that I would just evac my gear back to highsec in the middle of the night (I am awesome at multiboxing fleets of haulers through wormholes in rapid succession), drop corp and join another that wasn't full of crazy people.
So yeah, the heavy focus on dependent crafting and gathering is a turn off for me, not the sort of old school I'm looking for. (See DAOC2)
