Naivety at his best.
There's no naivety involved in knowledge. A number of people didn't know about this, now they do. That's essentially the crucial part of what a news organization does, and MMORPG.com is attempting to fulfill that role.
How people choose to react to this knowledge is where naivety can come into the equation, and from looking at these responses, I don't see many people naively accepting this news. Most everyone seems to be questioning aspects of this announcement. I may have missed a few responses, but naivety doesn't really categorize what I've seen here.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
This whole thing comes across as one of those ideas you come up with when you're drunk with your friends talking about the glory days. Only maybe slightly less thought out.
Can't blame the site for reporting news though. If you want to blame this site for anything, blame them for having forums where users have shown time and time again that they will throw money at any specious project, no matter how poorly thought out or roadmapped, or how virtually impossible it might be on a proposed budget, then make excuses for the project that has taken their money and not delivered.
It's not them, it's us. On almost every single complaint about anything here.

I say good. If people want to piss their money away let them.
There have always been people who think they can bypass some system or buy a bridge or "whatever". In some cases they can bypass a system or "buy a bridge" but usually it's just throwing their money away.
What this amounts to is a human interest story. Nothing more at this point.

I agree completely. Basically just saying don't kill the messenger.
I can't even really blame these guys for trying. The market has shown itself to be viable time and again lately. I've been checking on it and was a little surprised when I saw someone had donated. Then I came back here and I wasn't surprised any more.

Fair enough, if only Suzi , would of specifically wrote in the article basic info about this kids. What Suzi did was to copy/paste whatever they wrote on that KS page and call it "News". That's not pro at all.
But then again, since few years ago , a lot of 'News' like this has come up on mmorpg.com .
Pathetic.

The level of pure SJW in this thread is ridiculous. It's news, what you do with the news is up to you. Not me making up your mind or you making up my mind. If someone supports the project that is on them, not Suzie. Christ, kill the messenger.

Of course it's your right to comment. I don't believe I would ever say otherwise.
But ranting on the forums because there is a report of a group that is doing something you don't like doesn't really sell your case.
There are people who need to be protected from themselves.
but this was just a report on some group that wants to do something. They could be the most evil people on earth but until that story unfolds, no one has said (including this site) that we should all rush to their funding site and throw money at them. And apparently no one is doing it (very few, I'm sure it's friends/family or the people trying to get this money in order to make it seem that some are interested).
I'm not a big believe in censorship "in most cases". I certainly didn't think this story needed it as it was about a ridiculous attempt at trying to do something that will most likely not happen.

Face it, this "News" was just to get some buzz here. Don't make me look up for other News here, where Suzi or other did indeed do their job and wrote info about who's behind the project , what do they think of it, etc.
What I am talking, is not censorship. What I don't like is , a big site like mmorpg.com , thrown a shitty "News" and call it "News" without a bit of information about wtf is with this ..kids. I already wrote on a previous post of mine, that this kids are from Pakistan, Nepal, India and some other country. Now you would think that those might be some short of spectacular intelligent kids. No , they are not. This is yet again another "KS Project" , where someone wants to make fast and easy cash. If this kids were indeed good , they would of show us something else, beside a big wall of text and their "dream".
Maybe you , and others, don't "bite" this , but I am pretty sure that there might be some ...uninformed people around here, who will just think that this kids are serious and they might buy the game IP and "donate". If Suzi would indeed say much more about those kids, then people will get well informed and things might be different. Didn't you read that whatever sum of money is "donated" , they will keep it, even if the "project" is not successful ? THAT should ring lots of bells.

You are 100% correct in that there are people who would jump on something like this. Only, in truth, not many people did as they really haven't raised any money.
But no matter, "point was made".
The thing is, you want all "news" to be the level or "x diplomat was escorted out of x country because of y and z" when there is sometimes news that's just "young 16 year old finds love letter from 1912 in between walls of house".
Human interest stories are just that "human interest". It's interesting that a game that just closed down has a group (organization whatever) that wants to purchase it.
Just like it was interesting when people wanted to buy Ryzom and interesting when people wanted to buy City of Heroes.
In no place did mmorpg.com say "endorse this group". It was just "hey! FYI! This is happening!".
I'm a big believe in "fool me once" and I'm ok with people failing and learning from those mistakes. And if they don't? Then nothing is going to help them.
Now, had this site really endorsed going and giving them money then sure you would not only have a point but you would have a larger point of organizations not doing due diligence and influencing their readership.
But that's not what happened here.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

You can attack the staff all you want. If the KS page was deemed newsworthy by any news organization from your local broadcast news to any respected newspapers or electronic media, the very first thing any of the larger outlets would do is exactly what appeared on this site. So, if FOX news, or CNN or NBC/ABC/CBS had reported this, gathering information from the KS would be the first step. It's just not a big enough story for larger fish, but it right in the sweet spot for a site dedicated to news and discussion of MMORPG development.
If nothing else, the mention of this information on the MMORPG.com site has already driven considerable discussion. They make income from things like page views and click-throughs and advertisements. I hope you've participated in earning some income for the site today.
If information of various kick starter projects is verboten from the MMORPG.com news feed, they might as well close their doors. Is that what you really want?
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

How on Earth did you find all that information out? Due diligence? Like anyone should do on almost anything they read or hear, yet so many don't any more?
If you know so many people that should be protected from themselves you would probably be better served sharing your own due diligence with them than trying to tell other people they should be protecting people from themselves.
Do it well and you might get your own comic books and movie.
Be it MMO or games as service, this is all about making money over time. Is 900k a plausible asking price? Any IP holder wants the money they expected to make over time, say 10 years. How much did they expect to make per year, lets say $60 million. So they want $60 M/year x 10 years = $600M. This is counter by saying they game was only making 1% of that. The IP holder counter with, ok then half $300M. I can't even imagine the negotiations beyond this point, but lets assume he final price is some where between $200M & $100M. Just to acquire the rights to the IP and possibly the assets and code. Again pulling number out of thin air, I would add another $50M to cover the necessary hardware and expertise to operate and maintain the game.
So I expect the "Community" to come up with $250M plus another $2M a year to keep the game running. That isn't going to happen, not with so many Play 4 Free gamers.

Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
They should just rework it a little and release it as a single player game, with MP options IMO.
it would cost millions to rewrite all of the code to not use client/server interactions. and frankly, the content was barely worth doing with other players. it would be terribly boring solo
It would cost nothing to set up a local server and client.
Like running your own minecraft server and connecting to it on your local machine.
oh really? I don't think you realize what you are talking about.
MMO servers are far more complex beasts. that's all I'll say
I do know what I am talking about and there is no need to pay millions of dollars to rewrite client/server code.
Examples: every volunteer team that did emulated servers for any MMORPG. Wow, SWG, Shadowbane, UO, etc etc... I could set up a server on my local machine and connect. All you usually have to change or set up it a server address and port number.

that assumes people captured all of those packets and have the thousands of man hours from people will to do the leg work. time=money
You specifically used minecraft as your example, which is probably the worst example you could have made.
Even if people put the time to backwards engineer all of the server code, which isn't trivial at all, the game was left in a horrible state. If disney waited just a few more months they at least would of had scaleable omega difficulty dungeons and loot to work with.
MH was simply too niche to get the kind of people looking to make their own servers, especially since the game was F2P to begin with so the incentive to do so was much lower.

Look at you slamming someone for misinformation and not doing their research, and yet you're slandering Kickstarter by calling this a KS project. It isn't on Kickstarter, son, it's on Indiegogo. Shit! That was even in the article and everything.

I'm not a big believe in censorship "in most cases". I certainly didn't think this story needed it as it was about a ridiculous attempt at trying to do something that will most likely not happen.
So "yeah" human interest story, no more, no less.

Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy?
Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!

If you know so many people that should be protected from themselves you would probably be better served sharing your own due diligence with them than trying to tell other people they should be protecting people from themselves.
Do it well and you might get your own comic books and movie.
Or a character in this game.
So I expect the "Community" to come up with $250M plus another $2M a year to keep the game running. That isn't going to happen, not with so many Play 4 Free gamers.
Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
Examples: every volunteer team that did emulated servers for any MMORPG. Wow, SWG, Shadowbane, UO, etc etc... I could set up a server on my local machine and connect. All you usually have to change or set up it a server address and port number.

Try a MUD today at http://www.mudconnect.com/You specifically used minecraft as your example, which is probably the worst example you could have made.
