Axongrid - The quality of BBG's and an attempt to improve.

Abbrevations used:
BBG = Browser Based Game
TTG = Table Top Game

If this is the wrong forum for a post like this, just move it or something :)

This topic is a little about the quality of BBG's out there. It's a decreasing market, and not much is being done to re-establish the good reputation BBG's once had.

I'm myself rather surprised there's room for so many BBGs out there. I see games with several thousands of users, and yet they all look the same. Oftern the layout is horrible, the content is weak - at best, there's no such thing as images, and the administrators are not rarely of the worst kind. The point, afterall, is as any game - The user must enjoy it. He must feel as a part of it, he must understand the importance of the role he is playing.

What is it that keeps all of those BBG's going? Rhetorical, unanswered question.

Let me introduce Axongrid.

Axongrid is a turn-based strategy game played in your browser. It is based on the universe of Mutant Chronicles, which is the intellectual property of Paradox Entertainment.

Not very impressed? Well, I wouldn't be either. There are tons of "browser based games" out there. I mean, everyone can make one.
- But think about it. What we have attempted to do with Axongrid is to create something fresh and unique. We have put a lot of work into making it something special.

Mutant Chronicles is an old, respected and well-known RPG universe. There have been TTGs, pen and paper RPGs, computer games, and even great plans on making a hollywood movie out of it (still are). What we wanted to do, was to bring this to every user. We wanted to make it easy to access, to everyone. We wanted everyone to be able to feel parts of the magic of the Mutant Chronicles Universe. We contacted the owners of this universe/concept and managed to become licensees. Axongrid is therefor a legal title, using everything with permission.

We emphasized layout and design, content and dynamics, to create a unique kind of BBG that's kind to the eye, yet accessible from everywhere. This has been lacking in many games, but hopefully Axongrid will help turning the trend. Make it a better community.

The basics are simple, but it takes effort to master the game. They say; a simple game for a simple mind. Well, Axongrid isn't a simple game.

Be sure to check everything out, we like comments and try to answer as much as we can. The reason our playercount is so small, is that some of the "core" testers were too eager on getting more players, they told everyone too early. Ergo, people were annoyed with early-in-development bugs, and one by one left us. I hope things are more stable at this point, and that there's potential for a steady and mature community to grow around the game.

---

It has been 27 long years here on Cascadus. I do not know how I have evaded death all these years. Did you know that the average Cascadus citizen dies at the age of 30? The endless wars, assassinations, viral attacks, starvation and sicknesses sure rage the planet, without mercy. I am suprised that we have not yet wiped out the entire population.

We are the abandoned people. We are the people who stayed behind for various different reasons. Cascadus is a corrupt planet and it feels as if the light fades away more and more for each passing day. It's a descending spiral.

The once mighty megacorporations have crumbled into several small factions that fight over the last remaining resources on this forsaken planet. Many of the corporations have lost their true way and have brought forth even more chaos. No longer is the Brotherhood the light of humanity and no longer is Mishima the warriors of honor. I can't help but to feel that there's something on this planet that affects the minds of these once honorful warriors. It turns them into greedy and corrupt men. Can it have something to do with the Brotherhood? The reason why they originally came to this planet? I will probably not hear the answer to my question before I perish. Maybe it doesn't matter.

Not much is known about the outside world, the world outside Cascadus. Our only hope for survival is to once again rediscover the secret to space travel, the knowledge that brought us here in the first place. Much of the equipment we use today was made decades ago. The knowledge of creating them was lost long ago and we still have a long road to walk before we once again can fly in the sky and ascend into space. For now, we are birds without wings.

    Could have labelled it Axongrid ---AVERTISEMENT--- lol but i will check the game out as you took the time to write such a nicely put advertisement :). Also out of curiousity, you say the mutant chronicle is a well known rpg universe, i can't say i have heard of it at all, what other games came out based on this?

    Hehehe... It's not only advertisement!

    Well, I'm not an expert in previous releases, but they made Warzone games (Warzone is more or less the same thing as Mutant Chronicles), Mutant Chronicles Online (think it was cancelled), Warzone 2100.... And I'm sure there's alot of old(er)-school games to be included in this list too. They also made the Doomtrooper CCG (Collectible Card Game).

    Wasn't warzone the rts where you  could fully control all of your units and like fire with them? This will bug me now as i am sure i have played it but can't quite fully remember.

    that was a dig at me.. i get the message... :) Yes, you could probably *fully* control all of your units and fire with them. Doesn't sound too rare for an rts. As I said, there have been many types of games made within the Mutant Chronicles Universe. But I wouldn't be surprised if this is the first MMO, even though it merely being browser based.
