imageFuncom Teasing Mysterious Game Announcement for February 28th - MMORPG.com News

Funcom has sent out a mysterious note leading to a cryptic page with a countdown leading to February 28th. The message reads that the company will be announcing a new game on that day. When visiting the site, "Countdown2Zero.com", viewers are presented with a scene in a bar with four silhouetted characters named Pripp, Selma, Dux and Bormin. The bar appears to be in a modern setting with fluorescent lights hanging from the ceiling. Clearly this isn't another Conan game...

I felt there was more news coming from this house when they implemented a 5-1 reverse split 2 weeks ago .... And i believe more news will follow this

I love Funcom's ideas for games. They do have the best ideas.

^^^^^^^Both of these would probably tempt me to buy this game...even though Funcom absolutely destroyed my opinion of them after that miserable Conan MMO launch years ago.

One top hat a steampunk game doth not make ! :D

It's quite obviously a post-apoc setting, just look at the props in the bar. Everything in there is "modern", but worn and broken down...

There's a survival backpack on the floor, leaning against a stack of military-looking gun cases. Weapons are important to these people.

A stop-sign against the wall on the left. On the right is a Guinness sign hanging from the ceiling. Salvaged materials from "The Zone" ?

And then there's the text for the bar pic: "Booze helps when coming back from the Zone, but it does not last…"

Plus the webpage has a biohazard symbol next to the tab title...

Not that you can predict these things or anything but here goes:

Pripp: Is a former army veteran, a bald, grizzled looking somewhat cynical sort who dispenses wisdom with a rum on the rocks.

Selma: Is a confident, sassy girl who cheers the party up all the time. Did I mention she is confident?

Dux: Is an eccentric down-on-his-luck toff, he will say things like "indubitably" a lot.

Bormin: Is a strong, loyal type; maybe human like, rather than human. He is a gruff no-nonsense sort.

Well only time will tell how right I am. :D

They've redeemed themselves with Conan Exiles, which is an excellent game even in Early Access :)

I'm aiming at the post-A setting but in a world that has it's roots in fantasy tropes and steampunk/apoc-punk influences... Magic? maybe, or high tech that mimics it enough for it to be interchangeable..I'd almost say Deadlands and the Wasted West if they had the IP

I get a strong Borderlands meets Mad Max vibe when I look at the website.
    My first thought was "Fallout"...

Perhaps they've repurposed the Conan Exiles engine and built a zombie/mutant shooter ?

Funcom wants to get a taste of Overwatch/LoL and e-sports. Going to be either a squad FPS or another damn MOBA.

If it's another gd MOBA or survival game, I'm going to lose my shit and go spider monkey jacked up on Mountain Dew on them.

Better enjoy the hype because, given past experiences, it may well be all down hill from here.

Maybe something like Penny Dreadful. Hunters hunting down classic monsters like Dracula etc.

Anyone else hoping for a Victorian era Diablo style ARPG?

Maybe a trailer to announce an end-time MMO and the characters tell their stories? :o

It's my birthday. They should just tell me. EDIT: Countdown to Zero likely refers to the Doomsday clock, with that bio symbol on the website icon. And those folks and the bar definitely looks... beat or post-apocalyptic. I'm betting on a post-apocalyptic online co-op shooter RPG with a leaning towards loot and crafting.

There are little bubbles floating around throughout the image. Interesting.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Because I liked AO so much I keep hoping Funcom creates AO2, but they keep coming out with other junk instead.

DING DING DING. I bet this. What kind of game? Traditional CRPG to match the IP, or more "modern" as an Action game?

My bet is either on a modernized traditional CRPG (like Divinity Original Sin) or a Diablo style game. Either way would fit that IP well (I think), be well within Funcom's financial ability to develop, capitalize on the resurging popularity of those genres, and not compete with their existing games.
