Oh this is Entropia Universe, Entropia is a real-cash MMO (literally putting up and withdrawing money from and to the the virtual world).

So highly not recommended, ends as being a casino under a virtual world in a way.

Should have created a crypto-currency specifically for the game: it takes just few hours to clone open-source ones (like Litecoin) and if the game itself will go down then the coins will have a chance to become a multi-million asset during next rush anyway.

Some people say that these types of games are nothing more than elaborate tools that were made to embezzle money.

Who the heck would play Entropia? Makes absolutely no sense.

I used to play it and I liked it for a time.

Yes, everything costs real money. But the game was honest about it, and it made real money a part of gameplay. I much prefer Entropia's approach over item shop games where real money makes good stuff magically appear.

Yeah but Entropia should fall under gambling regulations.

Because to ever earn profit and not face loss on your money, everything is tied to one RNG factor leading to either financial gain or loss.

It has the clear hook of a casino, I stopped playing when I realized I had spent more money than I ever did on any other game before.

I don't think I've ever seen a game demo loaded with so many buzz words that never got to the point.

This is a more finished game than Star Citizen.  It already has...space flight...space combat...actual planet combat and seamless planet travel...a huge universe with various planets that aren't broken up into tiny instances...

Go play it then, or better, first you pay if you ever want to be able to get involved into space flight, then you pay if you want to get to do actually planet combat, then you also pay for those travels, in a huge paid universe that is not seamless and is broken into indeed instances.

Man just to think that without paying it took me dozens of hours collecting sweat from monsters to ever get to buy a gun to go kill some monsters until I realized I'm out of ammo and the loot I got wasn't enough to self-sustain it so I collected yet more sweat from monsters, then I bought more ammo, then the durability of the weapon I bought goes RIP (freaking durability on everything!) and then I realize, the game is torturing me until I put up money, and so I did, and then I could do stuff, for some time until the same loop begins again.

Is why having a currency that you can cash out for real cash can't be worth it without it be balanced to make you lose money, not win it (just like a casino).

So for me, SC incomplete, laggy and buggy alpha all the way over this. But ofc depends on the person, if one is willing to put up the money then Entropia works for them.

Or just buy the default game that comes with a ship that you can do everything that it involves, from the flight, ship combat, travel, landings, FPS combat, buying stuff for your character and ship and all that jazz.

None of the wich you can do on Entropia without putting up money upfront after you download it, to what they purposely add durability to everything to keep the sink.

Entropia is a casino that lets you have a few chips for free, the gameplay mechanics are meant as a gamble for profit, in a way that does not compare in the slightest to any other MMO I know.

It's not a scam really, you can call it an online casino that for sure but Entropia is quite clear as how it works when it comes to money, as what is implied with casinos, the "luck" factor to get good returns.

Because there are some people who do make money out of it, but like any casino, "for each winner, there are a thousand losers".

The game is an MMO which is wrapped around a slot machine basically.

I wouldn't recommend getting into the game unless you're going to go in hard and deposit real money. Don't do the bullshit like sweating for a few ammo to buy a gun to kill monsters and crap. That's just lame, you will make like 5-10 cents an hour sweating. Just put in $20 bucks and go from there.

The game is slot machine like, but there are ways to profit, you just have to be very smart about it and extraordinarily disciplined. Since, i am not disciplined, I lose.

The game is stacked against you to lose, there is no question about that, how else would they make money? There are three main professions in the game.

    Hunting: kill mobs
Mining: drop probes and wait a few seconds to see if you found anything
Crafting: craft things and see what you make, what blueprints drop, what you get lucky
You can also heal, be a hairdresser etc

I do all three because I am undisciplined. For me the reason I play is because I can actually take something out of the game.

It is a game where if you play it well, you can actually profit from it or at least break even. It is hard to do it. I talk to a lot of people and some people have never deposited in the game and are worth thousands (started early, very rare), others have put in thousands but own land and use the game as an investment, others play because they like the game and don't care about how much they spend. A lot of people are net positive in the game, but most are net negative especially if you play like a fool like I do.

The game has pretty decent graphics on a nice setup, has good freedom, sandboxish, lots to do. I like it but I do take long breaks from it. This time when I take a break, i'll have about $1-2k invested in land deeds, so i'll be bringing in a few bucks a month. With the setup, I have now, I bring in $8 per month from the game.

I do not recommend this game freely. I would only recommend it to people who have money to burn and can control their addictions. There's one guy in-game who lost net $100,000, everyone knows him because he talks about it. He went in and went the purely gambling way. He probably cycled 10 million peds and at 90-95% return, after cycling that much you're close to 1 million peds lost which is $100,000.

Getting back to who I would recommend the game to, you need to have deep pockets and put in a lot to weather the peaks and waves. I would start by putting in $50 or 60 to start, reading up about it and learning the "economic" way to play. Once, you've learned the play and can make your peds last a very long time, then deposit more and go from there. The goal is not to gamble, but to set up your adventure in the way that has the best statistic way to break even or make a profit. There are times where I do a 3-4k click crafting run but I know that with my calculations, I'm statistically going to break even. You will lose if you try to strike it big on a losing proposition. A lot of people will craft explosive projectiles which will have a net return of 95%ish if you take the limit to infinity. Some people in one week will profit like 20k peds, but they may lose in other weeks, but overall, you will lose over time if you keep doing it.

My problem with the game is, i like to play and then i feel like i'm playing for profit, which is dumb, because I just work extra and make money without the chance of losing it (minus my wife spending it all).

    Sincerely,

    Cryomatrix
p.s. The best profession is to be a market trader. But you need to start with $5k usd perhaps and just buy low on the market and sell high for 1-2% higher and over time you will make money. It is just too slow and I never have enough capital to make it worth it. With the few peds i have, i'll be spending like 2 minutes to make the equivalent of 20 cents. Just not worth it, but it is a nice way to stay afloat if i had discipline.

Actually, you first paid without seeing a picture of the game, so who played at the "casino"?

And , Entropia Universe is a F2P game. You first try it for free. You like it? You pay to progress. Don't want to pay ? Keep playing the game for free.

I .. can't say the same about your .. demo game.

I played Entropia years ago for awhile, guess I didn't get far enough to sense the "casino" aspect of it. I did see that the bottom-tier ways of making PEDs wasn't going to cut it. Still I could have lived with being poor in-game as well as in real life, but I got to a point where I seemed to have nothing left to do but one mission, and that was apparently suicidal. Maybe that's where the money comes in -- buy a tank or something. I'd gotten into the game because it was advertised as "open" and "sandbox" and "you can do what you want, go your own direction, so when I was left with only one course of action, viable or not, I just lost interest.

And hey, people pay $60 upfront for games, and I paid $15/mo subscription for City of Heroes. I think what rankles people about this game is that it makes a big deal about how their currency can be turned into real money, and people go in expecting to MAKE money instead of spending it. People will put a lot of money into casinos, hoping for a big payout, but it sounds like this is like taking a job and then finding out your paycheck gets run through a slot machine first.

Still, looks like they've made some improvements. I think I might give it a try and see if I can live as a beach bum or a crazy old coot of the mountains.
