I see they promise to improve FPS, but until it doubles, i can't see myself playing. Checked yesterday, and game still runs like ass on lowest settings.
Are you sure your rig is up to the task?
Yeah that's usually the problem.  Now they are constantly working on load times and improving performance, it's still not optimized for release yet.  Should be better when that happens.

But... there are a lot of players that don't take the requirements seriously.  They are using a modified Unity engine as well.  Different engines perform differently for various games. Cant really compare one and say, "Well it runs fine on this, why not this?", when you ignore the system requirements. They have them for a reason.

Also, if you're running older equipment... like a economy/E-machine laptop from 10 years ago... yeah expect problems.  If you're running old rigs with 8 year old video cards and 4-8gb of ram, then yeah, you're going to have problems in some areas (especially high density areas like Brittany Alleys).

The staff at Portalarium can tweak the game a hundred times over and it won't fix your problems if you have an old computer/parts and don't meet the minimum requirements.  And if you DO meet the minimum requirements, that does not mean it plays the best or as well as those who can handle max settings with no problems.  I don't think people really understand that concept.

Haters are gonna hate and trolls will troll.

The Minute you say this is the minute no one is going to listen to you period.   People on these forums and on the SOTA forums explained time and time again what needs to be done to fix this game.   These people who want to see things fixed get shouted down as haters and trolls.   I paid for the game and I regret doing so.  The Combat sucks, I cannot stand playing a game where combat is based on random card drawn from a deck of cards.  If the game just gave you abilities like current UO I would be happy with that.

Also people like myself hate the cash shop.  While you say its not P2W to charge someone $12,000 for a player run city, I can tell you there are a lot of people who will not play because of this garbage.   Just make the game B2P with an optional sub like ESO if you dont want to be full P2P.

Also dont get me started on the world.  Just make the whole world and open world, not a world you move from instance to instance.  This makes the world fell empty and uninspiring.

Yet like the people on the forums you will throw close minded hate towards people who do not like what the game has become because this is no where near UO.  Hell I just recently been playing UO and the game plays better than this recently developed game.   LoA looks better than SOTA as well.   But dont listen to potential players about their feelings and thoughts just listen to people who are in their echo chamber who in the end will wonder why the game is dead.  Then they have to come here and defend there game.

And yet you and they listened :) Haha

Its ok, we get that you hate everything about the game and don't want to spend money and hate that people do. Apparently this game is not for you.

This game looks far, far, far better than UO so i'm not sure what you're trying to say other than troll and do flame wars on a game you sound like you're paid to hate??? Hmm If you think old UO looks better than SotA then you must be playing on an old 486 with a VGA monitor. The graphics are wonderful especially if you have a decent video card and monitor that can support the resolutions, saturations, and lighting effects.

A lot of the stuff that you point out has been worked over many times. Seems you do not know anything about the latest versions of the game. Perhaps you should try it. But if you're pouting because its not an FPS shooter and you keep posting that you want combat to be that way on the forums does not mean its not a good game nor does it mean they don't listen to their player base. This is probably one the best development groups that listens to players.... ALL THE TIME. They are constantly bending over backwards to please everyone.

Anyways, good luck and I hope you find the game you're looking for and it's everything you wanted it to be.
Not 1 thing you said here makes sense.   This is exactly why SOTA is failing and will not be around long.   You know what gets me about you people?  Is you play a game that has an extremely low population and come to the MMORPG forums complaining how people dont like your game and are trolls.   Yet people like myself tell you Exactly what needs to be done and we get told we are trolls and the game is not for us.  Yet you beg and plead with people to play a game that is a pile of crap.

Lets just take what you are saying about combat not being like FPSs.   Did I mention anything about FPS or anything that resembles a FPS?  No.  But you throw shit at the wall hoping it will stick.   If you would READ and make an effort to understand what I said.  "  The Combat sucks, I cannot stand playing a game where combat is based on random card drawn from a deck of cards.  If the game just gave you abilities like current UO I would be happy with that."

What did I say, I dont like the randomness of my abilities in combat.  I like having set abilities like UO does, these are not Random abilities they are abilities based on your skill and weapon.   So what am I saying.  Give me a set of X number of abilities and let me choose what I want to use when, NOT based on randomly which card I pulled from a deck of cards.

If you would read and comprehend you would understand why I stay far away from this game.  And yes I bought the game and played it already for 50 or so hours?  So yes I know what I am talking about.   Coming to these forums only makes SOTA look like crap.  People pick this up from all your post.

You are the one that comes here and calls everyone a troll or a hater who has anything they disagree with the direction of this game on period.   You are the one with all the negativity.  I personally do not care one bit if this game successes or fails.  I give my opinion about what I think are the major problems with this game.   Again Yes you can lock your skills in, However its still combat system with the mind set of a magic the gathering type mind set.  Again I do not like it.

What about other things I do not like.  I dont like the over world then an instanced area?   I want more of a UO, SWG, Ashes of Creation type game.   I am personally tired of instanced zones.  Again you say its this great game yet people like my disagree and do not want this type of world anymore.   You still call us trolls and haters.  BTW you sound exactly like the dozens of backers on the official forums that say the same thing you are saying.  We are trolls or haters if we dont drink the kool aid.

What I will say that is good about the game is that I love the idea of owning a home and putting a vendor out front to sell stuff.  I would love to sit and craft for hours and have people buy my crafted items.  I love the idea of a non liner quest grinder like WOW.   I love the idea of a Sandbox MMORPG that is main focus is PVE.

However again my 3 main problems with this game still stand and they are enough to keep a UO Vet away from SOTA.  And no the official forums are filled with people like you who do not listen and tell people off when you dont agree with them.   This is why this game will not work.

First they need to change the way the combat works for me to consider coming back

Second they need to dumb the overworld and make it one huge world which would take me 2 or more hours to run across.

Third they need to scrap the current cash shop.  Go the ESO B2P with an optional sub and a cosmetic cash shop if you need to.

Last get rid of the offline mode and just make it a open world MMORPG just like UO is.

You can keep blasting me all you want.  What I am looking for is what a lot of MMORPGs are looking for today and SOTA does not offer us this.   Just look at Ashes of Creation and Pantheons popularity right now and what they are offering.

I haven't seen anyone mention the asteroid that's been getting closer for the last couple of months, and is now huge and spewing meteors non-stop. Something big is happening soon.

Asteroid Update... it's getting really close...

As someone who did not play UO and was a avid EQ gamer since 99, I absolutely love this game. Like someone said above, there really is nothing like it right now. It has actually got me looking into Ultima Online lore and gameplay to better understand Richards vision. I am not here to argue with anyone.. your opinion is yours.. However, I rarely comment here and wanted to say to anyone who loved EQ and "old school" rpg elements, give the game a try.

The SOTA Discord is chalk full of REALLY great people that have helped me tremendously while I figure out the game. This game has severe depth in both combat, crafting and housing... something that is missing from todays MMO's.. DEPTH.

Something about going around and trying to figure out quests and NPC's without any hand holding is just very intriguing to me. As an example, NPC names dont show up above their heads until you go talk to them and actually type out "what is your name"... what other mmo gives you that feeling?

I find it fascinating to have such a deep combat and skill system.. learning it as I play has been amazing.

Try the game yourself if you are on the fence. Yes, there are some bugs and a little clunky-ness right now, but I think that will be ironed out soon.

hummm a paid person to come here and try to hype up a game and this is his first post ever on MMORPG.com?  Does this not look odd to you?  Especially for a game where overwhelmingly people dislike the game with honest criticism of the game?   O and their Reddit got shut down because the toxic community of the player base trying to brow beat people who made any negative criticism of the game.   Sorry man but you sound like Brugas who just came here the other day and trying the same BS.   You wouldnt be him making a second account would you?

O and anyone that thinks I am the only one who is critical about this game.

LazyPeon did a video in 2016 and the comments are overwhelming against the game.

Here is another review on the game.

    Again overwhelmingly bad comments.

    Here is a recent video.

All bad reviews.   It even shows that the game population is very low when you look at how long items been on the vendor.    During my UO days and SWG days.   I never had any items last longer than 30 days on my vendors.  My crafted gear in both games always sold in days.   How is it gear is on the vendor from August?  Simple the game population is so low that not enough players play to have a player run economy.

I'm willing to give new visitors to the forums a welcome and willing to consider their points and perspectives.

Besides @bgzgamer doesn't come across nasty enough to be Brughas.

    ;)

Also I see no reason to shout down someone offering a positive perspective nor compare it to old reviews.

If someone is currently playing today and wants to share their in game experiences both good and bad as it moves through launch I will welcome them.

I'll usually give a game a pass until it gets into Release only because I know there can be a massive delta depending on what they've got in there for debugging, etc. Honestly, when Wildstar was in it's initial beta, I had a laptop I was running it on that couldn't get 6 fps out of it on the lowest settings. Following release, I'm 60fps on mid settings all day long.

That being said, I would probably have expected to see better performance by now, too. Especially considering the release model (Early Access). I'll hold my final judgement until after release though.

I wish they would fix the combat.   I just cannot get into the card system.   Just give me progression in a set tree and these abilities.   While you can lock your deck, let me have 2 or 3 skill bars and I will set all my abilities.

I also really do not like the overworld system.  It feels too empty.   I spent 50 hours playing in the summer of 2016 and god I came across 1 person in that entire time.    I wanted to craft in this game but seeing how low the population is what is the point of crafting.  Much like why I will not craft in UO.  There is no point when the population is so low.

I would support the game again if they shut it down rebuild the world, fix the combat and make it a P2P game.   I would be game for that.   In its current state it feels way too much like Minecraft on a solo server.
