It's a good year to be a pirate! With Sea of Thieves literally just days away, Rare is pulling out all the stops with a brand new game play launch trailer. It shows off character and ship customization, fighting, exploring, sailing, a kraken and...a pig.

The latest beta ran so much better, i remember my 1070 not able to run the game at decent frames at 2560x1080 but now i'm running 3440x1440 and the game ran pretty smooth at 60fps with a mix of highest setting and high.
Biggest con: Only Windows 10, no Windows 7, so I am out, not switching to Win10 for this game.
In general what I have seen so far it is a nice game to have fun with friends. Not so sure about solo and it might get repetitive/boring after some time.
I never did see the "Order of Souls" trading company, which gives the combat missions. Perhaps the would help. Also only having access to the low level Voyages (quests) also probably made it feel that way?
Regardless I spent several hours at least and was impressed with everything, aside from it feeling a lil empty. Learning how everything works was very fun.
The fights with other players was fun. It didn't happen a lot but it is fun to see other ships and wonder what is going to happen. The ship battles are awesome and I am sure I only saw a small portion of that. With everything that can and has to be done during those fights it is a real highlight.
The game has a ton of potential. I will keep an eye on it. Also I think it may be part of some $10/month sub for Xbox and PC. If that is the case then that may be the best way to look at it after release.
After my weekend with it I wasn't convinced to plop $60 down on it. The world felt a lil empty and joining with friends was a pain. The invite system in game did not work often on PC. The best way, that I found, was to have one person get to the invite screen in game. Then have the other friends click on his/her Xbox profile and join game. No invites sent out.
I will watch post launch and see how it goes. They certainly nailed the water, sailing and boat combat.
I am going to wait until the day after release and then sign up for game pass for 14 days free to try it out. If that is fun I will sub for a month ($10US I think) rather than pay $80CDN. I also understand that if you are subbed to gamepass you get a cheaper cost on the game? We will see.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
The time I was attacked I hid on the side of his boat on the ladder (after he sunk my ship) until I got to the port and grabbed his chest.
The other time I was on a crew of 4 and we were attacked by 4. They sent 3 over and we mostly stayed but then two of us went to their ship. . then I DCd (alpha)
It was fun but repetitive. I would imagine after working for a few hours someone sinking your ship with the loot on it would be frustrating. . but that risks makes the rewards more exciting when you make it. It won't be for everyone. Try it free on release. I couldn't stop playing myself.

A couple of quick notes.
Fighting and Sailing requires team work. This isnt a solo game. Can you play it solo? Sure. But be prepared to be easily ganked and you won't have access to some of the bigger rewards. I played solo for a bit and it felt like a grind. Once I started playing with other people I had a lot of fun.
Everyone (during the beta) was on equal footing in terms of weapons and ships. So you can you can jump right in and not feel like you are 50 levels behind. The gold you receive from quests is all for cosmetic items...no no "bigger/better" weapons armors or ships to buy, but you can sure make them look better. There are no blockers from grouping, so if someone has better reputation with a faction than you do, you still get to take part in the voyages(quests) and reap the rewards.
If you are ganked...even when in a group...its actually not as bad in other games...they may steal a chest from your or a quest item(they stole my chickens!) but most items you get in the game don't take more than 20-30 mins to get AT MAX. So the loss doesn't hurt as much as you might think....Now if you spent 3 hours grinding chests and didnt turn them in and got ganked for them...thats your own fault lol
The PvP battles are actually fun...im more of a PvE player but in this game PvP > PvE, probably because the PvE combat is one dimensional, and difficulty only means that the skellys have more hitpoints. PvP, especially ship to ship combat, is a blast (pun intended). And because death isn't harsh you have fun winning or losing...but winning and stealing loot...that takes the cake.
Bugs: The only bug I experienced was an issue where you got locked up in an shopping menu or dialogue screen. Had to alt-f4 to get out. Other than that every think ran well. Performance. I ran 4k, on a 980ti with no problems. Most other people reported the game ran fine and looked great. (the water is awesome btw, probably the best dynamic water I have seen in any game ever)
Out of curiosity why not upgrade to windows 10? Not only for this game but in general...
A guess, he's part of a dying breed that thinks windows 7 is more superior/stable. Ya I don't get it either, there is physical evidence saying otherwise. If you game and you aren't on Win10 you are doing yourself a huge disservice in every part of the word.
Lol, it's a pirate game for goodness sakes....you wanted to walk around giving all the other players hugs? You don't even lose anything unless you have treasure aboard and your ship can be instantly summoned back.....
it looks less like a gank fest and more like a fun game to explore with a few friends....and it isn't a niche anymore....PvP is bigger than it has ever been....if anything you are the niche now....the days of boring theme parks are coming to an end.
Also i have enough games giving me adrenaline, got this one to relax with

Anyone forming a pirate crew and needs an old salty sea dog?
I might buy it if I can find a good crew
maybe he doesn't want microsoft data mining his info....
Some people actually like privacy and doesn't want someone else making a profit off his info...
Just a thought.
