I bought the game, played about 3 hours, If you can get past the graphics, it's a great game with HUGE Flaws.. I couldn't zone into another area unless i put my graphics all the way down. The Main starting town's frame rate is terrible.
If you loved Asheron's Call, and old School EQ/EQ2, then you'll enjoy the game. But getting past the graphics is the first big step.
I would say if you have a choice of the two and want the one with, care, and thought put into it, with true professionals, a more open world, and is cleverly done on a very small budget, pick Project Gorgon. The graphics aren't the best but if you loved Asheron's Call back in the day this may for you, although I wouldn't say it's the updated Asheron's Call sort of game I've been waiting for. They put a lot into this game with a shoestring budget. Whereas Sota having the what 12-18million dollar budget? In my opinion, doesn't look or play like it has much planning and focus (unless you count cash shop lots went into that, gameplay not so much)put into it when you try and play it and it doesn't look like it had millions thrown at it either even though it did. I tried and waited for Sota to get better year after year but it never did for me.
If you want a korean grinder style game with heavy RMT, overpriced cash shop items, you like sitting and waiting constantly for loading screens, and a clunky combat system choose Sota. Of course Sota does have a free trial so I'd suggest to try that before buying it. In my opinion, Sota is just not worth paying money for, you can see all it offers with free trial. Both games are kind of old school flashback from the early 2000's and neither have the best of graphics if that's what someone's looking for, so they won't appeal to everyone.
The critical flaw in this article is that it ignored Betteridge's Law of Headlines: any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered "no". You tried to end a headline with a question mark and then answer it "yes", and that just doesn't work.
I have been yearning for another Asherons Call, but one w/ CONSIDERABLE upgraded graphics, abilities, arena's, and some sandbox elements. This might have some of those elements, and the graphics might be marginally better. But it's 2018, and we are literally looking at a game that has shoddier graphics than Asherons Call 2. I support the idea, but that's why I never have played Minecraft. I've lived through the 80s, and unless it's pure nostalgia, I am simply not interested.
"And if you see Begud wandering about as a Cow, don’t milk me."
Lol! So what does this cow skill actually let you do?
Unique set but most npc's won't talk to you in animal form so not so great.
As to graphics,no they don't need to be state of the art but graphics are more than just the high end of texture use it has more to do with the artwork.I mentioned using an example of a castle. The castle doesn't even have a gate, just an open concept with nothing inside,it is just 4 walls with 3 or 4 npc's standing there.
That kind of lazy approach is not even considered Indie,i could do better in a few minutes with no effort at all because it is just 4 walls and nothing more. The world is quite barren with most of the action inside instances. I am not going to get into another very long description, the game just looks amateur and yes graphics does matter,it is like going to watch a movie for entertainment,it has to look good as well as being well acted,as well as having good scripted lines, the ENTIRE package has to be good,at least for me it does maybe not for the other 90% of gamer's who think end game instancing is what a mmorpg is all about.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I think a weekend trial would be a great idea. I would give it a go. But the problem for me is that the market is flooded and I have a rotation of MMO's I play now and while the ideas in the game are interesting to me, the problem for me is when I play a game with older graphics it feels like a step back in my gaming. Perhaps the game is great but at this point I wouldn't spend the money they are asking to find out. I do hope they do well though.
Hopefully they get a solid playerbase that lets them sustain the game because a big problem are people who play the game like an RGP to experience the content and move on.
I don't think this game's target audience is someone who plays "a rotation of MMOs," its more for the purist looking for a more singular, long term experience.
Or as we like to say, "your kind doesn't belong around here."

I love when people make excuses for the graphics by comparing games to the popularity of something on a mobile phone, as if this site is that focus of person. The reality is that just as there are 'many' that may not care about the graphics, there are 'many' that do. I believe a good game should have both good graphics and good gameplay, not one or the other. I realize that what is good to look at is subjective, as I know some love the more Asian influence, while others like me prefer more realism...which is why Witcher 3 is my favorite RPG of all time...and to many others..it was there's too.
As far as an MMO goes, WOW I felt looked great in 2004 and for several years after, LOTRO looked good for many years, AOC looked great, GW2 looked great, I really like the look of Elder Scrolls Online...and personally I feel all these games had many other great attributes which had me playing them for quite some time. There is no way I can play a game that looks like something from the 1990s. I didn't get my GTX 1080ti to look at horrible graphics. If I want to loose myself in something where graphics doesn't matter, I go read a book.
Really interested in this one.
How is the community - helpful etc. and easy access to all other players through chat/voice.
Also guild/kin membership - is this in game and is communication easy?
Never spend money on early access. If they don't have the money to develope the game from the start they are not to be trusted
I, for the most part, agree about early access. but this game was free for the last 2 years to play and try and there is no wipe on full launch, and there is so much content. I think early access isn't a bad idea in this case.
Some things I didnt like about PG: 1) The animal forms are a pain...They arent any fun and dont add to the enjoyment of the game 2) Fishing is terrible...Click on a crab or fish and thats fishing? really? 3) Worst game I ahve ever played for selling things...Instead of just putting one merchant in middle of town and letting you sell everything, you have to run to 20 different vendors trying to sell the specialty that only they will buy. 4) Graphics are subpar no doubt, esp in 2018. 5) Not enough content...The game has been in development for years and it hasnt added much content....It felt like if I played it hardcore I could get about a months worth of content out of it then Id be about done. ^) Overall its just not worth $40.

I think there's room for all kinds of players in the game. You may not be able to go into the toughest areas and dungeons or have super skills, but there is stuff to do and world to exist in no matter how advanced your character is. It is true though that the game isn't fast progression and that playing a little here and there won't progress you far. I've just never felt my character irrelevant or my time poorly spent as a result.
I'm personally loving it.
I played in early Alpha and it has come a looong way.
I still hadn't gotten my key but decided I wanted to play this weekend so ponied up the $30 (I'm sure they can use it) and was actually able to link my account and was happy to find I could access my old character/name which somehow vanished in early alpha.
Played a bit but then decided I needed to go to the tutorial so deleted and remade my old character and I've been having a blast for over 4 hours. Just on the tutorial island.
This is wayyy closer to the type of game I want to play than, most to all mmorpg's out there.
And while aesthetics are very important to me, I sort of adopt a "it's retro" attitude and it's doable.
The community is helpful and I like the figuring things out. I like that areas have very hard mobs with easy mobs. I like the discovery.
For an indy two person dev team I think they've done a good job.

And , wahts great is there is a really great feel to progresion no matter what you are doing ... Speaking of , make sure you all pick up an Anatomy Kit and a Butcher/Skinning knife .. Always Autopsy/ Skin or Butcher then Bury your kills
I'm going to add, I like that there are puzzles around and that it allows you to mark your map (doesn't seem to have map markers other than you marking your map (plus for me) and that, at least on hte starter island, there is a puzzle where you have to write down information.

It's disturbing that the screenshots on the article are of some game that has MUCH better grpx than Project Gorgon. Seems like another paid ad, and deceptive false advertising at that.
The top one at least looks nothing like the eq99 quality graphics I have seen so far both in the game and in youtube vids.
Even Anarchy online looks better than this and it's 18 years old
is u stoupid? i played anarchy back in closed beta and imma tell you, this game aint on that low level gfx, lineage1 for example is like the dinosar of any of the 90° mmos, but guess what wuss? people are still playing it in 2018, i dont think you can even imagine for how many 20+ years it has been on sub and not even f2p. like the newer l2. so before posting crap, you shouldnt just google any old mmos name and come here to post crap about shet you have no idea about.
You dont like something? cool! but dont just come and spit shet without having any knowledge about the games at hand, imm tell you again, you dont like something? move on, go play WoW or tetrix online or hellokitty or something more for your level of gaming.
